Ariana runs to the left of Ruby, kicking off the shelf and using the momentum to slam her foot into the maggots. She'll then wind her quarterstaff around and slam it with both hands into the maggot swarm.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
With the dead maggots and additional corpse movements, Ariana will gag again and grab Ruby's elbow and whisper conspiratorially to her, "Let's go check out that passage again."
She'll then walk to where the footsteps end at the wall and investigate.
Investigation 8
(OOC: oops, Ruby already found the switch. Even so, anything to distract herself from the grossness I guess... ;) )
You don't recall anyone asking Hanna for a description of Cal at the Snapping Line, but the corpse appears to be a young man in his late teens or early twenties. The armor he wears is banged up and dented, but appears to have been new before receiving the damage. The leather straps are still supple and there is a sheen of oil on the metal. The sword and shield are similarly in like-new condition. As far as descriptive features go, it appears the young man had brown hair. There isn't much more to go off of, between whatever beating killed him and damage done by scavenging pests the young man's face is unidentifiable. You do spot a necklace lying next to the corpse in the pool of dried blood that surrounds it. There appears to be a symbol or charm made of non-precious metal on a similarly non-precious metal chain.
Wake -
The helm is dented in and difficult to remove, but you do manage to lift it away after a bit of tugging. The head of the corpse is similarly dented, obvious blunt force trauma. The medium length brown hair is matted with dried blood and other matter. Pests have been at the body as well. Judging from the state of decay you would say the young man has been dead roughly a ten-day. You notice what appears to be a birthmark on the neck, a brown patch of skin about the size of a silver piece. The birthmark is just to the right of the Adam's Apple.
As you make your way over to the section of wall near the fireplace, you see something sticking out from under one of the wine racks. Crouching down to get a better look, you see that it is an intact bottle of wine, its dusty label bearing the image of a jauntily dressed unicorn. It appears to be the only intact bottle remaining, all the rest are either empty or shattered.
“This was a young man, perhaps it was Cal.” Wake says.
Wake will retrieve the necklace and say,
”Maybe with this necklace as well as the description of brown hair and a silver piece sized birthmark just right of the Adam’s apple can confirm whether this was Cal.”
Wake sighs and says a quick silent prayer for the fallen “hero”.
”Shall we take his belongings? They might provide an upgrade for some of us. He no longer has need of them.”
Wake will try to determine if Mending cast enough times could resuscitate the plate mail and helm.
The armor can certainly be repaired with enough time and castings of Mending. It would take roughly ten minutes to completely repair the set. The necklace and symbol attached to it are partially covered in dried blood. Some of the links are stiffened by the blood and the chain retains much of the shape it took when it fell in the blood. The following symbol is attached to the chain:
Wake would recognize this as a symbol of Lathander.
There is also an Explorer's Pack beneath the body, minus the rations and water.
"Yeah, let´s." Ruby says to Ariana, showing her the stone switch on the wall. After she calms down a bit she turns to Kulogall. "Hey Kulogall? You said you saw your brother, again, do you think he´s here? Should we be worried about an ambush or a trap?"
“I can repair this armor and helm, given about 10 minutes. I am proficient with this armor but it would slow my walking speed. How about you Daveth, could you use the armor without encumbrance? Do we want to leave it here for later?”Wake asks everyone.
While waiting for responses, Wake will pour some water in his hand to help clean off the necklace.
Wake - Daveth looks apprehensively at the corpse and then the armor, "If it is Cal's, perhaps we should return it to Hanna? I wouldn't feel right wearing a dead man's armor..."
Ariana says, "All armor is a dead man's armor, given enough time. In the meantime however..." She holds up the intact bottle of wine and smiles large. "Anyone in need of a drink?"
She pops the cork and sniffs. Is it safe to drink?
"Well, I'm sad for Cal too, but I don't think he would mind Wake wearing his armor when avenging him, because since we couldn't save the boy we sure as hell will avenge him." Elwyn says grimly, eager to find whoever did this to Cal.
Ariana - The wine bottle uncorks with a loud POP that is amplified in the stone cellar. After a sniff and small sip you believe that it's safe to drink and is actually a rather high quality vintage.
Ariana can't tell a quality wine from a cooking wine, but she takes a big swig and holds the bottle out. "It's delicious. Anyone want any?" A dribble of red wine rolls down her chin and she wipes it away with her sleeve.
"Let's celebrate when we have dealt with whoever is behind all this shall we?" Elwyn says to Ariana, not usually one to turn down a good wine, but his mind is set on vengeance now.
Ariana shrugs and takes another swig before trying to push the cork back into the bottle. If successful (she checks by turning the bottle upside down), she sticks the bottle into her bedroll in her pack for safe keeping.
"I'm ready for vengeance," she says, giving Elwyn a solid nod with a furrowed brow.

Ruby will move closer to the rot grub swarm, stabbing through them with her shortsword. Feeling very nauseous from the sight.
Movement: H4 to D2
Shortsword: 21 piercing damage: 9
Ruby - You bisect a number of the maggots and your blade is dripping with their slimy green innards.
Ariana is up!
Ariana runs to the left of Ruby, kicking off the shelf and using the momentum to slam her foot into the maggots. She'll then wind her quarterstaff around and slam it with both hands into the maggot swarm.
Movement F2 to D2
Unarmed strike Attack: 24 Damage: 4
Quarterstaff Attack: 23 Damage: 8
Then she'll gag a little.
Ariana - The grubs burst like grapes beneath your feet and your staff finishes off what few were still squirming.
Rot Grub Swarm 2 is DEAD. Combat has ended.
All - The maggots all appear to be dead. What would you like to do now?
"That can't be Cal right?" Elwyn says anxiously looking at the rot grub ridden corpse.
Perspetion: 12
Wake will kick the flipped shield and long sword further from the body and proceed to use his warhammer to lift the helm away from the face.
(We can go back to the medicine check already rolled, if that’s ok.)
