Thinking about clerical domains got me started on this, but it could apply to any subclass. Clerical domains in 5e are pretty arbitrary and I’m thinking about doing away with them in my home brew world and just letting players pick a feature from any one domain when they reach the requisite level. I think level 14 has prerequisites, so they’d need to follow that, still.
Worse for some classes than others. If this is a thing you apply across the board than the overall party power-level will take a bit a jump.
Let's see if I can break it...
Barbarian: Bear Totem (Totem), Spirit Shield (Ancestral Guardian), Arcane Rebuke (Wild Soul), Rage Beyond Death (Zealot). While raging, resist all but psychic damage, take damage from others, blast people who hit you with force damage and don't die.
Bard: Only thing I can think of is College of Whispers into Swords for extra psychic damage... meh.
Druid: Moon Druid transitioning to Wildfire at level 10. Trade your elemental forms for fire/healing shenanigans.
Fighter: Go Battle Master, trade in the 'minimum one dice per combat' ability for 18-20 crits from Champion.
I've found most of the sub-classes, cleric domains included, are quite nicely themed. If you want them gone in your game, let us know how it goes.

Would this create any issues, do you think?
