Yes... I know there have been several attempts to do this already, but for me, there's nothing that gives me the feeling I was looking for...
Introduction
What I love about Bending in Avatar, is the infinite application of the skills, in every single part of your life, which I found Awesome! but when checking other brews, they just add spells to a list so the characters can learn them, which is not quite the "endless possibilities" I was looking... So I decided to create my own version... And I would love to hear your feedback
My take on bending
I'm still working on the details though, but the general take is that using Ki points, the Benders can manipulate elements at "Free Will" doing whatever they want, or think of... to do so I have created a scalation system for them to use without being so broken. You can check the details on the link below but the general idea is that the mass of the element you can manipulate, and the understanding of the element per se grows over time.
Although it is still WIP I would love to hear your feedback to know if I'm moving in the right direction...
I'm not sure if the link will work since I cannot publish it but in case... I paste everything here below...
This is just the Airbender, and I will add the rest using the same principles that I'm Implementing here, in addition to that I will add some extra feats or cantrips related to each element (If I'm able to crack the number of feats I can add per level)
The four elemental bending arts are based on the four classical elements, water, earth, fire, and air, each being manipulated through certain martial art styles that are reminiscent of the qualities of the element itself. Bending is traditionally performed through the motions of one's hands and feet, but certain benders are able to effectively manipulate their element with only minimal movement of their body, such as by using just their head or torso. In even rarer cases, benders are able to perform their bending without the aid of any physical movement at all, by instead using sheer focus and force of will, a skill known as psychic bending.
The Airbender Table
KI, Element Bending (S), Elemental Fist
-
Elemental Bending (M)
-
Elemental Bending (L)
Collective Bending, Elemental Transmutation
Elemental Bending (XL)
More coming soon...
KI
Starting at 1st level, your training allows you to harness the mystic energy of ki. Your access to this energy is represented by a number of ki points. Your monk level determines the number of points you have, as shown in the Ki Points column of the Monk table.
You can spend these points to fuel various ki features.
When you spend a ki point, it is unavailable until you finish a short or long rest, at the end of which you draw all of your expended ki back into yourself. You must spend at least 60 minutes of the rest meditating to regain your ki points.
__________
Element Bending
Air benders are able to manipulate the air at will, creating anything that they could think about, but always following the physical laws and their own power limits. These powers grow at each level.
Depending on the difficulty of the bending intended the amount of Ki needed may change. All spells affecting a foe have the relevant attack/save (DM discretion) - Easy Ki (1), EX. use a blast of air, with no form, just to push something or someone. - Medium Ki (2), EX. Using a wind whip to make a foe trip. - Hard Ki (3), Ex. Using a small mass of air to create a needle that drills a foe ear making it deaf for a couple of rounds. - Epic Ki (4), Ex. Using an XL mass of air with the right force and movement to create a cyclone affecting foes in an area.
Casting time (DM discretion) - Bonus action - 1 Action - Other
Manipulated Mass (by Level) - (Lvl 1) Small (45cm) - (Lvl 3) Medium (1,5m) - (Lvl 5) Large (3m) - (Lvl 7) XL (10m)
Restrictions - Air Benders can only manipulate basic "Air" until they get the Basic Elemental Transmutation feat at lvl 6, which allows them to understand the physical composition of the air, allowing them to manipulate sound - Air benders cannot create air - Air Benders cannot manipulate the atomic composition of the Air until they get the Advance Elemental Transmutation (coming soon) - Air benders cannot manipulate air inside of living creatures until they get the Advance Bending Feat (coming soon)
__________
Elemental Strike
Use the power of the wind to increase the strength of your attacks.
When attacking you may spend 1 Ki point to add 1d6 to your damage rolls. If you miss the damage is not applied, and you still lose the Ki point.
__________
Collective Bending
Benders understand the behavior of their elements and the interactions with other elements, allowing 2 or more benders with "Collective Bender" to combine their skills to create a more powerful effect, of course following the physics laws.
Some Examples:
An Air Bender and a Fire bender can create a fire cyclone of a bigger mass than normal.
A Water Bender and an Earth Bender could combine to bend mod or even clean water.
An Earth Bender and an Air bender could combine to create an air gun of stones
__________
Basic Elemental Transmutation
Benders are starting to understand the composition of their elements and their energy usage to evolve their technics.
To transmute an element you must use 1 Ki point additionally to your bending ability
Basic Transmutations:
Water to Ice
Fire to Lightning
Earth to Metal
Air to Sound
__________
Spirit Connection
Coming Soon...
__________
Advance Elemental Transmutation
Coming Soon...
Spoilers...
Lava Bending, Blood Bending, Combustion Bending, Molecular Air Separation...
