With the flick of his hand Ressys casts [spell[Produce Flame[/spell] and a tongue of flame appears in his hand. He holds it up and it produces enough light to shed bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. "It isn't much. I can also throw it as an attack but then it goes out and I must relight it. I am willing to carry a torch for the group but I have none of my own."
"Thank you, Ressys, it is much appreciated" Brandon reaches in his pack and passes three torches back to Ressys "Here, you can use these torches as well. They may provide a little more range than your spell"
Qidira smiles at Durnham,"I am willing to take that risk to hold so fine a dagger." Taking the dagger carefully from Durnham and fastening the sheath within easy grasp to her belt. "I will be wary of any symptoms and alert you all should there be any that I am aware of." @DM
Assuming it comes with a sheath.
"I also have torches to spare should any be needed. I see quite well in the dark and only use them rarely, mostly for heat." She pats her pack, "They are within easy grasp should anyone wish to use them to light and throw. I used to use them in the city to scare away the packs of dogs that would roam, but in new company should have little use for them."
"Should anyone wish me to try to scout ahead, I may help there as well. I am good with traps, locks and I can be quite silent once I'm used to my surroundings or follow at the back to watch behind with the torch in the center?"
When they first talked with Tulgi, Kotar didn’t expect they would tell her secret. They intended to save her from the sickness, after all, and crossing paths with a crime family from Shadycreek Run would spell danger in the best of cases. Even him knew that much. Maybe we should have discussed if we should mention it, he thought to himself as Ressys spoke of the Uttolots.
Didn’t take long for the goliath see an opportunity in the exchange. As things stood the group didn’t have much reason to keep together after solving the case of the strange sickness. He would need a new job - something Aldataur could, maybe provide.
“Thank you, Elro.” He answered as they parted ways with the Glassblade and made way to Croaker Cave. Qidira discussed with Durnham about taking the dagger and Brandon suggested that he and the Fighter took the vanguard.
Kotar answered with a nod of his head. Narrow as the cave seemed to be, it would make for great defense to have the shields in the front.
“I don’t know how free Ressys and Durnham need their hands to be, but for me and Brandon it’s one arm in the shield and another with the blade so it would probably be better if you kept with us and used a torch, Qidira.” He said taking his position besides the Warlock and waiting for the others. “We would need light either way so stealth would be hard, and when we find the criminals we should just tell that Tulgi sent us.”
After listening to everyone discuss and propose ideas for entering the cave Durnham speaks up, “Give me the torch. I can cast my spells while holding my staff in one hand and the torch in the other. Kotar and Brandon will have their hands full and that frees up Qidira to be flexible and sneak ahead if needed.” He nods to Ressys, “you and I can provide the light and use our abilities to support from distance.”
He then turns back to the group “Sound like a plan?” He just manages to say all this without his teeth chattering or his voice breaking. He hopes none of the others notice. “It’s good to have you two in front. I’m not used to being so close to danger. I just read about adventures, not partake in them.”
As Ressys produces the magical flame in his hand, you can see that it will help prevent those of you without darkvision from being blind in the cave, although you will still be restricted to a relatively short range of vision.
Then you produce torches and discuss the best way to proceed, deciding that Durnham and Ressys will each take a lit torch, extending the range of your vision.
With Qidira scouting in front (although not too far ahead), followed by Brandon and Kotar, then Ressys and Durnham at the rear, you get ready to move in to Croaker Cave and hopefully follow the deadly trail that has led you here.

Durnham walks up to the mouth of the cave and holds the torch up high in front of him. He takes a few moments to look deep into the cave, past the light and into the dimness that his eyes can pierce.
9 Perception
The torch is too new and too bright against the darkness of the cave. His eyes have yet to adjust so he does not see far into the cave. He then steps to the side so those to travel in front can easily get by. “Well? Get on with it.” He hides his nervousness with a rough tongue.

Qidira shields her eyes slightly to reduce the torch's affect and steps in ahead looking into the darkness just in front of the group creeping slowly near the wall of the cavern entrance.
Brandon waits and watches as Qidira slips silently in the darkness of the cave mouth, then moves to follow a short distance behind her. He will stay far enough back to not disturb her scouting, but close enough to come to her aid if necessary. He moves carefully keeping an eye out for dangers at the edge of the torchlight.
You head into the cave and follow the winding tunnel into the darkness. The torches cast shadows across the icy walls in the deformed, exaggerated shapes of yourselves as you move, fluttering flames dancing to the bounce of your walk and the occasional breeze.
@Qidira:
Staying a short distance (about 30ft) ahead of the group, you strain your eyes and ears for any sign of danger ahead. You reach a chamber, 20-30ft wide and about 30ft long, with the same low ceiling as the rest of the path so far. The entire floor of the chamber is filled with a murky pool and there, in the center and about 15ft in front of you, two sets of eyes atop broad flat heads are poking above the surface of the water. A wide wooden plank lays on the opposite side of the large pool.
Ressys, Durnham, Brandon and Kotar: You remain about 30ft behind Qidira as you move. Every few moments, a loud croaking sounds out from somewhere in the darkness beyond.
@Brandon:
You rolled well for Perception but being a bit further back and relying on torchlight you do not see anything before Qidira does. However, the croaking noises do appear to be coming from nearby and just ahead; she must surely see something by now?
Ressys lets the light in his hand die as he takes one of the torches. Holding it aloft he follows Brandon and Kotar into the cave, Durnham is at his side. He stoops instinctively as he enters but soon realizes that he can stretch to his full height though still having to keep an eye out for any spot that might be lower than normal. His long ears twitch at the sounds of the croaking.
Qidira was the first to enter the cave. Fast and silent, the gnome made the best of her keen eyes and scouted in stealth. Brandon was the next and Kotar followed. Behind still Ressys and Durnham walked with torches, ensuring the darkness was no trouble. The dwarf was the first to speak. With an uncharacteristic roughness he urged the group to move.
The goliath found it strange, so much so that he turned his head to look at the wizard. What he found was the stout man darting his eyes through the place. The had he used to hold his torch was steady, but the other remained closed in a fist. For a moment the Fighter could swear the arcanist was sweating.
“Keep calm, Durnham.” Kotar says turning his eyes to the way in front of them. “In such matters one should always take his time when he can and roughness seldom helps.” His voice was calm and low. As much as he could make it to be. “You’re already strong on your own and now have four siblings in arms.”
And it was not only in the numbers that their group found strength. They were well balanced too, each one with a specialty. Although, if the gods the so-called civilized folk talked so much about were good, then it wouldn’t make a difference. They would inspect the items without having fight. Taking any of items, though, would be another matter entirely, but was a thought he kept to himself.
Qidira slips silently into the darkness ahead of the group for a short distance. Several minutes later she returns as silently as she left moving carefully as not to startle. She whispers to the group as she moves into the middle squinting her eyes adjusting to the change in light. "Just ahead is a chamber, 20-30ft wide and about 30ft long, with the same low ceiling as here. The entire floor of the chamber is filled with a murky pool and there, in the center and about 15ft from the entrance, two sets of eyes atop broad flat heads are poking above the surface of the water. A wide wooden plank lays on the opposite side of the large pool. I don't know if the creatures spotted me or not, as I saw no reaction, but be on your guard."
"It seems the name of the cave is well earned as we have heard the croaking of frogs as we have made our way inside. But how do we cross the water? Will we need to wade across? It would seem to me that Tulgi's sister, or others, are home if they use the plank to cross the water and then pull it across so no one can follow." Ressys whispers to the others.
Durnham looks at Kotar with wide eyes that flash between anger and denial before he lowers them as his face turns red with shame. He takes a deep slow breath before entering into the cave behind Kotar.
As they quietly walk through the cave the croaking begins softly in the distance but soon becomes louder as he follows the group deeper into the cave. The sound begins to irritate him as it comes out of the darkness, repeating over and over. He clenches the torch tightly in his fist and grits his teeth as he continues on.
When Qidira returns and reports on the room ahead, Durnham whispers to her “How heavy did that plank look? I might be able to pull it across with the magic hand, but 30 ft is about the limit I have with it. That doesn’t solve the problem of the creatures in the water either. Was the water shallow where we could walk in it or deep enough we would have to swim?”
He relaxes his grip on the torch and readjusts it. Now that he can do something or at least put his mind to work on a problem his jaw relaxes.

Qidira looks to Durnham, and ponders what she saw while she was in the room, sharing what she was able to determine with him. "The distance would be within your range. If the frogs are able to submerge it might be deep to you or myself, but depending on how big they are, not so much for the others."

Brandon thinks back about the information Qidira shared back in the cabin. “Yes, Ressys, it seems the cave was well named. If I remember correctly, the frogs should not be a problem if we don’t disturb them, but we were warned about one in particular” Brandon thinks back about anything he knows or remembers about Giant Frogs, although he is relatively new to the north.

Durnham nods to Brandon but then freezes as an idea strikes him. He turns towards Ressys. “Winter... you commune with nature don’t you? Do you have any ability to communicate with these creatures? To let them know we mean them no harm?”
