Heya all, I've been toying around with the idea of expanding on Heroic Insporation as a bit of a metacurrency, that also plays with the themes of Fate. Besides the normal uses of Heroic Inspiration, I was thinking theu could also hoard more than one and spend more (probably a limit of PB) for greater effects. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Love this. I have been playing around with other ways to use inspiration as well. Here are a few ideas I have come up with:
Heroic Interpose (Reaction). If an attack hits a creature within 5 feet of you, you can expend a point of Heroic Inspiration as a Reaction to become the target of the attack. Compare the total of the attack roll against your AC. If the attack hits you, roll a d20. On a roll of 19 or 20, you are treated as Resistant to the attack’s damage. On a roll of 1 or 2, you are treated as Vulnerable to the attack’s damage.
Story Inspiration. You can expend a point of Heroic Inspiration to add or modify a small detail to the story (no action required). This detail should not have any immediate impact on game play, but should seek to build upon the story and open up more possibilities. The DM can reject the suggested modification - at which point the point of Heroic Inspiration is note expended - but is encouraged to try and build upon your suggestion.
Example: A group of bandits jumps approaches the party's wagon, seeking to rob them of their valuables. You could not use Story Inspiration to say something like "The bandits had been attacked by a group of wolves earlier and are all Bloodied." This is too big of an impact on game play for the encounter. On the other hand, you could use Story Inspiration to say something like "My character recognizes the Bandit Captain. They had unknowingly shared drinks and stories at the tavern last night." This fleshes out your characters' relationships further. The DM could reward this use of Heroic Inspiration by adjusting the effect of the Influence action on the bandits, but there is not guarantee that the added detail on its own will save the party from a fight.

Also, if you want to build a Fate Point system, I would suggest looking at the "Destiny Point" mechanic from the Star Wars: Forces of Destiny TTRPG system for inspiration. The Tl;Dr is that every day starts with the players having X number of Destiny Points that they can use to impact the narrative or gameplay, but each time they use one it flips to being under the GMs control, giving them more power to twist the story against the players

you could expend multiple uses of it built up for advantage on rolls and the more you expend the longer the effect lasts?
I do like this idea, although I feel Advantage in this day and age is often easily acquired, but I can definitely keep this as an idea. Perhaps a round or so for every 3? 🤔

Ok, I really love this, especially the way you implemented the second feature, this is definitely something I'd love to use! 😊

Ok, I'm also definitely stealing this then! Fits perfectly with the BBEG, who is a ancient Red Dragon who has great powers of Divinity but also at a cost!
