((I hope I'm posting in this in the right area, if not I'm really sorry!))
Hey guys,
I'm a fairly new adventurer when it comes to D&D, though I have a fair understanding of rules and gameplay behind it; and by that, I mean I know the skeletal structure, so to speak, of said rules. I'm beginning to structure my own custom campaign (which, I'm fully aware it'll be quite the undertaking), but I'd to draw on some of the amazing and talented Dungeon Masters that have come before me - you guys! I'm hoping that you can look at where I'm trying to steer the story to and potentially add some great ideas of your own!
I'll have an open link here: Birchsong's History ((This is a google drive link to the document))
Birchsongs’ ‘Hunting’ Festival is a stabilizing factor in preventing war between various Kingdoms by providing luxury commodities that sated the rich of each faction. More importantly, it is an issue of unresolved territory dispute, one temporarily solved by giving Kingdom A rights to all hunting lands and giving Kingdom B rights to all mining operations. Should players choose to assist the Druids in stopping ‘The Hunt’ for good, Kingdom A will immediately think this was an inside job set up by Kingdom B and look for retaliation.
Birchsongs’ mines are also being disrupted by some unnatural force. Miners have been dying left and right, leading to many operations closing down. Very few mines have been running in the past month, and with various consequences.
Might consider having Mayor be the ‘tipping point’ for the Furbolg Druids to act. Maybe he ordered the hunt of a forbidden beast sacred to the Furbolgs, or began allowing hunters to seek hunts in the ‘Glavedel Woods’ where they really shouldn’t be.
Town of Birchsong
Current Issues (General Outline)
“The Hunt” is being disrupted by Druids of Oak faction
Negatives
Merchants are suffering
Farmers cannot fill the need for food; “The Hunt” reduced the need for farmers.
Angered hunters/thugs are taking it out on the town in various ways; bullying, in-fighting with other hunters, driving away tourism.
Food shortage has increased thievery.
Kingdom A is beginning to grow suspicious.
Positives of having ‘The Hunt’
Kingdom A receives royalty rights from the event.
Provides Luxury items to the continent
Exotic Weaponry and Armor
Controls the over-growth population of local beasts. Otherwise, they often kill, maim, or ruin land for local citizens/villagers
Part of peace treaty known as the ‘Proper Division Act of Birchsong’
Mining Operations are at a standstill due to unnatural disturbances
Negatives
Workers often found bludgeoned to death by unknown creatures
Workers have vanished at times
Existing workers have sought work elsewhere, leaving only a small group of workers left
Lack of raw materials has left many guards and hunters with broken equipment.
Carriers from various cities are demanding raw material
Some mines have been collapsing large portions of nearby mountains
Positives of having Mining Operations
Kingdom B receives royalty rights from mining operations
Supplies local and continental cities with abundant, raw metals
A backbone to Birchsong’s economy.
Provides work for many families
Events (I'll be going into deep detail on each event in this section and how certain characters can effect the event, stuff like that)
“The Hunt, and the Oak”
Description: ‘The Hunt’ is a tradition where, for the fall season, hunters from all around Sanctuary come to hunt wild and exotic creatures, like stray dragons and wyverns, gryphons alongside the mountain ridges, masterless golems whose bodies are filled with rare, raw material. It is part of a peace deal that gives royalties to Kingdom A. The Druids of Oak, however, find this event to be nothing more than a festival of slaughter, and look to put an end to it through hostile means if necessary.
Main Characters: Elder Maypawl (Furbolg), Druid of Oak Aspen(Furbolg), Druid of Oak Hemlocke(Furbolg), Druid of oak Dendryx (Centuar), Town Mayor Hober Mallow (Human), Merchant Guild Master Shilo Vandrick (Dwarf), Wild Beast Activist Marry (Gnome) and Tyler (Human), Butcher Gromp (Goliath), Tavern Bartender Flug’nuk (Orc), Gravekeeper Malek (Human)
