Notes: Initiative order in spoiler. On the Pthumerian Line (Bloodborne OST) is the recommended listening for the post. The spacing on this post was a piece of work.
Spectral Figure I
Amadi
Sweeps
Spectral Figure II
Crow
Sunny
Gabriel
Sylvio
Spectral Figure III
Bertha
During the entire conversation, Amadi, you had kept your eyes in Bertha. Trying to head her, see if she was lying, but never lowering your guard. You gather she was speaking truthfully and couldn’t understand what was happening when the windows suddenly shut and when you looked in the direction of Jacob’s… For Gond’s holy creations, what was happening to that child’s body? Before you could even think of any answer there was this fetid smell, putrid, vile, assaulting your nostrils and then you were in a different place.
Your were teleported after that strange symbol appeared, as if magic was triggered by it. Sunny, you didn’t recognize the symbol, but judging by it’s effect you are sure it was a Glyph of Warding and contained some kind of dimensional spellcraft. The trigger most likely was the unveil of the presence of whatever afflicted Jacob. You didn’t have time to think on what could this affliction be, for wailing spirits enter the room and with them a monstruous crow. His eyes were white and lifeless, his feathers so unfathomably black that seemed to drink the flickering light of the flames. That was no beast and you knew it for sure, more than anyone else. As you looked at it or rather it looked at you, you felt this feverish sensation burning through every fiber of your body and then a strong pain assaulted your gut. You regurgitate a little bit of blood.
At the same time Gabriel, you are assaulted by a myriad of visions. People being hanged, decapitated, backstabbed, beaten to death. You head hurts and an uncontrollable fury assaults your mind. You know this was caused by that thing on the boy’s chest, you know it is something terrible. You need to fight it, repel it and for a moment it seems like you can’t, but then you hold on your faith. Your guardian and Lathander himself would protect you in this moment of need and they do. Invigorated by divine energy you push the cacophony of images away. With your thoughts in order, you remember the circumstances of the deaths and something you once heard about the number four. On the eastern continent of Kara-Tur, in the lands of Wa and Kozakura, the number four is avoided in any sort of ritual, specially the religious kind. Turns out that one of the ways to pronounce ‘four’ is homonym to the word for ‘death’ and the use of the number is evocative of curses. A terrible omen. Maybe someone in the harbor could know more details.
The first of the three spectral figures then moves its head in the direction of Bertha, for the woman was the only one unarmed and visibly more shaken than any other in the room. The monster then opens its mouth and disjointed whips echoing once more. Just like happened in the smoke. Curses and terrified pleas fill the air, becoming louder and louder.
Notes
At the top of the post is our monstrous crow and Bertha will make a Wisdom save throw. Oh, had forgot to roll the damage Sunny took (corrected that).
Bertha's save: 16
Damage on Sunny: 8
@Jynne, Sunny took 5 necrotic damage and her attack will happen on her initiative count. This turn she wouldn't have noticed that something happened to her until receiving this first damage so no Absorb Element. She can use it from the next turn onward.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sweeps’ eyes widen in surprise and a little bit of fear as the room swirls full of the black smoke and he covers his ears with his hands as the wails and screams of torment get louder and louder, almost more than he can stand. The smell of death assaults his nostrils, overwhelming even the stench of mud, sweat, and manure that he carries with him, as the smoke clears and he finds himself in an unfamiliar place.
Disoriented, senses assaulted by the stench of decay and the screams of despair, Sweeps loses control of himself. Still covering his ears, his eyes flash from blue to black, and he screams in pure anger, almost drowning out the spectral figures' own screams of torment. Wild Surge 5
As he enters hs rage, bright, multi-colored, protective lights swirl around him, almost as if they are trying to combat the darkness. (OOC: Sweeps and anyone within 10 feet, currently Gabriel and Sylvio, has +1 to AC)
He steps forward in between two of the spectral figures and attacks the one to his north with his maul, swinging twice in a wide overhand motion
As Amadi took in the scene he was about to draw his hammer from his belt. Instead he reaches onto his back and takes his shield off and taking the time he straps it to his left arm. If you notice his shield by any chance you see the symbol of Gond on it.
After strapping his shield to his arm he moves northwest to flank the spectral creature that is there. As he does this he grows in size, him and all of his gear, till he becomes large in size. He then draws his war hammer, the runes shining as he prepares for battle.
That flanking should grant Advantage to Sunny's attacks. But I don't normally use flanking so I can't say for sure.
Bonus Action - Giant's Might
As a bonus action, you magically gain the following benefits, which last for 1 minute:
- If you are smaller than Large, you become Large, along with anything you are wearing. If you lack the room to become Large, your size doesn’t change.
- You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
- Once on each of your turns, one of your attacks with a weapon or an unarmed strike can deal an extra 1d6 damage to a target on a hit.
@Paladin: I employ the flanking rule so you can roll Amadi's attack with advantage. Remember to also roll both your normal damage and your extra d6.
My action was donning his shield unless you rule he had it already and can take another action instead. I presumed he didn't have his shield in hand when they were investigating.
Here is an attack roll in case to allow it to help move things along.
Notes: So, the dice was changing every time I edited the post to add some text. For fairness sake I decided to reroll everything (rolls in the following post).
Spectral Figure I
Amadi
Sweeps
Spectral Figure II
Crow
Sunny
Gabriel
Sylvio
Spectral Figure III
Bertha
As the first of the ghastly visages to appear scream with the terror of many voices old Bertha centers his mind. She was not a fighter and the years had robbed of most of any speed or strength she ever had, but had also made her mind stronger. She pushes off the influence of the creature as the fight start proper.
Amadi was the first to move amongst the living. At first he thought about grabbing his weapon, a mighty Warhammer that carried the Blessing of the Forge, but instead he takes his shield. Well cut into wood, carved with the symbol of his god. Shadeflame then advances, positioning in himself in the opposite direction to where Sunny stands, flanking the closest apparition. He concentrates his forces, his energy, like the giants of old, and start to grow in size. Larger, stronger, he takes his weapons and smash the incorporeal foe.
Surprised and initially confused, assaulted by the putrid scent and howling of the dead, Sweeps hold his head and challenge the specters with a roar of his own. A primal wave of light, all energy and rage, flows through his body and from his body, strengthening himself and whoever was close to him. Reovering his composure, the genasi dives into the fray, unleashing two attacks from his maul against the spirit closest to him. The first blow goes through the undead while the second hits its cadaveric torso, but not with the strength one would have expected.
On instinct alone the phantom stretches its hand, reaching Sweeps. In a moment, in a touch, the barbarian feels this this pulse of pure negative energy corroding his very being. Sunny advances against the first apparition, making steel rain against it. She hits every single slash, but once again the attacks don’t seem to have their usual effect.
Flying over the battlefield the monstrous crow entity move its eyes, now focusing on poor old Bertha. A wave of entropic force assaults the old woman that reacts grunting in pain, hands over her stomach.
Notes:
@Everyone, Bertha takes 6 necrotic damage. She's showing some wear. @Gruba, it is now Gabriel's turn. @Gunner, Sweeps take 10 necrotic damage.
Gabriel tries to push the fear down into the bottom of his stomach - these foul creatures are abominations, creatures of evil that would harm the innocent without a thought. He tries to appraise the situation quickly, and decides that his first step should be to remove himself from the grasping hands of the ghostly figures.
His eyes begin to glow a bright golden colour and a pair of incorporeal wings sprout from his back (Action - Radiant Soul). Leaping into the air, he climbs 20ft to the ceiling. He then waves an open hand towards Bertha, trying to control his voice as he intones Lathander to heal her wounds (Bonus Action - Healing Light to heal Bertha 9 HP)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sylvio is initially stunned silent with the sudden turn of events. He watches in growing horror as figures rise through the floor and dark clouds billow from the gruesome display of the boy. He then realizes that they’ve been transported in some way to a different place.
Upon recovering from his shock, his next reaction is to turn on Bertha. He reaches his right arm across his body to draw the scimitar, and the left arm across to draw the short sword. He glares at her with fury “You old-a *****, what have you done-a to us!?” He then sees the creatures attack her as well as his new companions and grits his teeth before snarling “If you-a have anything to do with-a this, I’ll make-a sure you die before me!”
He then spits on the ground in front of her before rushing under the now flying Gabriel. His cloak billows out behind him as he gracefully ducks under the creature’s outstretched hand, getting in close before spinning to his right, slashing with the scimitar, which is pulsing with a thunderous energy. 25 Booming Blade attack for 8 Slashing damage. On hit the thundering energy transfers to the creature causing 1 Thunder damage.
The spin continues as he quickly rotates around and jabs the short sword into it’s side before moving on. 11 To hit on a bonus action attack causing 2 Piercing damage. If either attack landed add 7 Sneak attack damage
Using the momentum from that spin he dives towards the corner and rolls to his feet to stand next to Bertha with his weapons held at the ready. He looks at her scornfully and sneers, “There are no betters than-a Sylvio!” (Fancy footwork)
Opposing the death and darkness of the creatures, Gabriel unleashes the light carried in his blood. He takes flight and centers his celestial energy into the old woman. Bertha is visible recovered, as if no pain or harm was done to her. The old woman blatantly ignores Sylvio, but not out of spite. Rather she was just confused, scared and having troubles of her own resisting a onslaught of attacks.
As the elf turned his attention to the specter that stood reaching to Sweeps. Finding an opening though its stretched, cadaveric hand. The rogue uses his innate understanding of magic to cast a rudimentary but incredibly effective spell, Booming Blade, encasing his scimitar in a vibrating force just before his strike. All speed and precision, the steel cuts through the ethereal neck of the enemy, a sneak attack seeking to be decisive and covering its target with the very essence of thunder. A second offensive comes from the foreigner’s shortsword and hits the mark. Neither strike didn’t seem to have as much effect as it should.
Experienced as all of you are, you know that given their incorporeal nature undead of the ghostly type are usually resistant non-magical physical damage, and sure enough that seems to be the case. What truly surprise all you is the appearance of these phantoms. Looking closely at them your notice that their shrouds, of faded black color, carry faces - tormented expressions. The cloth is fact fact tormented spirits.
The third and last of the grim visages to appear cast its eyes upon Sylvio, that just proved himself dangerous with his footwork and sneak attack. It opens its mouth and releases a visceral, blood curling scream. Not so far from it, the examinate that first showed himself, noticing how effective Amadi’s Warhammer seems to be, tries to reach the human that deflects the enemy touch with his shield.
Notes:
@Everyone, Bertha is back at full HP. @Paladin, it is now Amadi's turn. @Althax, make me a Wisdom save throw (DC15).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Amadi slammed his hammer into the spectral horror, a grim and determined look on his face. It was a glancing blow, not nearly as effective as it could have been. Bashing away the arms of the creature as it reaches for him he prepares to swing again.
"It's name is Anvilfist, blessed by the forge of Gond himself." He cries as he brings the hammer down once again. The runes on the head of the hammer flash red as it descends.
Attack: 22 Damage: 9
With all sudden surge of action Amadi brings the hammer back up and swings a second time.
Sweeps’ anger grows as he realizes his blows are not having much effect against the spectral figures. Gripping his maul, he attacks the spectral figure to his north recklessly, taking out his frustration by trying to increase the number of strikes he lands.
Echoing in the scream of the creature the echoes of pleads for help and a myriad of curses cuts through the air. For a moment, a brief moment, Slyvio feels this wave of visceral emotions invading his body. Fear, hate, pain. But he knows at as terrifying, as real as it all feels, it is just an attack. He sees the specter screaming at him and pushes the influence of these maddening voices.
North from him Amadi succeeds with physical strength. The human notices the reaction the first apparition have to his weapon and resolute he shouts its name. Merciless, Anvilfist smite the undead. First at its should, then on its chest. There is no wound to be seen, but the image of the monster, it’s very existence, grows dimmer, almost flickering. If it was a living being it would be showing more than some wear and tear. The strikes were effective, far more precise than before.
In frustration, Sweeps launches a wave of attacks of his own. This time recklessly and stronger. The second amalgamation of souls to show itself is hammered through by the barbarian’s maul. It too seems to start fading, even without showing any wound. It’s eyes shimmer with the color of blood, recognizing once again the thread presented by the genasi.
Sweeps recklessness has a price and the dreadful touch of his enemy once again reaches. A surge of necrotic energy, far stronger than before, with more than twice the power, runs rampant through every fiber of his being. The barbarian is starting to look rough.
Sunny moves swiftly SW passing in front of Chewy under Gabriel and bandaging Sweeps quickly. "Let me see what I can do to slow some of this down. You just keep doing what you're doing." Wrapping the injuries as quickly and as much as she can.
Healer Feat to heal 1d6+4 plus 5 (adding number of hit die up to his level) 11 , and movement up to 30' for distance. Constitution Save 18 and if still damaged using the absorb elements as a reaction since you're allowing.
Gabriel initiative 13
Wisdom save 10
Gabriel will use Favoured by the Gods to add 5 to the saving throw.
Will add full post after work!
