Pal will also join Calanon. He will casually toss a fire bolt from one hand to the other as he stands near by. He is hoping to help Calanon with any Intimidation or Persuasion checks he might need to make.
The little girl glances down at Calanon's hand on her shoulder, then looks up at him with narrowed eyes that suddenly seem to glow and pulse a purple color as she clutches at something in her pocket. "Say, friend, I didn't mean any harm. Surely it didn't bother you too much? Why don't you go enjoy one of the other attractions in this fine carnival?"
Her words seem to hit you with great weight and you feel an urge to agree with her. Calanon, please make a charisma saving throw. This is occurring just before your friends have caught up to you.
"Please do not run." Davis says with a glance to the female in question. "We would like to have some words with you, and, if possible, learn why you are doing these things." he looks around the place. "This place has issues, and we have an idea that it has something even worse under its outer aspect, but we don't know enough, and would like to learn why you do what you are doing. Maybe they are related..." He leaves the last hanging, an invitation to explain herself.
The girl hesitates, seeing she is outnumbered and that Pal is clearly preparing a spell. She looks Davis in the eye and is obviously weighing his words. Then she nods her head and, in a different voice than you heard before, she says, “Alright, let’s talk. But not here, around all these people.”
This new voice is a silky soft man’s voice.
Being in close quarters with this person and interacting with her, you’re each invited to make an investigation check.
She will gesture to move along the lake away from the singing, where the crowd thins out considerably and a more private conversation can be had.
“I take it, then,” she says, still with the man’s silky smooth voice, “that you are also followers of Zybilna? Is that what has brought you here?”
"I follow no one. I am merely trying to enjoy myself. If possible I would like to no longer languish in the dour season I find myself in at this moment." The eldarin says, keeping a close watch on the girl as she changes her voice yet again.
As you continue to interact with her, following her to the quiet end of the lake, you become more cognizant of the fact that her appearance is a magical facade. Once you realize it, the awareness snowballs such that you can see straight through it. This is not a skinny young girl with red hair, but rather a bipedal black-feathered humanoid bird, much like a walking talking crow. A kenku.
She (?) looks at you with some confusion. "You're not followers of Zybilna? But then, why are you investigating the carnival? What purpose do you have here?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Pal will say, "We see through your façade my feathered foe, you can drop the act. We're here to find what was stolen from us the last time we attended this carnival. Tell us what you know or you'll disappear too." Pal fully intends to play the "bad city watchman" if someone else would like to play the role of "good city watchman".
"I see you're not ordinary carnival-goers," says the person, and her disguise drops. "My name is Kettlesteam. I am a devout follower of Zybilna, a powerful archfey who resides in a part of the Feywild known as Prismeer. She is my patron and gives me magical strength. Some people would call me a warlock. But lately, I've become more and more sure that something is wrong with Zybilna. I cannot contact her any more, and my powers are starting to wane. I came to the carnival tonight because I'm sure Mr Witch and Mr Light know something about what happened to Zybilna. They're connected to her, somehow. But they refuse to tell me anything about it! So my plan is to wreck havoc at their precious carnival until they give in to me and tell me what I need to know."
"So you say you each lost something, that's why you're drawn here? Yes... That makes sense, it matches something that I overheard them say."
Her voice changes to perfectly mimic that of Mr Witch and Mr Light, and she repeats what they said:
"Someone is going to find out about this! They'll shut us down!" "We agreed to this pact. Our hands were forced but our eyes were open. We let the Hourglass Coven take what it wants, and in return, we stay in business. That is what you want, right?"
"We must find out what caused this plight, to do this I think we just might confront Mr. Witch and Mr. Light." Viola rhymes in a serious and determined tone.

The spell has no apparent effect, you’re able to resist it. You’re also aware of the magical attempt to somehow affect you.
Seeing this, and seeing your friends arrive as well, the girl grows quite concerned and looks like she’s going to try to bolt.

Pal will ready Snare in case the girl decides to run.
DC 13 Investigation check to notice the trap.
If the trap is triggered, requires a DC 13 DEX Saving Throw or be hoisted 3 feet in the air and restrained.

"We must find out what caused this plight,

Viola rhymes in a serious and determined tone.
Calanon watches the kenku carefully, nodding at what they say as he lets his stance become less hostile. "Do you know what this witchlight coven is?"
“Hourglass Coven? No, I haven’t heard of it, either. But I’m sure that Light and Witch do. It must be the Coven that took your things!”
Pal looks to the others and says, "Shall we go pay another visit to our hosts then? Perhaps with more steel and less honey in our words this time?"
"Yes, let us go with haste,
we have no time to waste."
Viola rhymes as dances off toward the staff area.
