Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
Fin has the good fortune to see the sun rise from behind Mount Voture in a way he never thought he would, but does not see anything that Ferg was describing, try as he might.
OOC Fin what would you like to do now? I believe you and Ferg agreed that when two hours had passed you would wave someone else up and that ultimately the goal was to sleep for 8 hours but at this point it is up to you since you seem the be the only person awake. So far you have not seen or heard a single thing on the road or in the mountains or in the fields but then again, the day has almost literally just begun.

((How does Fin sit for overall rest through the night? If he stays up and takes a few more hours of sleep in the wagon through the day, would you say it equates to a Long Rest? I'm not opposed to risking a level of exhaustion, but I like to know my options :) ))
Fin gives Effulgyn's shoulder a few nudges to rouse him. He gives a brief detail of the uneventful watch and strange sighting of bird he'd never actually seen. Returning to the wagon, he didn't even bother taking off his armor. The dawn was lighting the morning and the others would be alive with activity soon. No sense in getting all undressed just to undo it again.

Effulgyn your shift goes by without incident--no movement near the mountain, no movement in the field,, and what birds you see in the sky seem of the common sort, as uninterested in you as you are in them.
The one thing you do notice is that it's going to be quite a warm day.
You can wake someone else up if you want to sleep for the next two hours but if you just keep resting up here and let the others sleep that's fine too. You will all have had a long rest within 2 hours.

'Nice morning,'thinks Effulgyn, calmly chewing on a straw, having awakened before dawn most of his life before the Academy, back on the Nimblewynde farm. 'It seems silly to go back to sleep now that the sun is up. I'll let these other lot rest up, then we can push off.'He quietly waters & feeds Asterix, and prepares for the day. Once everyone is long-rested and ready to move, he clicks his tongue and sets the cart to moving down the road once more.
"Let's get our plan straight for today, lads. Just passing through Berens, right? And do ye all remember our story, should townsfolk be suspicious of us?"
“Hoy all!,” says Effulgyn, after scanning 360-degrees around the to ensure no one has seen the group meet up.
“The donkey is called Asterix. There’s a barrel of ale and my brewer’s supplies in the cart. If anyone asks, I am traveling to Beres and points beyond to experiment with adding new ingredients to the beer brewing process to create a new flavor which I hope will be a hit across Stoacia and make me wealthy. You lot are along ‘cuz — security in numbers —and to help with harvesting and that kind ‘o thing. If anyone stops us, offer ‘em a pint and ask their opinion o’ the taste. It’s good ale — I paid full price, ha! That’s our narrative.”
(Effulgyn will rub dirt, mud or what have you on any branding on the barrel so it is not recognizable.)
“We can take turns resting in the cart. Let’s be off and put some mileage between us and the Academy under cover o’ darkness.”
(OOC: From Post #64. I don't believe anyone responded to this, so, if you've a better idea, feel free to bring it up now. :)
By the time the party has roused from sleep, Effulgynhas already prepared the cart for departure. His suggestion to enter Beres under the guise of being an inventive brewer seeking ingredients to tap into a specialist beer market - with all of you being his guards--needs discussion.
Ashis the first to lend his agreement. "Would explain the vials too, maybe" he says, reminding you all of the ice crystal vials he has been carrying and which are meant to capture samples of the mold that is apparently growing in Kindermarsh, still a few days away.

"Effylgyn, I don't have a better idea so this is reasonable. I like that we have a potential explanation for the vials if asked. Let's head to Beres and then maybe we can find our way to the Kindermarsh." He will keep Parson flying in formation in front of the party so they can be warned if anything is seen.
Ferg, already one of great self confidence, suddenly feels a surge of uber-confidence and realizes he now understands the arcane arts better than before.
Arc, after a long rest and having faced fear has ideas for new inventions. First will be a repeating crossbow. The other will take a gem but he believes he can make an automaton helper (HOMUNCULUS). He shares his drawings.
Feeling well rested, alert, invigorated really--the companions continue down the road. Eventually the gritty, desert-like terrain starts to become greener again, with trees appearing more often in the distance, sometimes in groups of three or four which provides some shade from the ever-blossoming sun.
You've been walking a couple of hours and are within an hour or so of Beres when you start to notice that the road you're on is getting smoother--the cart is no longer bumping along, and Asterix no longer has to keep skirting large rocks and divots.
Parson, flying about 100 feet out and then circling back in a frankly soothing kind of way, alerts you to something, or someone, coming up the road.
