The mess of guards create a small phalanx of spears, five on each ogre, as they press an all out assault on the two creatures. They poke and stab at the ogres with their weapons, although the ogre is quick with his defenses, parrying and knocking many of them aside. They do injure the ogres, but they also further antagonizing them, and making them even more angry and violent. One of the ogres smashes his club into the head of one of the guards, smashing his skull to a bloody pulp.
Vernon joins in with one of the spearmen and succeeds in doing damage with his own hammer attacks. Fortunately, with the 6-1 odds, he escapes being hit this round. Belkas also does damage one of the ogres with his spell attacks, and even Crowley manages to finally land a serious sting on one of them. The ogre takes the sting in stride, but appears to be quite severly affected by the imp's poison. (Rolled a 1 on his CON save!😱)
"Aye, got 'em on tha' ropes now, maties." Zyllith ran forward with everyone, slipping in and targeting the most injured ogre with her rapier before she slipped back out of its range.
---
Rapier Attack: 12+8 = 20 Damage: 8+8 = 16
Using movement + bonus action dash if needed to get into melee with the most injured ogre, then move back out of melee range of it
In another one-two punch, Zyllith bursts forth and quickly drives her rapier into the more injured ogre's back, aiming for a point between the ribs, before yanking it back out and dashing backwards once again, just as Belkas finishes it off with a pair of powerful arcane blasts that steal what little life it had left.
A few feet away, Crowley flies in to sting the last remaining ogre as it's desperately trying to defend itself from the small army of spearmen who continue to antagonize it with their relentless assault. Now fighting with perhaps its last few breaths, the ogre lashes out with pure adrenaline and survival instinct at the group of soldiers, but his attacks prove fruitless against the heavily armed and armored soldiers who stand their ground against the monster.
With an impressive display of arcane power, Arisa’s fire bolt engulfs the ogre in a deadly conflagration. It falls to the ground, dead, bloody and burned, signaling the end of this epic battle. The rest of the goblins have fled.
Arisa says a silent prayer to Mystra and checks the downed guards to see if any can be saved. “Horrible assault.. Let’s hope that is the last of them for today at least. Thank you, Lifferlas for your courage and carrying me in this battle”.
Belkas makes his way through the torn and bloody battlefield until he reaches the rest of the group. "Well fought again. Vernon battling without armor, toe to toe with giants; Arisa riding a tree into battle lancing bolts of light and fire; and Zyllith fearlessly striking mighty blows and disappearing like a shadow, alone behind the lines with a half dozen ogres and dozens of goblins. And the valiant soldiers and citizens of Goldenfields." Belkas cocks his head to the side as if listening to something and then adds, "Let us not forget, of course, Crowley, bravely disarming the goblinlobbers and poisoning the ogres. This is indeed a battle for the bards to sing and the poets to declaim. And talking about songs," Belkas looks around, worried, "Has anyone seen Elion? or Osmord, for that matter?"
I'll head back to the walls and make sure they are alright. There were a lot of projectiles flying around."
"Ach, that way ye' describe it, sounds like ye' want that Elion ta write a gran' ballad! Nea sure I'd call whot I did bloody fearless tha'. Had ta' keep runnin' away like mad just ta' keep me hide intact. An' now I'm bloody tired. Woulda' wish I had long rage magics like ye two had; was impressive display o' power between tha' two of ye'." The tiefling slumped to the ground as she spoke, yet despite her complaints she was smiling at their collective victory.
Now that the fight is over, a sense of relief washes over you as you begin to let your guard down and calm yourselves as your heartbeats return to normal. It's now late morning, and you are all utterly exhausted, having lost most of a night's sleep during this series of battles with some very tough foes. You have all endured injures, some worse than others, and those of you who cast spells have expended a great deal of energy in the process over many hours.
As you look around at fallen bodies of four huge hill giants, six ogres and a few goblins, including those whose bodies were broken on impact after being launched hundreds of feet from these wearable catapults, and also the broken bodies of 10 town guards, the magnitude of your efforts begins to hit you like a ton of bricks, while at the same time, based on the rumors you've heard, this could very well be only the beginning of a long and protracted war with the giants and their monstrous allies.
At any rate, you won this battle, and you begin to hear the cheers of victory from those watching on the wall a few hundred feet away from where you are now standing, and looking back, you're pretty sure you can see Zi Laing, Naxene, Elion and Shalvus waving at you from atop the wall, although they're too far way to hear if they're saying untying.
Most of the guards who are near you remain silent, as they say prayers for their fellow soldiers who fell in the battle, any one of them who could just as easily been them.
I'll assume that you search the bodies of the fallen monsters. The ogres carry nothing, while the giant each have a sack stuffed into their belts that contains a variety of mundane items, including a few life chickens and two pigs, a dented steel shied, the stuffed body of a large raccoon, a bag of dried mushrooms, a length of chain and a few molded loaves of crusty bread.
In addition, between them, you also find three objects that appear to have actual value: A gold ring set with bloodstones, a brass mug with jade inlay and large gold bracelet. You figure that each of these items are worth about 250 gp ea.
Lifferlas accepts Arisa's gratitude and offers his own for all of your help in helping to defeat this invasion.
Arisa will help clean up after the battle, help collect the items for the group, (the chickens and pigs etc can go to the villagers!) and then return to the gate and the village. She seems totally exhausted, but stunned at the group’s success.
Belkas makes his way back to the walls, feeling a little sick now the euphoria of the battle has passed. The base of the wall is littered with the corpses of armored goblins, flung through the air to their deaths. It seems a senseless waste of life. He walks through the gates as people cheer and slap him on his back. He tries to smile at them, all the while looking for Osmord and Elion.
After looting the giants, you all return to the front gate, and are let in to a long round of celebratory victory cheers. Zi Liang, Naxene, Shalvus and Elion greet you with huge smiles of congratulations, but you can tell that, like you, they are all exhausted as well from this very long stretch of events that began sometime in the middle of the night. Inside the wall, you see people starting to clean up the damage that was caused by the goblin projectiles.
Elion tells you that he and Shalvus were up on the wall firing arrows at the giants, until you all began your close melee with them, and that he's indeed working on a poem that will recount your heroic deeds in this epic battle, and of the deaths that both you and the monsters all dealt today. Having been a part of all three battles today, he does make a few comments about the bravery of Vernon, Ogre Slayer, who bravely stands against monsters that tower over him, Zyllith, Shadow of the East, Arisa, Tree Rider and Belkas, Fire Bringer.
He then walks with you back to Miros, who is guarding Lob, your captive hill giant. He offers his congratulations as well, and then inquires about what should be done with the giant. At this point, you don't see Osmord, but there are a lot of people milling about. Perhaps he moved to a watch the battle from a different location.
Upon seeing the people cheering for them, Zyllith wastes little time basking in the congratulations. Perhaps a bit contrary the Elion's moniker, she was more then happy with the attention as she encouraged everyone to cheer and celebrate this hard won victory, recounting tales of everyone's struggles with an appropriate amount of embellishment as one would expect from the pirate kin. Which is not to say she didn't appreciate the bard's efforts and actively encouraged him to write an extravagant poem or song of the morning's events.
When matters eventually settled and the topic of their captured giant came to the fore front, Zyllith gave much consideration before offering her perspective.
"The whole bloody thin' came out a rioght mess. 'Specially for them folk, lost near all their mates in tha' attack and come up wit' nothin' ta' show fer it. Even without us 'ere, this town's a tough nut ta' crack. It does'nae make much sense, 'less something 'r someone what forced 'em ta' attack us. This is nae tha' first giant attack we've seen recently, like as not be tha' last. So we'd do well ta' follow this Lob ta' his kin and figure whot's going on."
Belkas joins up with the others. He listens to Zyllith and says, "I think we are back to where we were when we last had a chance to talk. We could follow Lob back home, or search for advice either from the missing druid or from Waterdeep."
Miros has done a good job to keep Lob out of sight, but now that the distractions of the battle are over, someone notices him and screams "GIANT!"
A couple of the town guards come over, and with spears drawn, demand you to release him into their custody, so that he can face punishment for his crimes upon Goldenfields.
“Hold…This one surrendered to us- and may be able to lead us back to the perpetrators of these attacks. Someone should get him to show them the way” Arisa says.

Vernon is beginning to understand why his training included so much physical exertion for extended periods of time. Attacking the closest ogre:
Warhammer Attack: 8 + 5 = 13; Damage: 6 + 2 = 8.
Warhammer Extra Attack: 13 + 5 = 18; Damage: 2 + 2 = 4.
Arisa shoots a firebolt at the most wounded of the remaining ogres
9To hit.
9 damage.

Zyllith is up.
(When it is his turn)
Belkas calls up two more Eldritch Blasts to attack the ogres (most wounded first). Crowley will dive down and attack with his stinger.

1st: To hit 21, damage 14
2nd: To hit 13, damage 7
Imp:
To hit: 15 (10+5), Piercing damage: 6 (3+3) and poison damage: 10 (or 5 on a successful DC 15 CON saving throw).
