Herrena sheathed her two swords with a flourish before turning around to face the others. Seeing the others busy searching through the hideout, she spent a few minutes idly poking around, seeing if there was anything interesting that caught her fancy. (Investigation: 21).
Eventually growing a bit bored now that the "exciting" part of their adventure seemed to have concluded, she walked up to Erbert and asked him, "What are you writing down? Find anything useful in those notes or are you chronicling our adventures while the memory's still fresh?" In all honesty, while she was "mildly" curious about the Ochori notes he had found, she was much more interested in hearing his rendition of their adventure thus far; she hoped that the gnome was a wizard in not only magic but words and storytelling as well.
Erbert says “I am indeed making a great tale of our adventures, both factual but perhaps with a little artistic flourish! I just sketched the fiendish Ochori blow gunner with his poisonous darts and his sneaky ambush, along with the purple slime. But you cannot see this fully before it is done! Ho ho, please forgive my artistic idiosyncrasies, I try to be meaningful and captivating in both artistry and prose.”
He pauses and says “As to the ledger, here, have a look.” He points out the areas of the planned attacks and reasoning, says that the Zavas will be interested in seeing this as evidence.

A gigantic grin spread across Herrena's face as her suspicions were confirmed. "Well, I am very excited to hear it when it's completed." she began, failing to hold in her excitement. "And if you need someone to bounce some ideas off of, or perhaps turn it into a song, I would be more than happy to assist!" she added before taking a look at the ledger.
"Hmmm, well I guess this confirms for sure that there's more going on here than some lost pumpkins." Then speaking a bit louder so everyone could hear her, Herrena added, "I think we should destroy all of this stuff so that no one else can make more goo-things and head back to the Zavas."

Katrin stood guard, watching the smart people work and talk. It's not that she was dumb, but she was more of a protector and explorer than anything else.
(DDB’s being finicky, or it’s just me not quite managing the system. The items are a Thermal Cube and two Potions of Watchful Rest.)
Herrena takes a moment to scour the remainder of the room and rooms beforehand - coming up with surprisingly little that hasn’t already been found. This is clearly a temporary shelter; definitely for Ochori to spy or watch the Zavas from a close proximity and, well, meddle with their affairs. Herrena does, however, stumble upon a flask lodged in the halfling’s belt - it is a standard, common, Potion of Healing designed for emergencies. The Halfling’s small fingers are wrapped around the flask, clutched in a death grip that takes some hacking to break off.
Thea, on the other hand, prepares her rituals and spells - bending down, she arranges the masks and one by one identifies the lot of them. Combined with the detect magic, Thea feels a strong illusion aura radiate from these masks - no souls are kept within these; they are Soulmasks for certain, though the soul contained has been destroyed. With the time Thea spends studying each mask, she leans closer and sees something…strange. These masks seem molded and carved of wood, yes, but something is pressed in between two layers of wood, the gaps covered by moss and lichen - a closer glance reveals the masks each contain the flayed and dried, now moldy, skin of a humanoid’s face. Combined with the identify, Thea surmises wearing the masks - each designed for one specific purpose - will transform, or a least give the illusion, that the wearer is who is in the mask. This Ochori didn’t just spy; they infiltrated.
“Should we try on these masks to see who they were imitating? I’m a little fearful of them, the other possible effects they may have. How should we keep track of these things? I’ll write down our “loot” in the ledger, so we know who has what. Who wants to hold onto it, alas I am not very strong…”. Erbert walks over and feels the biceps of Herrena and Katrin and marvels at them.

"Personally, I think we should destroy them. If we don't, someone else might get hold of them." Iver stands with his scimitars in his hands, ready to shred the masks to pieces if no one objects.
Thea seems both grim and somewhat appalled at her discovery of the masks contents. Although her hands are still gloved, she almost drops one of the soulmasks while trying to pull her hands away from the materials. She inhales deeply in an attempt to regain her composure. "As far as i can tell, these won't have any additional effects, apart from letting you change faces. That alone is concerning enough though. For now, I believe it would be wrong to destroy them, we were hired to uncover the secret behind the slimes after all. These masks might prove crucial to learn what this ochori was trying to accomplish during his infiltration. I say its best we deliver them to our employer. Something is clearly going on here...and I'm not sure we should be happy that we've been dragged into it. Or rather...stumbled into this whole mess ourselves. Anyways, I suggest we go return to the Inn and report our findings." , she says to noone in particular but rather the whole group. Thea involuntarily wrinkles her nose again while putting down the last mask, then she glances over to the others, waiting for them to voice their oppinion, with an especially appraising look to Ivern with his weapons at the ready. Meanwhile, she rubs her hands together as if trying to clean them, then she begins to reassemble her hair into the complex braid.
Nevara walked over to the masks and let her Mantle of shadows fade away from her body, reaching out a hand to her shoulder to feel the lingering touch of her 'mother'. She focused back towards the present however and began to think, cocking her head to the side, "Does something deserve destruction for simply being? Wouldn't it be better to take these children with us at least? Either to return them home or to ensure that others can know of them."
Katrin smiled softly, watching Erbert touch her arm. "I say do not destroy the masks. Let us take them back with us."she offered, and said no more. She did, however, extend her hand and offer to carry them.
(Herrena will hold into the potion of healing for the time being. And if no one else grabbed the thermal cube and (2) potions of watchful rest, she'll hold on to them too)
Herrena shrugged and replied, "Might as well share all we've found here today. Besides, I heard it's hard to destroy magical stuff anyway, we probably couldn't even if we wanted to." Lazily dusting herself off before crossing her arms behind her head, she turned towards the way they had come and said, "Well I'm all done here. Shall we head back? We should probably keep an eye out for stragglers as well I suppose..." Though by her current demeanor, it probably wasn't going to be her keeping a lookout.
Iver frowns but sheathes his swords back. "Fine then. Let's head back before the sun goes down; I don't think all of you will do very well in the dark." Iver silently watches Nevara. "Children?" That's a strange way to call the masks. On the other hand, Iver had met many strange people in his past, even if most of them are dead now. Maybe everyone is strange in a way. He too is probably strange to some.
"Hurm. My... my curiosity is killing me to put one of those on! But I know that would be foolish. Ok, let's bundle everything up. Who wants these potions? Might prevent someone from sneaking up on us when sleeping. I'm interested in this cube.." He looks at the thermal cube, thinking about how it would be useful for experiments. "Maybe I'll hold onto that."
After everything is gathered, Erbert is ready to head back. He keeps looking at the masks, curious about their nature, looking at them like they are forbidden fruit.

After investigating the strange, luminous cavern, the party eventually decides to pack up what was found and return through the Zavas forest. Now approaching dawn, the party stumbles outside the spore-infested cavern air into the rather pleasant Zavas woods, now that morning has arrived. Light filters from above as the vine-covered forest floor almost seems to recognize your presence. Birds chirp and the rustling of squirrels and other non-threatening beasts scurry around, concealed by the thick vegetation and trees sprawling across the area.
Retracing your steps is quite easy. Strangely enough, the method Zavas farmers farm is quite strange - the Zavas embody the philosophy of letting nature do its work. The areas designated as 'farms' are more like random collections of magically-enhanced growth; whatever grows there is the season's harvest. It's made apparent by the strange, nonsensical arrangement of random pumpkin vines and apple trees scattered amidst the area. It takes a Zavas to know how to navigate and make the most of this place.
Pressing on, you approach the gates and roped bridges that lead upwards and onwards to the platformed Zavas tribe above - the Imperium's huts and more traditional buildings clumping along the ground beneath. The morning activities of the tribe have already begun. Shopsellers are propping up vined stalls in a marketplace, and taskgoers traverse the canopy, carrying messages and all sorts of products. You pass by what seems to be a uniquely constructed, flat bazaar of items and products - an extremely large, tautly-woven mesh of dried vines and reeds is strung across a circlet of trees, and this seems to be where the bartering of goods is done. Piled in several merchant stalls are colorful fruits, vegetables, and spices, with an interesting mix of common and exotic products alike - the specialized techniques of druids and farmers of this tribe have allowed flora of any climate to thrive in this town. However, one thing catches your eye - what seems to be a squadron of a half-dozen Imperial troops enters the bouncy arrangement, their weight warping the area on which they stand slightly. Unaccustomed to the terrain, they slowly make their way around the stalls, speaking with each merchant that has goods for sale. Some seem to argue, while others seem to comply. What makes you turn your heads is a particularly loud bout of shouting - a ruddy, flustered, elven merchant is arguing with two of the Imperial soldiers. Onlookers begin to gather as the spectacle seems to gather attention, and the handful of Imperial soldiers begin to nervously look at the accumulating crowd, hands slowly being placed to their weapons. The tensions between the Zavas citizens and the Imperium's troops sent to occupy the town has never been clearer.
Is there anything the party would like to do? Returning to the Inn to collect your reward and converse with Flinn is a possibility.
The Zavas woods. Katrin always enjoyed exploring it, being a part of it. However, this was a new notion, one she learned since living here. She wouldn't remember, but when she was an ice cavern explorer, that she wouldn't remember at all. In fact, anything before about a few short years ago she had no memories of.
Except what the Zavas told her when they found her. She watched the farmers and smiled softly as the group past. It was these people who took care of her, so they say. They told her that she was a victim of amnesia, and this is where they found here, so they say. They did, as well, treat her kindly.
The only thing that didn't treat her kindly was the presence she felt inside her.
