Hey guys. In the past few years I've ran Princes of the Apocalypse, Curse of Strahd and Tomb of Annihilation, and one of the things that I loved in all of these campaigns were the maps. The Dessarin Valley, Red Larch, the Plunging Torrents and the Weeping Colossus in PotA, The Wizard of Wines Winery, the Death House, the Amber Temple and Tsolenka Pass in CoS, and almost every single map in ToA were my favorites. I've always loved the colorful and detailed maps and after ToA, I really believed that style would be the normal style going forward, but unfortunately it wasn't. Since WDH, every single battlemap in the official adventures are B/W. I mean, they're ok, I guess, but they're nowhere as good as the ones mentioned above. Why this radical change? I guess the only map I've seen in the last three adventures that I genuinely though was good was the Saltmarsh map. Does anyone know why nearly all of the new maps are B/W? Does it have something to do with money? Or maybe the old artists no longer have the time to work on the maps? Also, what do you think about the newer maps style? Do you enjoy it? Do you prefer the old ones? I really want to hear what you guys think about it.
