Still digging into the material, but I wanted to start a conversation to help me shake off the rust of a love of old-time Ravenloft.
The biggest difference that I am seeing (and please correct me if I am wrong) is that there is no unifying map of the Domains of Dread. The domains are connected via the mists as opposed to physical borders. Gone are the rivalries between (some) neighboring Dark Lords. Gone are the closing of borders via some powerful magical ability such as dozens deep undead legions.
Conceptually, the domains are islands unto themselves connected only by the whims of the mists as well as the abilities of Mistwalkers. The narrative thread runs through the domain’s individual flavor, and has very little (if anything) to do with intra-domain relationships.
There simply is no “map” of Ravenloft.
Is this interpretation correct?
