Fargoth eases his mount due south, then aims along the line of manticores above and to his left, hoping to hit another one (3) while they were distracted with the hippogriffs and riders straight ahead.
Gwin's bolt streaks through the evening air, narrowly missing its intended target. Fargoth's arrow proves deadly, however. The manticore (3) flaps its wings one last time before entering a death spiral and smashing into the earth very near Patrin.
The manticores to the east remain at nearly the same altitude as they begin to bank slightly to their left. Once again their tails whip toward a target, releasing a volley of spikes at Gwin and Donir...
Manticore 4 tail spike #1 at Gwin: 14 | 11 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 4 tail spike #2 at Gwin: 16 | 5 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 4 tail spike #3 at Gwin: 21 | 5 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 7 tail spike #1 at Gwin: 17 | 7 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 7 tail spike #2 at Gwin: 15 | 9 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 7 tail spike #3 at Gwin: 13 | 4 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 1 tail spike #2 at Donir: 19 | 4 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 1 tail spike #3 at Donir: 21 | 7 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 2 tail spike #1 at Donir: 19 | 4 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 2 tail spike #2 at Donir: 15 | 7 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 2 tail spike #3 at Donir: 13 | 11 piercing damage, if successful
The lone manticore to the west turns to the north, following a flight path that will lead it between Fargoth and Brevig. Fargoth remains confident that no enemy is focused on him yet. Despite the distance between itself and its target, manticore 5 snaps its tail in Brevig's direction, sending three spikes zipping through the air...
Manticore 5 tail spike #1 at Brevig:13 | 5 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 5 tail spike #2 at Brevig:9 | 8 piercing damage, if successful
Manticore 5 tail spike #3 at Brevig:7 | 6 piercing damage, if successful
Patrin may now act, concluding the round. He and his hippogriff are on the ground. After Patrin, all others may act. A few clarifications on the map:
All manticores remain at approximately 120' altitude
Manticores 1 and 7 are wounded; manticore 2 is severely wounded
The grey square = Dinnie's hippogriff; the maroon square = Donir's hippogriff (which will be under DM's control)
Not sure if Donir is hovering or headed south (will adjust as needed)
Gwin is roughly 20' below manticore 1 (sorry, but no mid-air collisions yet)
Patrin staggers off his hippogriff for now, and looking up sends his silver and gold blasts of force flying up to Manticore2, before healing himself further…
’Seriously need to get some better armour…’ he says to himself, spitting out some blood,
Patrinblasts the manticore twice more, and the beast shows clear indications of its grave condition. Its wings flap erratically and large quantities of blood drip from the its mouth and open wounds.
Round 3 concludes
Donir, Fargoth, Gwin, and Brevig may act, in any order.
Of the three tail spikes flung at Brevig, one flies wide, one clangs off of his shield, and one, whose aim was true and flew straight into his face, is stopped as it strikes him by the runes of protection crawling over him, and it disintegrates as it goes, leaving nothing. Brevig flinches, thinking, 'that was closer than I like,' before turning and yelling back to"Dinnie,"Don't just stand out in the open! Take cover! Fargoth sees the one coming toward you!" (Persuasion: 11)
Seeing the guide safely on earth, the paladin pulls up on his reins, and braces as his hippogryph climbs quickly and banks hard to the left. Yelling to his comrades, "Three are breaking around behind us!," he whoops and yells at manticores 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7, trying to a) draw their fire, b) keep himself between No. 2 and Dinnie, and c) close with either No. 2 or No. 1 from their left side. He checks that his wrist is securely within the leather loop at the base of his morning star, then begins to whirl its pointed spheres, testing the weight of his new weapon.
Hippogryph movement: bank hard left, toward 3 o'clock and ascend to 100', closing with No. 2 and No. 1, then bank north (12 o'clock) to engage if they oblige. If he does not reach either during his turn, he readies a morning star attack to use as a reaction:
Readied attack: Morning Star 23 / damage 8
With a hit, Brevig uses a Divine Smite, 2nd Level slot to add additional damage: 19
Brevigdirects his mount upward, allowing him to pass within a few feet of the wounded manticore. With one swing of his morningstar, the paladin smashes the last bit of life out of the creature.
Donir, Fargoth, and Gwin may act, in any order. Manticore 2 has been slain.
(1 and 2 both look to be the same distance away, so ig Donir's goin after 1 now)
Seeing his previous target killed, Donir swerves to the right, angling a lightning powered punch coupled with a thundrous kick at the other closest Manticore.
Attack: 14 Damage: 11
Attack2: 25 Damage: 12
Homunculus Attack: 17 Damage: 6

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Fargoth digs his heels into his hippogriff, and a couple of mighty flaps from its wings accelerate it further south (Dash). The elf tracks the nearest manticore (5) as it passes him to the east, and fires at its undercarriage as he rotates slowly in his saddle.
Seeing that Donir has manticore 1 in his sights, Gwin rears up her hippogriff and turns it east in order to cut off the movement of manticores 4 & 7. Producing the Wand of Magic Missiles she procured in Waterdeep, the cleric executes two rapid wrist flicks and sends 4 darts apiece whistling toward the beasts.
Manticore 4:11 Manticore 7:14
Once she sends her missiles off, Gwin briefly glows with healing magic as she mends some of the wounds opened by the manticore tail spikes.
Donirand his homunculus draw blood three times on their target as it streaks past them, and Fargoth continues to remain hidden but deadly on the eastern fringe of the battle. Yet another of the rogue's arrows penetrates deep into a manticore's torso. Gwin's wand sends a volley of glowing darts through the air; they magically pursue their targets and find them with ease. On the ground, Patrin feels the earth shake beneath his feet as a second manticore crashes nearby.
The loss of two of their herd doesn't yet dissuade the manticores from their attack. The one (#5) struck by Fargoth begins a rapid descent; the halfling Dinnie seems to be its target. The two struck by Gwin's magical darts bank to their left. The first (#4) begins to descend, eyeing Patrin. As it does, it flicks three tail spikes at the warlock...
The westernmost manticore (#6) at last joins the fray. Turning hard to the west, it streaks toward Donirand hurls three tails spikes at the artificer...
In the center of it all, Brevig braces himself for a violent collision with a manticore's teeth and claws. Despite its many wounds--or possibly because of its many wounds--the monster recklessly descends upon the paladin...
Bite attack: 15 | 11 piercing damage, if successful
Claw attack: 22 | 5 piercing damage, if successful
Claw attack: 7 | 6 piercing damage, if successful
Patrin may now act, and thereby conclude round 4. All others may follow. Regarding the updated map:
Black dots indicate the player/hippogriff is on the ground
Manticores 4 and 5 are descending and within 20' of the ground. The others remain at an altitude between 100' and 120'
Manticores 4, 5, and 7 are wounded. Manticore 1 is severely wounded. Manticore 6 is unharmed.
Donir's hippogriff remains at 100' altitude and has veered slightly to the west
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sidestepping one of the incoming spikes unfortunately puts Patrin in the line of fire of two others, causing a grunt of pain. But, seeing Dinnie in imminent danger, he lashes out with another bolt of golden light, before expending the last of his healing energies on his wounds.
Patrin casts Guiding Bolt at manticore5, followed by some further healing.
As the wounded manticore smashes into Brevig, its fangs grasp his weapon arm but are unable to penetrate the adamantine vambrace, and its claws rake across his throat but deflect away as the holy runes of amaunator slide between their razor-sharp tips and his russet brown skin, protecting him from harm. The aasimar regards the evil beast with pity for a brief moment, thinking, ‘born under a dark star and doomed to a short life,’ as he feints weakness then snaps his weapon arm from the creature’s jaws, whipping the morning star’s pointed spheres in a figure eight and driving them in a flash into the creature’s cheek and then into its jaw from the other side. If the manticore dies and begins to fall, Brevig pulls up and right, then swiftly down and left on the reins, and his hippogryph darts right, avoiding the fall of the lifeless manticore, then barrel-rolls up and over its corpse, making one loop then folding its wings and diving toward 12 o’clock to intercept the beasts closing from the east upon Dinnie.
Brevig Action:
Morning star attack on Manticore #1
#1: 29 / 12
#2: 13 / 10
Luck die if either misses: 22 / 14
If the second strike doesn’t kill the manticore, add Divine Smite, 2nd Level for 14 additional damage.
Hippogryph Action: Dash
Dive and move toward 12 o’clock to intercept Manticores #4 and #7

Within moments of each other, Patrinand Brevig eliminate two of the party's enemies. The manticore (5) aiming for Dinnie crashes into the ground and rolls end over end after being struck by Patrin's spell. The manticore (1) that had just clawed at Brevig is sent tumbling to the earth after being smashed in the head by the paladin's morningstar.
Donir, Fargoth, and Gwin may act. Only three enemies remain: manticores 4, 6, and 7
Fargoth banks his mount hard left (heading for 4 o'clock) and drives it onwards, its wings flapping furiously (Dash). He waits for Donir to pass across the easternmost manticore (6) before firing at it.
Donir and his mechanical sidekick deliver three quick blows, causing the initial wounds to the manticore (6). Seconds later, Fargoth finishes the creature by sending an arrow into its throat.
Gwin's action is next. Only manticores 4 and 7 remain; both are wounded.
