I was allowing some of my players to play homebrew races I made. One of them wanted to play a Half Balor. 1: How could this work in the lore? (I MADE MY OWN SETTING SO THE LORE THING IS JUST SUGGESTIONS FOR HOW THESE COULD COME TO BE). 2: What are some suggestions for how this race could work? Thanks in advance!
When a balor and a humanoid love each other very much... yeah, so the traditional way is probably out. How about the idea of a humanoid's soul, spirit, or life essence being partially extracted, thrown into the Abyss, and combined with a fiend to make something that lands roughly halfway in between? That seems like something straight out of Baphomet's Tower of Science on the 600th layer of the Abyss.
Honestly, that seems like something you could use as a basis for a variant Tiefling. The Hellish Rebuke ability is kind of like a toned down version of the Balor's Fire aura. You would probably have to shift some the ability score improvements and such around, but basically I'd just make them a Winged Tiefling with Hellish Rebuke and a larger size than normal (maybe comparable to a Goliath). I also like the idea of them just outright exploding on death. Hopefully your player would be able to avoid that, but if things go really wrong at least they go out with a bang.

EDIT: I was also thinking of a balrog race.

Baphomet has one of those?
"the old that is strong does not wither"
Can someone make a balanced homebrew race for this?
