Ariana - As you step across the attic you find that the floor here is in pretty poor condition as well, even more so than the rest of the house. This is likely due to the many holes in the roof. Stepping lightly amongst the debris and rubbish, the floor boards creek and groan under your weight. About halfway across the attic, you hear the sudden flapping of many pairs of wings and a number of dark shapes detach themselves from the rafters and surround you!
Stealth check: 12
Six large bat-like creatures flutter around you. Their leathery skin is mostly hairless and their faces narrow to a lengthy pointed proboscis with which they attempt to jab at you repeatedly!
Let's roll for initiative! The stirges have gained a surprise round thanks to their Stealth check.
Wake’s Initiative (with advantage due to Vigilant Blessing): 16
(Remember Ariana, you can add 1d4 to an ability check of your choosing within the next minute - I don’t believe Initiative is considered an ability check)

All - Initiative is considered a Dexterity check so Guidance would apply.
Gorik initiative: 21
The stirges flap their leathery wings as they swarm Ariana, stirring up dust and dried stirge guano. They all probe at her with their needle-like mouthparts. Four of the stirges jam their proboscis' into her and begin drawing deeply upon them. Her eyes roll up and she faints at the sudden drop in blood pressure, falling to the floor. The four stirges still cling tightly to her, bodies swelling as they gorge.
I might throw up a battle map later, there isn't one in the book and I didn't get around to making one myself. For now we'll just go with theatre of the mind.
"NOOOO, ARIANA." Elwyn flies into a rage and unleashes a wave of thunderous force over the blood-sucking creatures. Thunderwave 9 save con 13 vs half (OOC: Ariana will survive, just one death save before someone heals her right, right?.)

"Please, someone, help her!" Elwyn rushes forward, kneeling beside Ariana, trying to stop the bleeding with bits of his shirt torn off. Acrobatics if needed to get to Ariana: 13 Medicine: 12
Wake gasps at the quickness and severity of the attack. And before that is even processed, he sees the threat eliminated. Now, a friend is down and slipping away.
He carefully approaches while beginning his prayerful call for the healing powers of Selune to be channeled through him to revive his fallen mate. He places his hands at the puncture wounds and casts …
Ariana gasps as she comes to. She sees Wake and Elwyn standing over her with concerned looks on their faces. She chuckles weakly. "Oops. Thanks," she says softly as she gets up. She retreats back to the rest of the group and leans against the wall to rest as the others investigate the loot.
Kulogall has a bolt of fire drawn up in his hands, lets it dissipate when he hears the thunderous boom and sees all of the stirges fall. "Ariana!" Kulogall comes up and stands over her as well, feeling that he was too late to make a difference, pleased at the quick actions of Elwyn and Wake. "Are you ok? Is there anything up here of value, anyway?" He helps her up and gets her some water.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

Wake will sigh and give thanks to Selune.
He will reset his Vigilant Blessing for whatever comes next.
He deeply believes something of value has to be up here. Something forgotten. Something hidden. He will pray for guidance as he slowly searches the decrepit attic. Looking for false flooring, odd scratch marks on the floors, walls or ceilings. Anything between the rafters. He will use his warhammer to bust up any guano piles and pull down any nest (if stirges have nests).
Investigation: 19 (assuming someone helps, otherwise just take the first number)

Ariana accepts the water from Kulogall with silent gratitude and poorly hidden embarrassment.
Wake - Alas, there is naught to be found but a couple of abandoned owl nests surrounded by the bones of many rodents and useless garbage.
