First off, if you’re currently in a campaign in a world called Aessacia, don’t read any further because otherwise spoilers for the summer campaign (unless you’re Ben I guess).
So I’m going to be trying out an idea I saw in a YouTube video in an upcoming campaign, that idea being to give the party rivals that they can compete with. I want to make these rivals have statblocks that are unique like a character but not annoying to micromanage in combat (they’re going to fight the PCs at least once or twice). I pretty much have these down to stat blocks now besides one of them.
I decided to make one of them something close to an Eldritch Knight, using a double-bladed scimitar (with Revenant Blade for the finesse property), and had the idea to give them combat stances that provide an extra ability/buff depending on the stance. To avoid over complicating things with descriptions of different combat stances and such, I decided a simple way to signal to the PCs which stance was being used was that one was active while the double-bladed scimitar was as normal (Darth Maul-style), and the other activated by detaching it into two scimitars (Asajj Ventress-style).
I had an idea that the Darth Maul stance could have an energy absorption-type effect, where each time she gets hit, she reduces the damage a bit and deals maybe an extra d6 or d8 force damage on her next attack. However, I’m not sure what I should do for her Asajj stance to make it equally powerful, but distinct from, the Maul stance.
Ventress was fast and wild in combat, so i like a flurry of blows, or an extra attack. i feel this would work nicely
you could also let her parry with the duel wielding (if someone hits her she can use her reaction and add her prof bonus to her AC, potentially causing the attack to miss)
Since the Darth Maul stance focuses on defense and dealing extra damage, perhaps the Asajj stance could be more offensive and focused on mobility. Here are some ideas:
Swift Strikes: When in the Asajj stance, the Eldritch Knight gains a bonus to their movement speed and can move through difficult terrain without penalty. Additionally, they gain an extra attack when they move at least 10 feet before making a melee attack.
Shadowstep: While in the Asajj stance, the Eldritch Knight can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space they can see as a bonus action. They can use this ability a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus per long rest.
Dual Fury: When in the Asajj stance, the Eldritch Knight gains the ability to make a second attack with their offhand weapon as a bonus action. Additionally, they gain advantage on attack rolls against any creature that has already been damaged by one of their attacks in the same turn.

Maybe the Asajj stance is similar to a flurry of blows effect to multiple PCs.
