Looking at Tempe with concern, Randall asses him for any strange effects from this mausoleum that might be affecting his behavior (Passive Insight 25).
”Tempe, the door is locked—do you have the means of opening it?” asks the priest.

(just player old age lol) "Oh," Tempe raises an eyebrow, but shrugs then searches for anything that might do him harm before he actually uses his tools (Perception 9 lol) then he tries to unlock the door (Thieves Tools Check 22)
There is a click, which for a brief moment you fear might be a trap triggering, but when nothing happens you try the door and are able to open it.
A large oval room lies beyond (sort of football shaped but the ends are not points) with two flat 40 foot walls at each end, where you enter and at the far end. In between the other two walls are curved, and each is lined with a variety of oddly carved statues. Ugly faced and fanged with bat-like wings and claws, they remind you of poorly crafted gargoyles. There are 4 on each side and the length of the hall is 80 feet, the ceiling is 20 feet.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Pepin walks forward looking at the poorly crafted statues
"I think I could have done a better job than this, what kind of room could this be?"

"Maybe I should, once again ritually cast detect magic before we enter," he shakes his head as Pepin enters. "Too late." but he starts ritually casting it anyway. "I wonder what Zendor is doing, about now?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zenodor, who has been absentmindedly following is startled out of his thoughts by Pepin's comment.
"Yes, Detect Magic could be helpful. We could send my familiar out to scout as well, but I do not like the look of those Gargoyles. Do you think they might come alive?"
He sends Irraxan around the room to have a look at anything of interest and in particular the statues. (Irraxan uses his invisibility and tries to be sneaky in case anyone or anything could be paying attention)
The gargoyles appear to be just stone statues but it's hard to tell for sure as for some reason the platforms they stand upon glow faintly with the transmutation magic.

"Why would we want to take them of their platform if they are as stone on there? Shall we investigate this room a bit more first?"

The balls bounce off the stone statue and make the normal plink-plunk sound of metal hitting stone but as they hit the plinth the statue rests upon the blue glow winks out and the statue shrinks down to half it's size in all dimensions, basically the latter effect of an enlarge/reduce spell.

(Having just leveled up Z to 15, he has a new feature to allow him to cast Invisibility without using a spell slot)
Looking at the weird Gargoyles in the ominous room, Z decides that it can't hurt to not be a target. Muttering some arcane words, he turns invisible.

"Looks like in any case we will have to get in closer, even if we do want to pull one off it's plinth. But let me just try one thing before we go in."
Z becomes visible again, and briefly digs around in his pack. After a moment, he pulls out a bag of ball bearings.
'Ah. I thought I had something." He calls back his familiar Irraxan, to whom he hands a few.
He then instructs the familiar to fly over and drop a few balls onto a statue (just one) and a plinth - just to see if anything exciting happens.
When Irraxan flies off (using the familiar's ability to turn itself invisible), Z similarly uses his newly leaned ability to also turn invisible.
The balls bounce off the stone statue and make the normal plink-plunk sound of metal hitting stone but as they hit the plinth the statue rests upon the blue glow winks out and the statue shrinks down to half it's size in all dimensions, basically the latter effect of an enlarge/reduce spell.
