Hello all. <insert vlog jokes here> I made this cool variant that i hope you to check out please. Any feedbacks would help me, plus it may actually publish in the future, hopefully. *coughs*
Idea behind design:
Human race is flexile with Variant extra feat and custom ability score option.
Elf race having adaptive stats, suitable for Dex based character builds, multiple options to choose and plentiful traits.
Half-Elves having a single set of choice that doesn't allow for a full customisation of diverse character concepts.
Half-Elves being kind of out of concept with static attributes and no variation resembling the agile Elf and Variant Human inheritance.
Need for a customisable set that allows players to enjoy Half-Elf heritage and multiple build possibilities of the race.
I started with stripping the multiple races to its pieces evaluating the traits, ability scores and options. I then revised the concepts and designed possible traits.
Thinking about the variable theme i stumbled upon different trait ideas that resembled Human Variant and different Elf and Tiefling races. Trying to dodge the situation where we end up Human Variant with pointy ears, i revised the idea for a tasty arcane flavour.
Different classes having spellcasting features, i revised the base Elf class and subclasses to get the idea of what spellcasting trait is worth.
I revised basic Human and Variant races to get the idea what a bonus Feat is worth.
Revised other races to get the idea of any trait is worth bearing the fact in mind that the traits are subjective parts of the concepts.
I hope to hear from you, the ideas, concerns and points you have, let this thread be a mutual place to build a flavorful Half-Elf variant (vote for Dauntless).
Have a nice day and welcome.
Edit: actually forgot to put down the link. *sighs*
It is an interesting concept. If I understand you will replace the ability score upgrade, which gives you two points of charisma and two other abilities +1 of your choice, with an ability score boost of two abilities of your choice get +1? I figure I must be reading that wrong.
When I am going to make a bard, it will probably be a Half-elf every time, although if I play long enough I will try a human, gnome and halfling once. The extra +2 charisma is a really big deal. My only big wish for this race is that they receive proficiency with the longbow right out of the gate.
Good luck.

Hello, welcome to the thread and thanks for the post!
I see your concerns but i think it has an answer on Half-Elf Variant feature already. Dropping Skill Versatility trait to get Elven Weapon Training trait for example.
However this doesn't mean that this concept spills out important possibilities because of it. So i revised the race to be suitable for multiple classes.
Get hyped, version 1.2!
You get to choose one of the elven heritage trait.

no you read it correctly i tried to make room for added traits and options for the race, as giving edge on stats as well as traits seemed off to me.
concept is revolving around suitable characters for multiple class options as well as survivability. might as well give +1con, hmm...
I try to make the design reasonable even by meticulous DM's, so i thought might as well giving them a 1 stat penalty for all the goodies.
It turned out tho if you choose +1 stat trait from your sub class heritage, you rock +3 increase as with other races.
