I am a new DnD player that needs to learn to be a DM since his friends are interested. I am $ free, so I am making everything custom and learning stuff online through forums. I am still in the process of reading DM's guide and I found out I need a DM screen for everything. So...got any ideas what to put on it?
4) A general map of the world / part of the world the game is set in (even in games where I lean away from using maps for the players)
I've found that these are the things I generally need to have as a reference and anything else that's general game knowledge tends to make it too cluttered. Another thing I would consider that I started doing recently which I stole from Brennan of Dimension 20 fame is keeping a white board of my PC's stats including Max HP, AC and Spell DC, but since these can change you may want to have it on a notecard or something. I DM for a group of people I work with so we get to use a conference room with a whole wall of dry erase paint which both helps me move combat encounters along quickly - you don't realize how much "Does __ hit?" slows down a game until you can stop doing it - and the players have added their own columns to track their crit successes and fails.

Like every single one of my characters, I am a giant lesbian. Unlike every single one of my characters, I am not named after an alcohol.
Active player in the greater Boston area. Possibly interested in local or online games if the group is right.

Help would be appretiated (wink)!
I like to keep in front of me the following:
1) Conditions and their mechanics
2) Travel times
3) Currency Tables
4) A general map of the world / part of the world the game is set in (even in games where I lean away from using maps for the players)
