“Sir Talavar! We’re going to miss you! But yes, I understand you must deliver your news to your mistress.” As the fairy dragon presents his sword, Resmae hesitates, making sure no one else appears to want it, bearing none, she steps forward, bows to the small Lord and takes his sword. “Thank you, I will proudly wield your sword good sir.”
As they are leaving, she can’t stop looking at Aros and her heart crumbles seeing her in this manor. She looks to Sammy to see if there is a way the pup can help carry her? She asks him to at least walk next to her so she can lean on him if needed.
”Clapperclaw” she muses to herself, “He looked a bit terrifying in the stream, but Sir Talavar sure seemed happy to hear about him. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!”
Halei smiles and waves goodbye to Sir Talavar, she was gonna miss her new friend, she'd gotten used to carrying the cage and had grown to like having him around.
"Off we go friends!"
Even though she may not be aware of it, Halei pats Aros back in sympathy.
Bugs lets Resmae take the little dragon's sword. "Good luck Sir. Talavar. You were the first friendly face we met here in the feywild. I hope our paths cross again sometime."
With that he prepared to move out with the others. As seemed to be the case with everyone, he was worries about Aros. Their friend needed help and it was time to get it for her.
The adventuring party reach the base of Telemy Hill, and you are again greeted by the muddy swamp (difficult terrain). You all head off, trudging through the mud. Splosh, squelch, splish, squelch. Mud again covers you, and the feel of soggy clothing weighs on you again.
Resmae, with yourself and Sammy supporting Aros, you carry on.
(Even as a child, Aros is too large for Sammy to carry. Her condition is not good. She can move with your support and follow instructions. She is not able to fight or run. I have added Sir Talavar's tiny sword to your inventory. Please see for details.)
After several hours of travel in what you hope is the right direction...
Five muddy creatures emerge from the muck, startling you and trapping you as they have you surrounded. One of them pipes up in a gravelly and harsh voice and blurts out, "Halt!"
In similar sounding barking voices, the others continue with their demand, "You cannot pass!"
"...or we shall drag you down into the mud!" is their demand.
Sneering and chuckling with sinister intent, they await your response. (These small, muddy creatures are asking you to tell them what you think, is their favourite food.)
"Hmmm...." Halei hadn't the slightest clue! She was terrible at puzzles, but she remembered playing in the mud with the older kids when she was younger, and recalls fondly of how they would make "mudpies" for each other and pretend to eat them.
She giggles to herself before she blurts out "Mudpies!"
Wildred replies "well that's not very fair in all my academic years I have never been asked a question that has not atleast been researched or given a hint! Say could we get a clue?"
(Wildred would like to use his perception to check the surroundings at any hint to what the creature may eat insects flaura and fauna of the like anything that seems possible it could be the creatures favorite food. Also his insight to see whether the creatures are serious or whether he gets a hint from the creature, also can wildred recall these in his studies would that be nature or history something like that?)
(So that's a Perception or investigation?insight nature or history? I won't Roll untill you decide what checks I need to do Jim)
Wildred, you notice the swampy surrounds. Rotting trees, mangroves, mud, insects.
You can roll insight (DC8) check to see if the creatures are serious, investigation (DC10) check to further investigate what they might eat, and/or nature (DC12) check to see if you know what these creatures are.
Bugs looks at the odd creatures around him. His answer to the question is . . . "blood." It was just a guess, but if the creatures looked like anything it was a deformed mosquito.
As he spoke Bugs prepared to fight. He had his shortsword ready to go.
(I'm not sure if you consider us to be in combat or not, but if so, he will do a held action - if he is attacked he will swing at whatever attacks him.)
Wildred, you recall from your studies, these creatures as being mud mephits. Slow, unctuous creatures of earth and water. More of a nuisance than a threat. They drone their complaints to all who will listen and beg incessantly for attention and treasure. A closer investigation of the area uncovers many a tasty morsal for all sorts of fey wildlife. Crickets, worms, beetles, leeches, tree roots, rotting leaves etc. But none of these seems to fit these little elemental creatures. You ponder more upon their name and composition.
Resmae looks around at the creatures surrounding them and starts getting upset. Aros needed real help, she didn't need to be needled by the likes of these creatures. "I don't care what your favorite food is! We are on our way to see Clapperclaw and do not need to be way laid by the likes of you! Please, move aside if you don't want to see my Sammy here show you his teeth!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wildred, as soon as you produce the silver coin and hold it toward the mud mephit closest to you, it leaps from the mud attempting to snatch it from your hand. Please roll a DEX check to contest the creature. The mephit rolls14.
Resmae outbursts in anger at the ambush. At which, the mephits snarl maniacally, and the five of them leap from the mud toward you to attack.
Bugs doesn't have a lot of experience with combat but he does know that rule #1 is to protect the mage. So knowing that Sammy and Chapley have some of the other Mephits covered he also goes after Mephit D. His shortsword comes out and he moves to attack the dirty little critter.
(If we were around a table we might know if this was the right place to attack, but as is . . . do what makes sense before hand.)
*Rolls made on character sheet in a minute. (17 to hit and 4 damage if successful.)

Chapley moves to stand next to Resmae and Sammy. Holding his axe in one hand, he pulls a javelin from his back and hurls it at the nearest mephit before bracing to intercept any attacks coming at his two adjacent allies.
Attack: 14 Damage: 9
Reaction: If an adjacent ally receives an attack, Chapley will intercept, reducing its damage by 9

Roled them all over DC

OOC: Balliol, you are not in combat. Yet!
Wildreds eyes focus on what seems to be the lead mud mephit, the one who asked the question.
"Il tell you what how about you tell us! Let us pass and I will give you some treasure"
Wildred produces 1 silver coin from his pouch and holds it out towards the leader.
Resmae looks around at the creatures surrounding them and starts getting upset. Aros needed real help, she didn't need to be needled by the likes of these creatures. Adventurers, please roll initiative.
Initiative 5
Dex 7
Guess I lost my treasure 🤑 haha😄
(Don't think il use portent for something so trivial)
Resmae initiative 24
Chapley Initiative: 9
Chapley grins and hefts his axe at the sight of Resmae's conflict resolution strategy.
Wildred conjures his trusty fire ball and hurls it at Mud Mephit D.
20 to hit
7 damage
