Okay, So basically I started a D&D-like roleplaying game called Monsters & Magic (M&M for short), In it, My friend and I play it and have fun, I’m the DM in this campaign and up until now everything has been going fine, But the problem is that he's a necromancer, Which usually isn't a problem but currently him and his team are going to an island to kill a dragon there for reasons that would take a while to explain, But basically him and his team have water walking boots and are walking to the island but they're going to get attacked by a Kraken, But he's a necromancer that summons skeletons and zombies and they're on water so I’m not sure how he would be able to summon skeletons and zombies, Also skeletons and zombies are almost the only weapons he has so if I make it so he can't summon them on the water then he would be almost useless for that entire battle and I really don't want that, Also his only other weapon is a fire sword and he's fighting a Kraken so his only other weapon is also almost useless, What should I do?
I really like this idea of the pirate ship. The other rout you could go is that when he summons his minions, they could be creatures of the sea. So a long dead octopus or shark could aid him, or you could end up with dead merfolk or tritons (or equivalent) rise from the depths to help him.
Krakens would have some sort of home terrain to me, could be drowned sailors you could summon instead of people he did not eat, or maybe someone still being digested? The abillity to summon the flying dutchman though sounds neat though but would the act of summoning a vessel of undead like this effect future areas where people would not be? Or perhaps does the necromancer summon the undead from a portal?

Send help pleaseThe correct answer in this instance is having his summoning call up an sunken pirate ship full of undead.

Thanks for the ideas, I think I'm going to have some kind of shark or merperson come up.
