So im building a table with my friends and i would like your input in the matter. What would you want your gaming table to have. Mind you this one will NOT have TV because we use 3D terrain.
So far it will have: - iron plate in the mid covered with some rubbery material (we use terrain with small magnets) - LED lights behind smoke glass all around the central part to set the mood. - integrated Fog Monster for obviously fog :) - dice trays for each player - power outlets - bottle opener ;) - DM part will have some kind of compartments
You probably have done this already, but check out what is commercially available - not to buy one instead - but to get a list of feature ideas. Matt Colville did a video on his Rathskeller's tablehere.
Things I've seen:
Rail systems to attach player trays around each player. Trays have included:
Dice Trays
Drink holders
Tablet/Phone holders
Recessed region in the center of the table ( craps dice table style, though not as deep ) to hold die rolls, 3D terrain, etc.
Removable/replaceable top to cover the recessed region, so that one can use the table as a normal table, and still leave the game/terrain still set up
Integrated USB charging ports for devices
Integrated Bluetooth speakers
Compartments for all players - not just the DM
The second campaign DM table for Critical Role even has an inset "DM cockpit" which gives the DM 3 sides of compartments and storage. See here.
Easily a project you can pour thousands into, if you want.

I tend to play mostly theatre of the mind so my "must haves" would probably be more about the comfort of the chairs and a clear view of dice rolling space. I also don't have a dedicated space for D&D and my wife would probably kill me if I didn't make the table convertible into a reasonably "normal" looking dining table.
My group and I like to snack and share a verity of snacks.... so having the middles tiered would be sweet. the bottom for snacks to be pushed around to each other and the raised up part above for the map. I also think this would be fun as the bottom section could also be purposeful for being the underground map of whatever map is on the top tier....
You said no TV because you plan to use 3D terrain. I use both and I'm very pleased with the way mixed media works at my table. The image below has Dwarven Forge tiles, Hydrostone tiles, as well as various terrain I picked up at craft stores.
I'm just saying that the two are not mutually exclusive. That's where I'll end this derail.
Drink holders on a separate level of everything else so spills don't get on anything. Cubby space at knee level to store books, notes, minis, or whatever.

So what else would you want to have?
Well, while I have no experience with a physical tabletop, I'll suggest:
A way to slot in map printouts, including dry erase grid.
Cup holders to avoid spilling on maps and character sheets.
A tilting table top for players to put their sheets or tablets on facing them for comfort.
You probably have done this already, but check out what is commercially available - not to buy one instead - but to get a list of feature ideas. Matt Colville did a video on his Rathskeller's table here.

Love all the ideas

Yeah i realize that. And we were really thinking about the way we want to go and in the end decided - no TV. Maybe table version 1.2. will have it ;)
This is our table so far. Now it's time for electricity, lights, cup holder etc.
