Ev'alish, the silver dragonborn, looks fondly to the newcomer. "'Tis good to see that thou art alright. My name is Ev'alish."
To the rest of the group, he suggests as he nods to the warlord: "Mayhaps we shalt look around as we explore the village; we might happen upon stocks or manacles."
The first answer of the last bandit came in the form of a dagger, faster than his shot, hitting he in the shoulder, destabilizing his shot and it easier to avoid. The cold steel biting through his flesh felt almost like a lesson. To not hesitate, to not show mercy. Something for the next battle, he thought to himself as the Zhentarim surrendered.
Sorjen removed the blade from his body and started to retrieve his arrows as his friends started to interrogate the now prisoner. As Khessa mentioned her village and the drow raid he felt like understanding a little bit more about her. Maybe the whole cabbages thing was part of her trauma. He was thinking how the blonde would ract if she ever met Drizzt DoUrden. He was one of the most famous if not the most famous heroes of the Far North, quite different from the most dark elves. Her words brought him back to reality.
“Going by what I saw of the village from the top of the tower, this tavern is as good of a place as any.” Everything in Nigstone was practically a complete ruin. “We can just tie him up but…”The half-elf approached the bandit, crudely ripping his arrow from Xolkin with every hope of bringing him as much pain as possible. “This place is full of goblins. If one of them reach him, well, it won’t be a quick clean death. Not with quality of the blades the small ones carry. There is also the matter of him seeking vengeance if he survives.”
If the man was telling the truth and there was really no further reinforcements them it would be safer to cut his neck then and there. I should have paid more attention, tried to read his actions. At least he had retrieved most of his arrows. Now only the two he used to bring the worg down were missing.
“In case you want more than adventure and distress, we are likely to get some reward for our efforts and there is strenght in numbers.” Ha said to the dwarf.
Khessa, given that both Ev'alish and Sorjen are still injured: "Shall we catch our breath an tend to our wounds? Might be safer to meet the last goblins after regaining some strength... Plus, I'd have something to show to Kramyra..."
(OOC: Khessa is proposing to take a short rest, so that the wounded will be able to use hit dices to heal)
“A breather, yes. But I don’t see the point of dealing with this ‘wolf’. Just do in this murdering thief and move on. There’s plenty to do without having to watch our backs for his knife.” Kan kicks dirt towards the zhent
Kramyra ignores their new captive as he doesn't have anymore use to them. "Greetings Gryrim, a pleasure to meet you. My name is Kramyra and I'm happy to see they didn't maim you too bad. Impressive how you escaped, I would have hated for them to use you as leverage against us. While we rest why don't you tell us a little about yourself?" Kramyra looks at Sorjen, "I'd agree, this tavern is probably the best place for a breather."
She hears Khessa say her name "Can I be of service?"
Khessa smiles warmly to Kramyra: "Yes, you could, really. Do you remember what I asked you before? About you teaching me magic? Getting to see you roast those Zhentarims so badly convinced me even more that I want to give magic a try. So much versatility would I have, switching from blade to magic or from spell to steel, as needed... Will you take me as your apprentice, mistress? Look, I have even tried studying a bit by myself" the excited woman fetches a black heavy tome from her backpack; bizzare web-like decoration and arcane runes are on the cover "maybe with a little of your help I can actually get some spell working... Will you help me with that? I'll be the most grateful apprentice you ever had! Give me a try and teach me a moment while the others rest... please, it would mean a lot to me"
Khessa to Kan: "You know what? Even if I strongly suspect you do not like cabbages, as far as the prisoner is concerned, you are right. Go ahead and get rid of him"
Kramyra looks at Khessa with interest. It's been awhile since she had an apprentice, and honestly, it wasn't like she was a master herself. She's mainly just helped a few of her friends get where they wanted to go. She supposed this wasn't really anything different? Plus she had this interesting book. "Sure, would be great to have another of our crew with some additional weapons up her sleeve. Let me check out that book you have and I'll see if I can help you utilize it."
While looking at the book, she overhears Khessa tell Kan to rid them of the extra baggage they now had. "Actually, if you want to use him as target practice? Would be useful as you try out these spells. Just a thought." The tabaxi doesn't like to waste opportunities even if they aren't the most conventional. And she finds herself enjoying teaching Khessa, which was odd as she typically saw herself as a loner. But welcomed the change.

Ev’alish turns. “I must object. Thy hast judged him to be a threat if released; ‘tis sensible. However, magical experimentation doth be akin to torture. We art better than that. If thy wish to end his life, end it quick.”
Khessa: "I thank you for your concern, mistress Kramyra, but I agree with Ev'alish. I don't feel fine about experimenting on the prisoner. I'll leave it to Kan's mercy. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to practice with unanimated targets as effectively. Look," opening the book before the tabaxi "a spell to block a blow at the last instant, a spell to identify magic, a spell to block ill influence... Shall we start with the first one, the Shield spell? You see? It describes the gesture and I try to do it, but then says this thing about 'the weave'... I don't undetstand, what is it?"
(We can go on if you like... Or we can simply say lesson goes on, if it is too boring to roleplay it all)
A stout dwarf rounds the corner of the building as the group continues their interrogation of the captured captain. "Hail saviours!" He walks confidently to the main group. "I am Gryrim, most recently of horseback. Thank you all for the diversion enabling my escape. These scum captured me one maybe two towns back." He shakes the hands of my who recognise the gesture of his outheld hand as he continues. "Seems I'm either stuck in an empty town or the newest member of your group, I'll join you if it's acceptable to all."
As the conversation continues he smiles at the mention of a tavern. "Now you're talking. Enough of this killing, let's drink. I used to own a tavern you know. Last names Meadheart afterall."
(Gryrim is happy to tend to the drinks of the group as they rest)
Just one thing to rectify: Khessa agreed with Ev'alish NOT TO experiment magic on Xolkin. She agrees with the dragonborn that it would be like torturing him... She might have done that, in retaliation, should have caught Xolkin torturing others, but she did not... so she simply gives him a death as quick and as merciful as she can (maybe having him lay the head on a table or chair, then beheading him with a powerful slash from her greatsword).
Khessa is very grateful to Kramyra! The tabaxi proved to be quite the teacher she needed to finally get her spells to work and the lesson went on (almost) smoothly:
"Oh, so THAT'S 'the weave'! Great, let's try the Shield spell then! I'm sure I'm ready, mistress Kramyra! Here! Throw me this ball of mud, I'll stop it with the spell! What? Practicing the gesture again? No need, I'm pretty, sure, go ahead and throw that thing..." SPLAT! "OOWW! Can not see anymore! Err... Gryrim, would you fetch me a bucket of water, pretty please? Right, thank you, that's better... Well, let's practice the gesture just a few more times... OK, let's try again. Yes, another ball of mud. Ready, go! Yesss! Did you see! Blocked just an inch from the face! IT IS WORKING! IT IS... Opps, sorry, got a little too excited, yes, I did not want to share my success with all the remaining goblins of Nightstone. Let's try next spell!"
"Great, mistress Kramyra! You see! I mastered the Fire bolt spell! Look at that chair!" WHAAMM! "You see? I set it on fire! Oh, speaking of that... Gryrim, would you mind passing me the water bucket again? Maybe I should avoid setting the whole inn on fire... Thank you, that's very kind of you"
"OK, mistress Kramyra, this time I'll jump from the stairs and I'll fall as light as a feath..." THUMP! "What? Oh, you're right, THE FEATHER! They do not call it FEATHER fall for nothing, afer all. The spelling is ok, but I need to use a feather as material component. I even shot that pigeon to get one! Let's try again. Incoming! Hey! It worked! I felt almost weightless during the fall... It's all so... wonderful! Thanks a lot, mistress!"
...and so on.
Now, finally an accomplished wizard, Khessa hugs Kramyra, kisses her on the cheeks, even lifts her off the ground and begins to dance for a while. As she stops: "I'm so grateful mistress Kramyra! I really I'm in debt with you!" a tear of emotion shines in her deep blue eyes.
Last two things Khessa does, at the end of the lesson:
1) She fetches the treasure chest, fills it with some debris, then asks Kan: "Kan, do you think you would be able to lock the chest again? I'd like to have a 'false treasure' to fool or at least to distract some dim witted monster, should the need arise..."
2) She checks the gems we found. If one of them is 'a pearl worth at least 100 gp' (material component needed for identify) Khessa offers to identify the potion we found (she can cast the spell as ritual, no need to prepare it).

I would be happy to say the lesson goes on as we take a short rest, drink with Gryrim as we get to know him and get started on our way.

At the end of the lesson, Khessa, mastered a few cantrips and these six 1st level spell: Absorb Elements, Feather Fall, Identify, Magic Missile, Protection from Evil and Good, Shield. Since Kramyra studied the book with her, Khessa allows Kramyra to copy some of the spells in her spellbook, if she likes and if she can.
