Vernon has been trying to split his attention between the food and the entertainment. Fortunately, he runs out of food before the final duo, so he can focus properly.
In response to Elion's last point, he says, "I can second that! There's too much stuff to do, too many cheeses to sample to let any of us die in the foreseeable future."
Belkas raises his mug and says, "Elion has shown himself to have principles, a love of art, and to mean what he says, all of which are difficult to find in these troubling times. May his soul never turn as dark as his clothing."
Belkas then finishes off his beer.
"Unless anyone has other plans, I was thinking of sleeping early to get a full night's rest before tomorrow's journey."
The entertainment continues late into the evening, but long before it ends, you retire somewhat early as Elion bids you good night. Taking advantage of the comfortable beds upstairs at The Blue Ewe, you get a good night's sleep; no doubt the best night's sleep since this whole adventure began. After all, the ordeal with the goblins and Nightstone is over, and tomorrow you begin a two-day travel to the pastoral farming town of Goldenfields to return Rillix the tressym to Miros Xerbrin and also deliver the news of what happened to his parents.
Sleep comes quickly as soon as your heads hit the pillow, with Rillix curling up on top of the blanket at Arisa's feet, and you all wake the next morning feeling rested and rejuvenated and ready for whatever adventures come next.
Before the party head to bed Osmord patiently hands out 12 gold to everyone including Elion. The remaining three he pockets himself but does so openly.
"These three I will keep, should there be need... I will share it out."
Declining the offer of a bed Osmord will head outside into the night and find a damp alley in which to retreat into his shell.
Belkas thanks Osmord for the coin, and bids everyone good night.
When he reaches his room, he checks that the window is locked, looks under the bed and then pushes it up against the door.
He looks at Crowley, "Could you go out and keep an eye on Osmord for me? Keep out of sight. I think he prefers not to rely on others, but wake me up if he is in any danger."
Belkas then puts his dagger under his pillow and lies down to sleep.
He wakes early in the morning, refreshed and goes down to look for breakfast.
Following Osmord's example, Zyllith evenly spreads out the remains of the gold she had dropped in the middle of their table earlier that evening - after making sure to pay for everyone's meals and lodging plus tips, the remains comes out to 7 gold for everyone. Not including Elion as this gold was found before his appearance.
Afterwards Zyllith takes full advantage of the facilities, getting plenty of sleep and a bath before waking fully rested and refreshed early the next morning.
She takes her time before heading downstairs for some breakfast before they hit the road to Goldenfields.
Vernon will thank Osmord and Zyllith for their contributions. "Thanks to you, I am no longer broke... I wasn't expecting cheese-research to be profitable."
As he sleeps, another dream occurs. Darkness. A flash of light, followed by a clang. Flames, then receding. A hammer, glowing. Then a few repeats.
When he wakes up he will try to find Elion and ask him, "Do you know where I could buy a hammer? Specifically, a war hammer?"
Belkas finishes off his breakfast. To Osmord and Vernon, he says, "I don't need to buy anything, but I am happy to accompany you, watch your backs, and see a little of the city."
Elion meets you in the inn the next morning and answers your questions about finding supplies in the city.
"You are likely to find many smiths and metal shops in the Trades Ward. We walked through it yesterday evening on the way here. In fact, I think we passed one along The High Road not two blocks from here."
Assuming that you follow him after breakfast, the pale skinned elf leads you out of the Blue Ewe and takes you just a short across the street where you make the gentle turn and enter The Dancing Cyclops Quarter, the bustling area where the Waterdeep Way and The High Road meet. It's named as such for the Dancing Cyclops Tavern, which sits right in the middle of the block. There are many people in the streets, and the air is filled with the smells of fresh food and pastries.
The quarter is filled with many merchant shops, taverns, inns, guild halls and homes, and a few businesses, including Turin's Sundries, The Glass Mantle Art Gallery, The Unicorn Inn, The Glass Slipper cobbler, Sugarhill's Sweets and Candies and Fanny's Farm Fresh Foods. Three buildings past the "Street of the Tusks," on the left side, you come to a low building with what looks like a petrified harpy on the roof. A sign on the door reads Riautars Weaponry.
Entering the store, you can see that the place is filled with fine bows and other archery equipment, as well as a variety of secondhand weapons. A tall man with bright red hair greets you and welcomes you to the place where you can find "The Best Bows in the North!"
Arisa joins the group for the shopping excursion, although the only item she is interested in is better armor, and breastplate armor is well above what she can afford.
Zyllith is happy to join the rest of the group as well, though she has no need of any purchases. Still she's more then happy to help bargain a better deal for others if they so choose.
Belkas walks down the street, again awed at the sight, sound, and smell of the masses of people moving around. He sees children playing some game with colored stones, a group of dwarven merchants moving their wares. He catches a glimpse of a pale face looking out from a window. A cold wash of fear runs through his body. It couldn't be Drow in the city. Surely it was just the reflection of the light.
Belkas pulls his hood further over his face and moves closer to his companions.
'See if anyone tries to follow us, Crowley. I am sure I'm just being paranoid, but you know what they say; better safe than sorry as they drag you kicking and screaming down into the Underdark.'
When they reach Riautars Weaponry, Belkas squeezes inside and finds a corner where he can nervously watch the door, not really paying attention to Vernon, Osmord, and Zyllith as they barter with the shopkeeper.
To the man he assumes is Riautar: "If only I were looking for a bow, I would be most favored to be here, but alas, I seek a hammer. I see some promising weapons over there. Perhaps I am favored after all?" He will move over to the secondhand weapons section, looking for A, a warhammer, and B, anything that might indicate finer craftsmanship or other such differentiating features.
The man answers, "I certainly do have some hammers, and indeed some that would be suitable for a man of your esteemed stature."
Vernon does in fact spot a couple of hammers, three or four which appear to be rather utilitarian, but there is one that shows much more fine craftsmanship, with patterns engraved into the metal and also into thin, bronze rings that are set into the edges of the head. The handle is adorned with bands of patterned bronze, and wrapped with red cloth at the base. It looks like a ceremonial hammer, but one that has seen heavy use, and it does show significant wear, however, none that would preclude its worthiness in battle. It's smaller than most dwarven hammers, and would be perfectly sized for a gnome.
"Ah, I see you've got your eye on that one. A particularly good choice! That just came in recently, it was sold to me by someone who is more of a collector than a warrior, but a weapon like that belongs in the hands of someone who will use it. I don't know the history on it, but by the looks, my guess is that it was perhaps crafted for a young dwarf prince. Judging by the condition, I'd say it's probably between fifty and one hundred years old, although the cloth is much newer. The handle has obviously been re-wrapped."
"The price on that one is 20 gold, since it's so much more ornate than the others that I have in the shop right now. Those are priced at 14 gold."
Vernon will glance at Zyllith. The fancy hammer is just outside of his price range, but she might be able to bring it down. But how to get her on it while not messing up the haggling stage?
Catching the glance from Vernon, Zyllith was more then happy to lend her skills to the haggle, but she knew jumping in too quickly would just spoil their chances. She decided this would require a more subtle approach at first, plus it would be much easier to get a better price once everyone had something they might be able to contribute.
"Aye, tha's a mighty fine hammer. Don' gotta be a dwarf ta' see tha'. Mighty fine price ta' go wit' it too. We'd best look 'ere about an' see whot more ye' have ta pile to our purchases."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I do seek a shield, to better protect myself. A simple purchase."
Osmord shuffles round the shop after adding his requirements to the negotiations. He is looking for a nice round shield that he can hold in front of his head when he retreats into his shell. He is also interested in anything that might appeal to his macabre nature.
Looking around the shop, Osmord finds a selection of shields, some metal, some wooden, and some in better condition than others, from finely decorated, to battered and dented, but still usable. Prices vary between 8-12 gp.
