Or do they also have to have the subclass unlocked via purchase to use it on Beyond at all. Sorry as I'm sure this has been asked before but a brief search didn't yield me a result.
Technically, yes, but they'd have to sign into your account and it would be a pain to deal with. If you have a high enough level subscription, you can share content on Beyond.

This is neither really accurate nor permitted by D&D Beyond rules.
What you can do is create an unassigned character in the campaign using your content and then a player can claim it. They will be able to play with whatever of your content was on the character sheet. But if they want new feats and such that they do not own, then you will have to handle that, which is a bit of a pain.
The subscription is the best way to do this since every player can manage their own character and view all shared content and thus be able to review and theorycraft on their own.
Thanks! So to be clear if I wanted to let the group have access to all subclasses the owner of the digital copy would have to subscribe at the highest tier, make or join a campaign, enable share and then create the classes the other players can use and level them for them if its not a free feat?

Yes, but the person who owns the book doesn't need to be the same person who has the subscription.
If content sharing is enabled in a campaign, everyone in the campaign can read any digital book owned by anyone in the campaign, and use character options from any of those books on characters that are in the campaign. Everything that anyone in the campaign owns is shared with everyone in the campaign.
A campaign only needs one person with a subscription to enable content sharing.
