Kobolds are pretty versatile if you are looking for a monster race that can show up in a variety of locations, seem both adorable and dangerous, have lots of stat blocks to work with, and make for the occasionally fun NPC.
Really though, it depends on what you have planned for your game.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Giant, extremely huge armies of Giff which can be hired for 1 cp a year make great NPCs, right? (pretty balanced in terms of gameplay too) Giffs also have great flavor and variety. Giff holding gun, Giff holding gun in right hand, Giff holding gun in left hand, Giff holding gun in both hands, Giff holding 2 guns in one hand... the list goes on!!! And from personal experience, I know that players take Giffs very seriously. Like, about as seriously as they do Orc Wizard builds. So, to conclude, you should definitely include Giffs in your campaign.
