Hello, I'm a new DM and I'm going to be running my first serious campaign in the next couple of weeks. I really want to give my players the best battle experiences I'm able to! I have battle mats but I can't draw worth **** and I can't afford any 3D stuff, plus I have to host the sessions at another location so it all needs to be easy to transport.
Long story short I want to print out top down assets, like rooftops, floors, and set dressings, as well as entire rooms that I can customize myself. Then paste them onto some cardboard or foam core and have flat set pieces for whenever a battle comes up. But I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how to go about this.
The main info I need:
Where to get all the assets I want to print
Software that could help me build custom top down rooms to print off
What size and resolutions do I need to print at so the assets are always properly sized with a 1" grid in mind
Any and all help would be appreciated. My first campaign with this group (it was just a couple of test sessions to get our feet wet) I didn't have anything but some blank dungeon tiles and I had to draw everything. I don't want my players to suffer anymore visual abuse! :'(

This website has a huge collection of top-down assets. I'm not sure how you would scale them, but they are almost all free or PWYW.
