I have a new group of players that just chased a corrupt Mayor and his Wererat cronies out of town (killed half of them). The Mayor left behind considerable treasure. The characters were deputized by the King to investigate the corruption.
Does the party get to keep what they find? Or is that handled by the court system of the town and the Kings Guard. Trying to decide how political to make a game with ten eleven year old new players.
They definitely get the treasure. And they may surprise you with what they decide to do with it. Especially if it's not easily transportable. But these kids are used to video games where they do get the loot. So at least give them the opportunity. Also gives you the chance to introduce the fact that D&D does not operate by video game logic.
It's totally up to you. However, if they know about the treasure, they will feel cheated if they don't get it. Even adults will feel cheated if they did all the legwork and bleeding and they don't get a reward.

What you could do, is have the king confiscate the treasure, say 5 magic items and a bunch of gold. The king gives them half of the gold and their choice of 3 magic items. You don't have to give them all of it, but you can give them some.
