Spectral Figure III
Immersed in battle, concentrated in fighting the enemies, Sylvio’s mind shows itself to be impregnable and he resists the wails of the last apparition. Amadi, in his turn, anticipates that the monstrous crow would once again attack Sunny and takes position on the way the winged horror used to approach its target up to that point, readying Anvilfist to strike, intercept, stop, the enemy.
As he approaches the end of the corridor, the warrior sees beyond an oubliette in the ground a single wooden door. Before he could think about what could lay behind it, the flying entity advances, but not against him. This exanimate have no interest in Shadeflame. In fact it doesn’t seem to even notice his presence. It simply flies in the direction it had used until now to approach the battle and its intended victim, Sunny.
Enlarged by the power of his Giant’s Might, Amadi can reach the beast in the air and as if guided by Wonderbringer himself, his warhammer hits true. The blessed steel smashes the target that disperses in a cloud of feathers and shadow. Saddly, not for long. From the direction of the oubliette the by now familiar screeches echoes. A moment passes, brief and tense, then another and one more and the crow-like entity rises again.
Sweeps, on his turn, rises his maul against the amalgamation of condemned souls in front of him. The first swing misses, but the second hit the apparition. He feels the offensive having less impact than it should.
Notes:
@Jynne, it is Sunny's turn.
@Gruba and @Althax, given the state of the initiative order you can make your posts after Jynne's. Just remember that your action will take place in your respective initiative orders.
Sunny rises to her full height, yellow eyes blaring channeling not a little bit of fear into anger at being targeted by such an obviously evil creature and sets on destroying the last spectre.
Gabriel sees the crow ignore Amadi and head for Sunny once more. Not having made the connection as to the crow's obsession with the tortle, he simply feels divine fury at the injustice: "You've already hurt her. Come for one of us!!"
The aasimar bobs in the air as he keeps aloft on his celestial wings, fires two eldritch blasts at the specter and then flies east, hoping to blockade the southern corridor in case the crow tries to pass him.
Blast 1 Attack: 20 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
With one of these creatures left, Sunny on her feet again, the crow held somewhat in check, Sylvio abandons his position next to Sunny and circles to the creature and attacks from its left. A swipe with the thunderous scimitar 10 for 9 slashing damage, 8 Thunder damage and 12 sneak attack damage.
If the creature remains standing he will follow up with a stab of the short sword 12 for1 piercing damage and saunter to the northwest, in the direction Amadi went.
If the creature dies from the first attack he will use his bonus action to try to slip into the shadows as he moves. 22 Stealth

Crow
Sunny
Gabriel
Sylvio
With the crow-like entity hold at bay by Amadi, Sunny remains afoot and decides it is her time to strike. In a flurry of dexterous attacks, the ranger makes steel rain against the last spectral figure. One, two, three strikes with her shortswords. Each cut seems to have less effect than it normally should, but still damages the enemy considerably.
After the tortle it’s the time of the aasimar unleash his onslaught. Shouting his righteous and truly justified fury with the flying horror and its apparent predilection by the beastmaster, Gabriel fire his Eldritch Blast. Both of its rays fulminate the undead, the first carrying Bryte’s celestial energy.
The combination of the offensives brings the amalgamation of condemned souls to the brink of destruction, but holding on its grudges it prepares to attempt a last wail. Before it could finish opening its skeletal mandible, Sylvio steps in the fray. His Booming Blade swinged precisely at the creature’s neck. The ghastly visage then holds its throat with both hands, as if in pain, howling in despair, before exploding in the many spirits that made its ethereal body.
Amidst the echo of thousands of curses and hopeless pleads, the rogue moves, seeking in the shadows a hiding spot. Trying to be as silent as he possibly could.
Notes:
@Everyone, the last spectral figure is dead. @Paladin, it is now Amadi's turn.
@Gunner, given the state of the initiative order you can make your posts after Paladin's without the need of waiting for further narration.
Amadi, after striking down the crow, immediately turns his attention to the gate watching how the crow comes out of the gate of the oubliette. Does it pass through, does the gate open?
Amadi's action depends on how the crow is coming up through the gate, so unsure if his action needs to be studying the gate or if it is obvious.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sweeps watches Sylvio dispatch the last spectral figure with ease, then turns and dashes down the corridor, ending up next to Amadi. He looks around, investigating the grate to try to determine how it works and if it be blocked to prevent the crow from returning of if we can we use it to escape.
Investigation: 6
(Edit OOC: And he holds true to the stereotype. Sweeps apparently doesn't know what an oubliette is either)

Amadi decides to move closer to where the crow-like entity hovers, action that Sweeps, but a moment later, decides to take. As they both cast their eyes upon what looks to be the end of the dungeon, or at least the opposite side from where they arrived, the barbarian notices nothing new while thanks to his height, increased by the arcane power of the giants of old, Brightflame sees inside of the oubliette.
Instead of stone or ground, he finds a view to a strangely familiar horizon, almost as if looking to a window. In the distance the silhouette of a myriad of decadent buildings. Some made of old, dilapidated stone, many others squalid amalgamations of different types of wood. Hovels amongst ruins, sitting upon damp, fetid streets. Crowded by crates and barrels, trash and rodents, all under the familiar shadows of the Waterdeep city walls. You knew, Amadi, that there was only one place in the entire Crown of the North so destitute - an unofficial ward of the metropolis, sitting between the inner and outer north walls, the slums, the Field Ward.
A portal, you understand. Instead of an angstloch the iron gates guarded a portal and to the poorest part of the city. The crow specter was coming from there, from that shanty town. But why? What relation could that place possibly have with noble children being killed? You raise your head to find a door behind the flying horror, but that could not be an exit. Not if that pit connected to the material plane and it was. You know that much about spatial spells. You are seeing it.
The blood curling sound of a screech cuts through the air. Everyone understands, the feathered monster is moving, intent on killing Sunny.
Notes:
@Everyone, it is still the crow's turn. @Gruba and @Paladin, roll me a Perception Check (DC 15). @Paladin, Amadi can take an attack of opportunity on the crow.
@Gunner, saddly, the crow is flying outside of Sweeps reach (Amadi's reach is greater because Gian'ts Might make him Large sized).
Sunny turns to face the flying beast, knowing that she doesn't have time to react before it reaches her, but if anything at all slows it down, she'll be ready.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing that the danger is more or less contained, Sylvio will walk out of the shadows and move next to the body of Bertha. He kneels down and searches her body for anything of value or any clues as to what is going on. 18 Investigation. He will also try to slip any jewelry or coin into his pockets unnoticed 8 Sleight of hand.

As the crow starts to advance, Amadi strikes with all his strength. Once again, the creature explode into feathers and shadows. Silence takes hold of the chamber until Sylvio speaks, still suspicious of the cold, lifeless body, that once was Bertha. At this point Gabriel, himself flying, looking in the direction of both the undead and, by consequence, the window into Waterdeep recognizes the Field Ward and notices that from an empty lot the exanimate’s bestial figure resurges. With blindly speed it flies back into the dungeon, and casting its eyes in the direction where the assimar knows Sunny now stands, it opens its beak and lets out a its screeching wail.
Amadi and Sweeps can feel into their bones that the monstrous crow will try, once again, to reach the tortle. A behavior unnatural even for that kind of creature. Probably forced by something - the question was, what?
Besides Bertha’s body Sylvio finds nothing. Not jewelry, coin or any other object. By itself it was not surprising. As a housekeeper she more likely didn’t leave Gundwynd Vila during work days, meaning no need for money. The use of any ornaments with her uniform was also unlikely, if not downright improper according to the etiquette rules the staff of a noble House is expected to follow.
Notes:
@Everyone, it was still the crow turn when @Althax narrated Sylvio's action, but for narrative convenience I considered that, this time, he turn already took effect. From now on it is more likely that his action will only take place in his initiative count (during combats). @Jynne it is now Sunny's turn. @Gruba, give the state of the initiative you can post afterJyenne without waiting for further narration.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sunny looks back to Bertha and can't bring herself to leave her behind. Even dead, she's an innocent in her mind. Sunny goes over and scoops her up and carries her to the others not being able to leave her in this place.
"Chewy, come on, lets get out of this horrible place. Good Boy!" Urging the dog to follow her.
Bandaging (healer's feat) and cure wounds second level rolls - Healer's feat 12 (1d6+4+lvl of patient) cure wounds13
Sorry all, Sunny wouldn't have been able to leave her behind. Slows the group and will put her down if needed, but for now she has to try. sorry to slow us down a bit. Her HP is just too low at 7
Amadi strikes the crow down and looks to the others. "Its coming back. I can stand here all day and keep striking it down, but that gets us nowhere. Judging by what I see we may be floating in the air and I have no desire to jump. If one of you can strike this blasted bird I might be able to shut and jam this gate so it can't get back in. Then we can head out this door and find a way out of this magical mansion."
"AGH I can only maintain this wings for a little longer, not enough time to reach the ground, I fear" says Gabriel. Nodding to Amadi he says "I shall blast it as soon as it appears; you close the door and we shall see if that allows us to progress"
If anyone looks confused by the context of the conversation, the airborne aasimar points to the 'window' in the floor and says "It appears that we are some distance above the city's Field Ward"
(Continuing to hold action - Eldritch Blast on the crow as soon as that bad boy shows its beak again)
Dropping to a knee Amadi draws a number of pinions from his bag as well as his smith tools. He then sets to jamming the pinions into the area where the lock would normally go. He also jams them in other places in order to try and keep the gate from opening so that the next time the crow is killed it cannot get back in through the gate.
Sweat pours from his brow as he concentrates on what he is doing. The fire runes on his holy symbol begin to glow as he sets his plan in motion, first stuffing a pinion into the lock hasp and bending it in such a way that it cannot be removed. The clang of the hammer drowns out his quiet prayer to Gond to aid him.
Smith tools roll 15 - Double proficiency bonus added to roll.
Fire Rune
While wearing or carrying an object inscribed with this rune, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses your proficiency with a tool.
Sunny continues her slow progression towards the west side of the room.
Happy to offer help action from Chewy but so far have only seen combat related and don't want to make him a target. If anyone has ideas. He's also not a familiar, so a little more challenging to direct, but could likely do it.
