"Thank you!" Nova chimes when the redheaded bartender fills her arms with a bundle of various cheeses. She sits up abruptly and hops off the counter with her signature energy. "Hal, pay the man!" She grins as she goes to strut off. Not looking beyond the cheese, the woman bumps into the Paladin and a chunk falls from the pile. "Oop!" With quick reflexes Nova sticks out a foot and catches it, cradling it on the ankle. "Yoink!" Balancing the bundle in one arm she quickly snatches up the hunk and brings it to her mouth. She bites onto it to hold it and returns her hand to securing the load. With a little dance step around, Nova reaches the door, pulls it open with her foot and saunters on out.
Finally lifting her head from her book, Fae slides coin onto the counter to pay for the rations Nova just walked out with. The redheaded bartender gave a look of relief, she wouldn't have to take it out of her tips. "It appears I could be out for a little while. Depending on how long I'll be, I may not be able to provide morning scones or sit for tea this tenday." The wizard was speaking directly to her. "So please keep an eye on things here for me." She'd bow her head to the bartender and then to Toblen. "Send word should there be any developments." And with that, Fae would look to the group. "We shouldn't let Nova get too far unsupervised."
Don-Jon crosses his arms and grumbles to himself. Going to the smithy would be yet another delay, but begrudgingly he'd have to admit that if these varmints are as terrible as they sound, being best prepared is key. He'd exhale, withholding a huff. "A'ight." He nods. "Le's go before I change my mind."
The group files out of the inn. Fae brings her fingers to her mouth and lets out a sharp whistle. "This way." She calls out
Nova stops in her tracks from across the square. Pivoting in place she peeks out from the hoard of cheese. "I knew that!" She fibs with cheeks full of cheese and scurries to catch up.
Fae leads the group North, just around the corner to a large building. The smithy's comprised of a large open area containing a fully functioning forge and various anvils. The rest of the building is walled off for private living quarters. Stoking the furnace is a muscled male with short black hair, dark eyes and tanned skin covered in soot.
'My dear man! Good day to you. Good day indeed. We' a sweeping arm gesture encompasses the entire party in his speech 'are about to set off on an epic adventure, one filled with dangers and curses and..... well, wererats apparently'. A quirk of the eyebrow and the barest hint of a smile at this last revelation. 'We've been told of your skill and your smithy and come to beseech you and seek the blessing of your hammer and the heat of your forge. My comrade here' the monk gestures to KD 'is a remarkable artisan in their own right, and I believe they have plans, supplies and means, but could use your assistance...' Onu trails off, having opened the door and sweeten the mark, he waits for KD to chime in. Just like the old days, except everything he just said was.... well it was true - and that was a strange thing indeed.
KD runs her eyes all over Maza's workshop. Her eyes dart between Nova and Maza himself, and she seems to think better of sayin several unproductive things. She blinks for several seconds after Onu's skillful social handiwork, and opens her mouth. "Yes, that's about it. You have a very impressive set of tools here. You look like you know how to use them. I've spent some time in smithies, never one long enough to get to know its quirks well but I can work metal. You can call me KD, and this little one here Hal. Onu's right, we're headed to a place where we'll need our weapons silvered."
She pulls out the blue velour pouch and removes the silver beads and ingots, as well as the silver bolt heads. "My large friend here with the shiny armor? He definitely needs some additional shiny to his weapon. I'd like to make up some of these bolts. Anyone else need something silvered?"she says, looking at Onu.
"Might I enlist your skills, and perhaps work a bit myself to reduce the time it takes? Happy to demonstrate my skills however you like. I did make Hal, if that helps..."
Dropping his voice - and the enthusiastic act - Onu replies 'I trust no one else but you with this blade - if you think you can silver it, and if no else needs the silvering, well then, I trust your skill and your judgement'

The large man stands, giving his forehead a dab with a cloth before wiping his hands off with it. With the grand entrance and introduction, Maza dips his head in a simple greeting. He was unable to hide his own quirked brow from Onu's mentions of curses and the wererats.
The blacksmith's expression had fallen thoughtful and serious. Rubbing the stubble on his chin, he'd steal glances at Fae until the artificer would speak up to talk shop. He'd then stride over to KD, giving her a quick once over before taking a good look at Hal. "Fine work Miss KD." His voice was deep, sincere and projected with very little effort. "You may use my workshop to make your bolts." He'd say. "Dexterous fingers are best for intricate work." And with one step Maza puts himself in front of Fae, towering over the wizard. His dark hues stare at her. After a long moment, he then reaches a massive hand out, turning slightly to address the groups knight in shining armour. "May I review your sword, large friend?" His eyes meet Demetrios'.
"Large friend!" Rasmus croaks.
Obviously content with her bundle of cheese, Nova's bright mismatched eyes ping wide and she bobs her brows when KD looks her way. She smiles wide. "Cheese?" She offers to share a bite.
Don Jon finds a wall to lean on, settling in for a bit of a wait. He could be heard making use of his toothpick.

Onu smiles as KD steps up to the blacksmith and smoothly takes over the conversation, quickly moving them from pleasantries to practicalities.
As the artificer and her construct set to work, the monk palms a small piece of charcoal from the pile waiting to feed the forge and wanders off from the group. He finds a quiet place to sit, pulls out a small sketch pad, and begins scribbling, quiet desperation in his body language. Anyone who catches a glance would see images of swirling smoke, clawing hands and the outline of a sword, the bright white of the paper left to cut through the shadow, giving the effect of a blade suffused with light and power.
Demetrios always had a sort of respect for blacksmiths. They didn't have an easy job with the endless hours being in front of a scalding forge, hammering metal to forge armor or weaponry... and it took years to truly master the craft. So when they entered the smithy's, the paladin had looked around the whole area, sort of marveling at workshop in of itself while Onu and KD took the reigns.
Then cognac hues finally fell upon the blacksmith they had been speaking to. Perhaps he had been staring too long at them since seeing the man extend a hand towards him gets the paladin to tilt his head in confusion. What were they here again for? What was he asking him of?
Then it hits him. "O-oh! Right! Right. Here," Flustered at the distraction, Demetrios quickly hands his blade over, glancing to the smith before bowing his head and stepping back, suddenly very interested on the flooring of the workshop.

KD's eyes light up, says a sincere thanks to Maza, and she absolutely shows off Hal. Hal, a bit bashful at being shown off, takes a little while to warm up to Maza, but soon he is nearly inseperable from Maza's enormous calf.
She settles in easily at Maza's side, not taking over, but also not shrinking away or deferring too much.
First, silvering Demetrios' sword. If Maza wanted to that on himself, she was happy to lend a hand when needed. She tried to focus on function, not form, though if the sword could manifest some design, all the better.

Lilly had nothing to hand over for silvering but sincerely hoped she would not need to. Magic was supposed to suffice. At least she thought it would. So, for the moment she just found a relatively safe corner - out of the way for everyone, that was not easy (the smithy turned out to be as busy as a kitchen at lunchtime) but she managed. And now tried to keep Rasmus closed to her too - all that fire around could not be good fo feathers.
Maza accepts Demetrios’ sword with a soft grunt. Then with a jut of his chin, he’d lead the way through the forge and workspace. The man was meticulous, tidying his work area prior to laying out all the tools, equipment and materials required for the jobs. Immediately he’d begin working away, making room for KD to join him.
The world fell away as the pair got to work. Maza was a big man in a big space, but today it was filled with company. Visage with a hard as stone expression it was hard to tell but the blacksmith did enjoy the company.
”May I join you?” Fae had approached Onu. She’d gesture with her journal before taking a seat next to him. The wizard had been quietly hovering for a bit, watching him draw within his sketch book.
Nova spotted the halfling tucked away in a corner, trying to make herself smaller. She’d swallow the mouthful of cheese in her mouth. Mismatched eyes would look down at the mound of dairy in her arms, then back at the halfling. She’d heave it into the closest big bowl she could find, then with a poof! The young woman disappeared.
Prut. Prut. Prrrrrrrrrrr. Lilly would feel something cold nudge against her hand at first. Should she look down, she’d be met with a pair of mismatched eyes looking up at her. A little black and white brindled cat stares back at her with a piece of cheese in its mouth. She’d drop it then help herself onto the halflings lap, kneed with her paws a little prior to curling up into a little ball for a nap.
It’d take about an hour, but they’d succeed in silvering Demetrios’ blade. It’s gained a whole new vibrant shade, giving off a glimmer when shifted in the light. Dabbing sweat from his brow, Maza would test it’s balance and weight of the tended sword. Then bringing both hands to the shaft, he’d test a few strokes. It was one fine job. Satisfied, he’d present it.
”Miss KD.” Maza would turn to the artificer. “Material was wasted in haste, thus a second weapon coating is not possible. And we lost a silver bolt in the process.” He’d pause before placing a hand on her shoulder. “You did a fine job.” The blacksmith would genuinely praise her for her assistance. “The blade is beautiful.” And even though they lost a bolt, they still succeeded to create a couple.
Onu looks up, startled by the wizards quiet approach. Meeting her eyes with his own, a broad smile breaks out across his face ‘Why yes, please grab a patch of ground that suits you! I’m afraid I’m not very good at this - I just, well I just feel like I have to get it out somehow. I’m not even sure what it all means ‘
He gestures to the pages covered in charcoal smudges. Shadows, blades, swirling darkness rolling across a quiet town.
Fae dips, taking a seat next to the monk when he’d flash her the welcoming smile. She’d let his words rest in the air while she’d spent the moment studying his drawings. “You need not be ‘good’…” Purple hues traced the imagery presented. “Simply, just… passionate.” She’d say.
”Is it a recurring vision?” Fae would ask with curiosity. Although not expecting too, she still wondered if there was anything she might recognize.
'hmm...' the monk looked up, having been drawn back to the page and not really expecting a conversation 'oh, I... well yes. I can't seem to get this out of my head. It's...well.. I don't know what it is really' Shaking his head as if to clear a vision he smiles back at the striking wizard 'I'm normally much more eloquent than this. This is rather new for me - the visions, and the blade, the shadows. I have no idea where it came from, but i do know that the blade feels.....like part of me.'
KD nods, eyes passing over the blade with a critical eye. She’s satisfied in the work, and is clearly trying to hide dissatisfaction with the waste of materials for the second. The twirls the new bolts in her fingers and a similar series of expressions passes over her face.
“Thank you, my stupendously tall and extremely well-toned new friend. I am sorry you had to see the waste of silver, this normally doesn’t happen to me. It’s been an honor banging metal with you. Perhaps you’ll let me do it again one day. Sorry Hal. Now we have to depart and fight some rats that turn into people, is it, Don Jon? Or people who turn into rats? Or rat people who want to turn people into rats? Either way they don’t like silver so this will help. And you have to enjoy having a mine back up and running and not at all full of rat people. So wish us luck and don’t trust us if we return and demonstrate a fixation on cheese.” Her eyes dart to Nova-cat and Lilly and the cheese, brows furrow, then shake it off as just another day in Faerun.
She turns the the group and ensures Demetrius has some chances to try out his blade, and shows the bolts off. Fortunately this didn’t take much time. How far to the mine?
Of course the paladin would swiftly follow behind the blacksmith once he took his blade for upgrading. It might not have been the most impressive weapon, but it still held some sentimental value to Demetrios. It was a blade that he could really call his, after all. After hearing of his plans to 'make a name for himself' his brothers gifted it to him, a 'starting out' weapon, they called it, and he cherished it wholeheartedly.
Demetrios would watch Maza and KD work on his blade at a safe distance. He trusted the skill of the pair. He had been witness to the tinkerer's upgrades with Onu's weapon, and Maza was hot a skilled blacksmith. Surely nothing could go wrong!
And while it did seem that there were a few hiccups, the blade still came out well silvered. When he is handed his blade, he moves himself to a relatively open area with no one around and gave it a few good practice swings to test it.
"Still light," He assesses, then brings the blade close to look over its sharpness. "Very sharp..."He gives a nod, then looks to KD and Maza. "Very good work you two. I deeply appreciate both of your efforts on upgrading my blade."He gives a respectful bow to the two.

Fae would offer Onu a reassuring smile. "Perhaps we will find out soon enough." She'd wink.
Having fallen asleep in a chair, arms crossed and head nodding around Don Jon snorts awake when his name would be mentioned. "Yes ma'am!" He blurts before proceeding to smack his lips and widen his eyes.
"Experienced gained is more valuable than materials lost." Maza dips their head to KD. "Been a pleasure." He looks to Demetrios. "You are all welcomed to come to me any time." He'd encourage, his deep voice reverberating. When you were ready to leave the blacksmith would escort you out, wishing you all "Safe travels."

Hal grabs an old metal cup, or cast-off spoon ladle or cracked mold, puts it on his head, then bows his head, doffs his newfound cap and places it over where his heart would be, and the two optometric light nodes blink off, then on, and he replaces his cap back on the bench. He begins to walk out, looks both ways, and grabs the hat from the bench again, and races out the door.

KD's brows crinkle in either confusion or delight at her mechanical primate, her teeth bite down on the inside of her lips to keep herself from saying anything, and she winks at Maza. "I'll certainly be back. Perhaps with a new cup." Turning to the party she says, "well, shall we get going?"

Onu stands and carefully brushes any dirt or debris off his clothes, reaching down once he's settled to offer a hand to Fae.
'Sooner begun, sooner done. How far is the journey my dear man?' the monk addresses his question to Don Jon as the group assembles. Even as he does, the monk starts working out the marching order in his head - how to keep Fae and Don Jon near the center while he and Hal hang back to keep an eye on their rear.
'Perhaps you could help our dear Lily here plot our journey? I'm sure KD and our shining Knight would be willing to lead the way if you point them in the right direction.'
Onu settles his blade carefully inside the walking stick, adding to his disguise as a simple, if well dressed, traveler. He stays near the back of the party, occasionally dropping off into the shadows and brush to watch their backtrail.
Although an obvious attempt at taking a cracked mold for a hat and an umbrella skeleton as a cane, Hal's performance easily made up for it. He'd secure the items and race towards the door with no one but Rasmus chirping at his heels. And when the door opens for their exit, someone would enter.

A group of adventurers fill the blacksmith's workshop which showed promise and opportunity. It also looked like the group was preparing to leave, seeing as a mechanical primate and a raven just left, and they were gathering closer to the exit. Pausing a moment to take in the atmosphere, the air tasted of sweat and smelled of hot cheese. On one end of the shop it showed recent evidence of crafting while the other side looked like a relaxing fondue brunch.
"'Bout three hours on a good day." Don Jon, a tall dark skinned man, grunts when addressed by a half elven monk. "So long we stay on the trail." Don adjusts his hat. "Pfft... Maps..." The man grumbles off to himself.
"It's approximately fifteen miles skirting the hills to the northeast." Fae, a robed woman with raven black hair braided to the side, accepts the monks outstretched hand. With a gentle grip to lift herself from the ground, she also dips her head in thanks. "I'm willing to provide what guidance I can..." Her scarred hand felt warm. "I'd liked to be of assistance... Alleviating any pressure at any point along the way." Violet eyes reflect desperate hope... She to be of help... "If Miss Lilly would like save her focus for a better day, I'm pleased to aid with plotting the journey... or should KD and Demetrios require some direction, I'm willing to share my wisdom..."

He had been witness to the tinkerer's upgrades with Onu's weapon, and Maza was
hota skilled blacksmith.
"Very sharp..." He gives a nod, then looks to KD and Maza. "Very good work you two. I deeply appreciate both of your efforts on upgrading my blade." He gives a respectful bow to the two.
