"We should go before more guards come," Kel offers, also pushing to their feet and looking ahead. "I have some magic, when we get out of the cell," they add, shrugging, "but getting our things back would be better. I can only breathe lightening once before I have to rest. I can swing a hammer a lot." They turn to look at the other prisoners, tilting their head. "You are coming, yes?"
"I have my magic to defend myself with in case things get ugly but hopefully we won't have to get to physical I had a few daggers and a sickle but they got taken away when they took our stuff." Says Cadeyrn.
Just as you start to enact your plan of escape, hearing the guard changing outside and Shoor distracting the couple of new guards, Kel and the drow hear it first...a drone sound, a piercing hum, coming from outside Velkynvelve. A moment or two later, even in the dim light you all can make out the outlines of dozens of demons flying through the air, both chasme and vrock going at each other with ferocity. The outpost is thrown instantly into chaos, as all the guards hurry to find their weapons and arrange a defense of the area. Shouting and rattling of bars and metals sound in the distance, mixed with screaming both from drow and the encroaching demons.
"What in the nine hells is going on out there!?" Ront says out loud. "Well, we wanted a distraction! Let's go!" Ront opens the gate and takes two steps onto the walkway when a bloodied demon comes crashing by, knocking Ront onto the webs below before the demon shakes itself off and leaps back into the air.
"That's exactly what Ront just said." Says Crowfell to Caderyn with a shake of his head, starting to spring out the door. Only to see Ront get knocked off. Halting. On the one hand. Orc. On the other. He's a living being, too. Bah. Damn moral code. "We got to help him!"
Kel looks incredulous at the suggestion, though it is somewhat hard to read on their ridged, draconic face. "Help him? We can't even help ourselves right now," they argue, gesturing to the webs. "There are spiders down there, and we've nothing to fight with. Best we get our gear before we try helping anyone." They feel a little bad for Ront, but not bad enough to risk the whole group trying to save him.
[It is already well known that magic works outside the cell and other confined locations. But in the open it should work fine...IF you have your spellcasting focus or other components]
There's a moment of silence. Then this purple eldritch ball gets summoned into Crowfell's hands. Glowing ominously. "We're not defenseless." Asserts the half-drow. The ball gets dismissed.
Finn is glad to see that he was wrong about the shackles and says, "then let the magic users defend the non magic users until we can get our gear!" He looks about for rope or something to throw to Ront so he can be hauled back up to the group

[As you peer over the edge into the dark, you can just make out Ront's form being dragged away by two giant spiders, his body already partially webbed together]

"How do you know that you're be able to use magic with the shackles still on?" Finn asks. "I agree that we need to get our equipment back first, tho."

Crowfell puts the theory that they can't use magic with those shackles on to the test. Am I able to summon an eldritch blast, @DM
(Are you still inside the cell?)
(no)
[What are you attacking?]
(not attacking anything. Just seeing if I could use magic)
