So I just requested this be published, so I'm not sure if this direct link will work or not yet.
I'm seeking feedback on the balance and if you feel it's broken, how to fix it. I realize most backgrounds aren't income sources, my feeling is that the numbers are low enough as to not really affect the game in any way the GM doesn't want to allow. In addition, no income is available unless you return to your inn.
I'm sorry it took me so long to rediscover this thread. I love the concept. I'm glad you addressed the matter of scaling profits at lower levels. Earning an expected profit of 35 gp per month can be quite a lot for commoners, but a rounding error for mid- to high-level characters. The skill choice fits the theme.
One question; how much is the deed for the tavern worth? One could expect a few players could just sell the deed to potentially add quite a lot to their starting resources. My suggestion for players that decide to do this is to assume that each starts out owing an amount of money that they would have borrowed to afford to build/buy the establishment. This would reduce the immediate gain from selling the deed (since a large portion of the proceeds would have to be paid to creditors), and offer a relatively natural way to scale up profits over time, as the player would pay off the debt and keep more of their profits through reduced interest payments.
This could also introduce a plot hook. Selling the deed and wasting the revenues or otherwise failing to pay creditors should end up with a visit from a debt collector/bounty hunter.
The background looked solid, it meets all the requirements needed to be playable.
Something i would do is add more information on the loyal patrons, any special nights think anything from happy hours to a magical bull riding contest to something simple like ring-toss and events connected to it's location. I.e. town / city events, possible participation in markets etc. Also maybe a minor table on the things for sale at the inn including does the inn have it's own line of ale for example.
But like mentioned above this is extra and not needed for completing the background.

Saving it to take some time looking it through. Expect reply within 48 hours.
At first glance i would say nice effort put into this, hate the quickly slapped together home-brew.
