I am a new DM and i have created a new world full of magic with airship like Final Fantasy type. Just for information the group i have is composed of a gnoll C.N. primal fighter with a polymorphic weapon, a Half-genie that are in reality a true djini who is a warmage, a elephant humanoid battle-medic Large and not medium, A bird man who is a drunk master and finally a barbarian Orc who like to fight. I want to give more utility to the spell book than just holding the mage spell.
An idea i have is the spell books have different color representing the different magic domain ( white for Ice, Black for necrotic, red for Fire etc) And i want to infuse some level of power to the book like the cheaper spell book let you cast at will spell level 1 of the domain of the book even if it is not what you can normally cast. so better spell book would let you cast some amount of spell per day at higher level spells, for example spell book have 4 level; Beginner (At will), intermediate (5/day), advanced (3/day), master (1/day) starting from 200 GP up to 200000 GP the caster need to tune with the spell book to unlock it's hidden ability.
But the thing is i don't really know what kind of spell i should put on the book if it is random when they buy it so each spell book won't have the same spell infuse , or if i do like the black clover anime and the spell book evolve with the owner reverting to it's beginner level when the caster Die or abandon it somewhere.
if someone have some ideas on it i would appreciate it!
P.S. My party think they are Overpower ( In some ways they are ) but if they can have those so do the enemies and i balance it with that! so i don't mind having them powerful spells book
