"We used a word puzzle to open the portal here, perhaps the letters on the book spines make up a new keyword," Syd muses aloud. He then belches thunderously, scratches himself, and searches the room for exits, egresses, trapdoors, sliding bookshelves, portals hidden in magical mirrors, dumbwaiters, smartwaiters and laundry chutes. Also clues.
The newly anointed mimic chortles disarmingly and says, "Fed... happy... friends!", then resumes eating. Cumin tries to look on the bright side, "I guess we'll have a guest to cook for even after you've left. And it looks like this one could eat all day!'
Coriander giggles again and answers Ollezall's pointed question, "Not pseudodragons. I'd say they're worse than that, although they certainly can be more amusing. Depends on what you're in the mood for, I guess. I'm sure they'll be insufferable once they get older!"Ollezall can tell that Coriander is being genuine in his description. He seems both annoyed and amused by these dragons, while not feeling terribly threatened by them.
With the majority of the party in agreement that the books hold the key to their escape and that the library is a fine place to search for more, and Syd utterly bewildered in his thorough examination of the room for clues, Cumin produces a map of the middle level of the mansion, where they currently are located. Cumin points to the room to the east with the large table. "This is the dining room, where we are now", he pronounces very seriously. "If it is the library you seek, you must head west." He then points to the westernmost room, obviously a library with its bookshelves and chairs. Cerlinde's investigation reveals that the silverware is of fine quality and probably worth roughly 20gp. She can't fathom how heartbroken the homunculi would be to lose it, though.
(For clarification, the room directly across from the mansion's foyer is the study, w/the hidden staircase to the lower level on its north wall, then to the east are the kitchen and dining room. To the north of the kitchen is the pantry, which Mohdrak has explored.)
(There is still the unresolved matter of Dyumi's radically changed appearance.)
(@Potaido_, sorry to hear you've been ill, hope you're doing better!)
(Cerlinde doesn’t want to take the silverware, and so she doesn’t even mention it’s value to the others. She’s thinking of other ideas for this place- which involve keeping it furnished). She leads the way to the library. “Watch out everyone- this place has proven to be more than a little dangerous. Let’s visit the library first, then explore the other rooms on this level” she says. She’s thrilled by the map, (although quietly wanting to copy it in her own, much more artistic style.).
"Know of any little monsters that grow into great Wyrms as they get older/are allowed to survive for long enough? I actually hope there are real dragons here instead of the nasty spiteful monsters we faced in the wilderness..."
To the general group:
"I am looking forward to seeing what else we can discover in this mansion. "
"Dyumi, you look different than you did an hour ago; is my mind playing tricks, or is something going on? I can work you up a tincture of herbs if you are feeling ill?"
“Yes- all dragons start as hatchlings.. but even hatchling dragons can be dangerous. Pseudodragons can be mischievous but they aren’t usually evil, from what I have read..” Cerlinde replies

Dyumi rearranges his hood so it hangs even further over his face, covering it completely.
"Ill? no, no, I feel quite alright, really."

Quietly "You know I can see in the dark right? The shadow of your hood only conceals the colour of your skin. But I won't pry; if you do not wish to tell us what's going on, that's your business"
Dyumi will walk along to the library, fidgeting with his axes.

'Perhaps he's insinuating the cats are dragons.' Mohdrak glared over the rim of his wine topped goblet. He was still sore about having tufts of his hair ripped out when he seperated from his former now mimic chair. It was an unsightly sight but covering up those calves would be a sin in itself.
The others stood up intent on venturing to the library. 'Guess dessert will have to wait.'
The minotaur stood up as well and slid his shield on his left arm. He was not going to be caught unprepared again. 'Cumin, Coriander: would you mind cleaning up a bit? Once we're done with this little venture I'll come back to help clean up the kitchen. Shouldn't be long.'
A shame though: he was looking forward to some sweet fruit. But he was hired to do a job and if there is anything that defined Mohdrak, aside from a toned physique, majestic horns and humbleness, it was professionalism. Professionals had standards after all.
The party heads west from the dining room back past the kitchen, staircase, study, and a closed room containing who knows what, and then open the final door on the right. Peering into the room, they see all the elements of a scholar's library. Tall shelves filled with books line the walls of this room. Two more shelves run through the middle of it with a ten-foot-wide aisle between them. Several high stacks of books are in random piles. Small reading desks with cozy scarlet chairs sit in the corners.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cerlinde is excited- so many books! She wants to rush right in but she decides to do a careful scan of the room first.. investigation- assuming someone helps:
As Cerlinde makes her way through the room, carefully examining the exquisite collection, she finds numerous texts covering Fistandia’s favorite subjects: arcana, natural science, religion, astrology, and planar travel, as well as volumes of poetry, mythology, and folk tales. Cerlinde also finds that while reviewing the interior side of the left freestanding bookcase, she notices another book just like the ones they've previously discovered, this time with a letter 'R' printed on the spine.
More importantly perhaps, Cerlinde also notices that the bookcase is tipping toward her. Please make a Dexterity saving throw!
For anyone else that believes their PC would be in between the interior bookcases, assisting Cerlinde, please also make Dex saves. Honour system, thanks! ;-)
Ollezall will be standing in the centre of the room looking at the books with his sharp celestial gaze. He would see with his passive perception the bookcase tipping and yell out "watch out!" While pointing at the shelf.
Ollezall will be looking (prior to the incident) for any books and with single lettered spines. Perception 12
Post incident, Ollezall will proffer spells and healing potions (I have 3, assuming Syd took the other) to any injured.
Syd would probably be aiding Cerlinde while clandestinely searching for more smutty novels. If he notices the bookcase tipping he will attempt to step in front of Cerlinde and block it. (Will roll DEX, but wonder if he might also roll STR to be able to catch the bookcase or prevent it from tipping all the way?)
Passive Perception (to notice the bookcase starting to topple) 13
DEX save: 11
STR save: 22 (his Athletics modifier is the same as his saving throw, if that is more appropriate)
(Based on the how this is written in the module, we'll do it this way . . .)
Cerlinde, Ollezall, and Syd all were in the path of the falling bookcase, momentarily knocked prone and restrained, but with Ollezall's shout and Syd's raw power, they're able to quickly extricate themselves from the heap. As they rise, the party is confronted by the culprit in this calamity, which looks like this (hooray 'monImg' tag):
This swarm advances quickly to engulf Cerlinde, attempting to batter her with its many whirling books!
(I'm going to give the monster first swing since you're all getting out of the pile, but not grant advantage for surprise, since you're all probably looking for a reason that the bookcase fell over. Does that sound reasonable?)
(Since Ollezall didn't roll a Dex save for evading the bookcase, I'll say that he was closest to the 'R' book and can give me a Sleight of Hand check instead to see if he grabbed the book before the bookcase fell. You'll still be able to retrieve if you fail, this is just for fun.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Syd helps pull Cerlinde and Ollezall from the pile, and then removes his greatsword from the sheath on his back. He is a little uncertain what is going on, but it seems clear that the books are attacking Cerlinde, so he will attempt to slash through them, while carefully avoiding the elven wizard.
Also clues.
Investigation 2
(Hope feeling better potaido!)
Cerlinde also investigates around the dining room 12. Then she says “which way to the library?”
The newly anointed mimic chortles disarmingly and says, "Fed... happy... friends!", then resumes eating. Cumin tries to look on the bright side, "I guess we'll have a guest to cook for even after you've left. And it looks like this one could eat all day!'
