Clueless Shrek looks longingly at the ranged attacks being made upon the pirates, wishing they were closer so he could get at 'em. "Ha ha!" he finally yelps, realizing he has a handful of javelins attached to his back. "Damn...me no wanna lose any of dese..." he mumbles to himself before unhooking one from its scabbard, hiking himself up to his knees so he can freely see over the boat's gunwales, and unleashes a javelin towards the pirate Captain-

Several pirates seem entangled by the vines suddenly sprouting up suddenly on the boat, causing havoc. To make matters worse, the boat then catches fire by the bow, and the fire begins to spread (Entangled pirates will take fire damage of 4 next round). Shrek's javelin catches the captain on the shoulder but glances off his studded leather. Olaerys misses altogether.
The captain's two thrown daggers fly wide, embedding themselves within the wood of the boat's gunwales right in front of Shrek. Not wanting to lose another javelin, Shrek dislodges one of the daggers, and throws it right back at the captain!
Randall sees Melchor take a bolt or two. "Courage, friend! It's but a scratch." Randall will use a bonus action and one of his superiority dice to trigger Rally to help Melchor. Melchor gains 9 temp hp.
He will then once again attempt to dodge any bolts coming his way and save his reaction to use his shield to impose disadvantage on the first attack against his nearby allies.

Melchor grunts in pain as the two bolts thud into him, and he spits out a bloody stream onto the deck before Randall's words bring his attention back to the fight. He nods towards Randall in gratitude, before moving his hand across in front of him, fingers wiggling and his focus crystal shimmering in his other hand. 'Somnalisss...' the words hiss out as he exerts his will... (Melchor has cast Sleep at 2nd level - affecting 34hp worth of enemies...)

Shrek pries free the second dagger which the pirate captain had previously thrown at him, and returns it back to sender with a loving message of "Pirate not attach enough postage to dagger...please resend with adequate postage!"
Thrown dagger Attack on pirate captain: 17 Damage: 7
Shrek's dagger sails wide as panic sets in on the pirates ship. Entangled, the captain begins shouting directions at the remaining functional crew members, trying to put out the fire and get the boat to safety, battle decisively lost. Shoalar and Pike shout profanities as the ship scrapes by Shoalar's keelboat.
Olaerys holds on throwing any further javelins, pulls one out if there are any stuck in the side of the other boat, and gives a couple of choice hand signals to the other crew, shouting out what he thinks of their mothers and where they can stick his additional javelins. He walks up to Shoalar with Shrek and says, "Just a normal day on the river?"

As the pirate ship begins to flee, Melchor’s eyes narrow in anger, and he gestures, muttering a few more arcane words, as 3 motes of glimmering light shoot from his fingers towards the boat…
(Melchor has cast Magic Missile at the boat, all 3 missles striking the same spot, just below the waterline doing 3x4 force damage to that spot)
Ankita blushes a bit when she hears what comes out of Olaerys's mouth, but she holds her tongue. Happy they got out of that quickly, she asks Shoalar, "How much further till we get to Beliard?"
Once the pirates flee, Randall watches their ship move slowly away, trying to see if there is anything recognizable about them... banners, colors, a flag... that he could use to identify them later or to report them to local law.
Then he moves to check on Melchor. "Holding up all right? It seems those privateers were smarter than they looked... they knew to target our spell-casters first."

Melchor looks at the two bolts still sticking out of him, one through a shoulder and the other through the upper thigh of his shortened leg. ‘I’ll admit to having been better, Randall.’ Then his gaze follows down to his missing lower leg ‘I have been worse though.’ he continues with grim humour, spitting out more blood. ‘Give me a hand getting these bolts out cleanly, would you?’
Melchor's missiles detonate near the aft of the boat and the wood splinters, leaving a pumpkin sized hole. Not enough to sink it immediately but the pirates are going to be busy for some time.
Shoalar looks at Melchor with a degree of respect. "Didn't expect you to be so sturdy." Switching his gaze to Olaerys and Shrek, he says with a bit of a grin "These days, yes. Bandits everywhere. Always best to be careful. And now you know something of me. I am far from helpless. Don't try and play any games with."
He makes a simple gesture with his hand, and a narrow fountain of water leaps from one side of the boat to the other.
"Sure, Melchor. I'm no field surgeon but I'll do my best."
