Rohuzar has to cut the trap free of its anchor line. The rest of the trap weighs only about 8 lbs and he is able to set it in the boat and carefully climb back in. As Leelan moves back to his seat at the rear, he notices a tooth sticking out of the wood frame of the trap.
6
He's never seen anything quite like it. It is the tooth of a carnivore, and probably an aquatic one. It is small... if this came from a humanoid, it likely wouldn't be larger than a halflings tooth. Other than that he cannot draw any other conclusions.

"Sharp toothed little thing we´re looking for it seems. Perhaps we want to save that tooth for Lady Shelley?" Aubrey comments before pushing pole boat b further out towards the next buoy. Knowledge to determine previous owner of tooth:17
(OOC: Could Aubrey use telekinesis instead to gently push the boat along? It wouldn´t need much force right?)
Leelan pulls the tooth out of the wooden frame and examines it. He does make quick notes of it in his sheets of paper before pocketing it.
"As interesting a find as this is, I doubt it could prove the existence the sea folk we seek. For all we know, this could be a large carnivorous fish. But, there still more to find. Let us press on!"
Aubrey looks across at the other boat and the small tooth Leelan is holding up. At the distance and at the edge of his mask's glow, it is difficult to make out much detail. From what he can see it doesn't really look much like a fish tooth. But then again, Leelan is the monster expert.
It sounds like the group is ready to push on to the vicinity of the next trap.
(Aubrey, the text for the telekinetic feat says "shove" and also says the target is a creature. While I'm inclined to allow the boat to be a target (why would you be able to shove a person but not an object?), the "shove" seems problematic. Rather than a slow and steady push... that seems to imply periodic shoves of the boat to make it move... which I think would be both less stable and more uncomfortable for the passengers. So I think that is plausible... but impractical.)

Aubrey considers sharing his thoughts on the tooth but decides that others like Leelan would know more about this than he could. Instead he moves the pole boat on to the next buoy.
(OOC: I was actually thinking about the mage hand without the hand. A force that could lift 5 lbs could arguably move a pole boat, if only slowly.)
The two pole boats continue further out into the darkness underneath the docks. Rohuzar continues to pole his boat, while Aubrey experiments with magical means of locomotion, eventually settling on mage hand to impel the boat and free up both his hands. They travel a bit slower than Rohuzar's manual powered boat but not enough that they fall considerably behind.
The party is alert for danger or signs of the merfolk, but no one notices anything out of the ordinary, and soon the second bouy is in sight. Unlike the destroyed trap, this one is empty and unmolested.
Just as the boats come together to discuss the next move... there is a large splash somewhere off to your right/ to the east. It doesn't sound very far but it echoes a bit under the docks and nothing can be seen within the range of anyone's darkvision. It was quite a loud sound, giving the impression of something like a large rock or a cart falling into the water.

Grugga calls out to the wharf above, "Hey, we've got boats down here!" then he pauses in silence before murmuring to his boat "I wonder if that was one of them..." Louder, he says to both boats, "Should we wait here by the trap and hope it comes to us?"
As Rohuzar swims off to investigate the cause of the splash Aubrey at first hesitates for a moment as the group lost contact with their leader. "Be ready to go down and help him and try to cover him from the boats for now. Let´s follow him Leelan." Aubreys says to the others, trying to coordinate their actions, and follows Rohuzar, standing up and using the pole if necessary to keep up. Perception to notice cause of splash:24

Aubrey cannot see where the splash came from, but based on the sound he thinks the origin point is about 100 feet to your east and perhaps just a little bit north.
Rohuzar is out in front, wading through the hip-deep water. About 15 feet behind is the boat carrying Aubrey, Grugga and Eskil. Another 15 feet back (due to lost time transfering the poles and getting back underway after Rohuzar dropped out) is the boat with Guilim and Leelan. Aubrey, you can just make out Rohuzar's silhouette at the edge of your vision and are able to provide some basic directions for him based on where you think the should came from. After about 45 seconds....
Rohuzar, suddenly you are standing in moonlight. The docks open up above you and you can see you have come upon one of the canals that bisect the docks. You also encounter some aquatic vegetation, as this is one of the few places here that gets any regular sunlight. The moon is high, full and almost directly overhead. The wind is much louder not, though down here is does little more than ripple the surface. You recall Shaemus' warning that the canals are dredged deeper, so you stop momentarily at what you suspect might be the drop off. The canal is about 20 feet wide. It comes to an end perhaps 40 feet to your feet (south) and continues on, as far as you can tell, all the way to the open lake on your left (north). Looking around, there is nothing that you can see on the surface. The others are 6 and 12 seconds behind you, respectively.
The boaters all see the outline of Rohuzar in front of you as he steps out into moonlight.

"Rohuzar, everything alright?" Aubrey says loud enough for the orc to hear him. "Any clue to what fell into the water?" He adds as he poles the boat up to Rohuzars position, but being careful to not get out from under the dock with risk of getting something thrown over their pole boat. Another perception if needed, still wary of dangers:13
Aubrey's boat catches up with Rohuzar at the side of the canal. Alert for danger, Aubrey cannot see anything alarming. Nothing but the wind disturbs the surface of the water and there are no spiders or other threats hanging above. The sound of the wind does much to obscure other sounds from above, but Aubrey cannot hear anyone above them, either. Far down the canal toward the lake (100yds+) there is the glow of torchlights up on the topside but that is too far away to have been the source.
As Aubrey and the others survey the scene from the boats, Rohuzar submerges to see what he can see with the mask. True to advertisement, the mask keeps the water out of his eyes allowing him to see clearly under the water. And the air tube allows him to breath comfortably provided he doesn't go much further down than just below the surface.
Rohuzar
Weeds and aquatic plants are thick here. From what you can see, it looks like you are standing right on the edge of the canal dredging. The bottom drops off before you from about 2 1/2 feet to a depth of... maybe 6 or 7 feet? The bottom is covered in a few feet of weeds so it is hard to say for sure. Almost directly in front of you, on the far side of the canal bottom (15 feet away and 6-7 feet down) there is something dark in the weeds on the bottom. It is vaguely humanoid in shape. It is moving and churning up the sandy bottom. You catch a glimpse of a heavy chain through the murk.
