At Mr. Light's revelation of their task, Aros actually takes the time to look at these strangers for the first time. She sees Halei in Zephixo's hat and lets out a bubbling laugh, much like she had in the ring. Aros wasn't one to ask questions. If this was how she'd be spending her evening, then she'd roll with the punches.
"Alright boss!"she exclaims, standing. "Why not! Let's go wrangle some spiders with a bunch'a strangers! Not the strangest thing you've asked me to do for this carnival! Only, I gotta change first." She motions to her bloodstained gown.
Resmae salutes when Mr. Light talks about her training the new spiders as she is always dutiful and ready for the next challenge, but the task of the whole thing finally makes its way to her little mind and she sits down with the weight of it. Still smiling though, "By the light of Lathander, we will succeed!" Prismeer? Where was that? She really only knows the circus, but all the creatures she will encounter?? At least she hopes to anyways, the excitement of the new adventure starts coursing through her veins.
Eyes bright with anticipation, "Can I bring Sammy?"
"Sounds like a missed a few things! Spider wrangling seems fun, I'm down," Halei chirps in, rubbing the back of her neck, nervously hoping the Misters didn't see her come out from the tent. She then turns away slightly to scrub the face-paint off the best she can.
“I don’t see how we can keep Sammy from accompanying you, Resmae. You are joined at the hip.” says Mr Witch.
”Aros,” Mr Light sympathises, “We need Burly here.”
Halei, Aros has recognised her friend, Zephixo's hat. It is also obvious to you that Thaco has recognised you too, although he isn’t giving that away. The Misters however, seem to be oblivious to your covert activities.
Mr Witch, growing impatient, stands. "Well, Aros, Resmae, Sammy, it seems all but one of our guests have grown reticent and indecisive. You may have to embark on your adventure without them."
Mr Light also stands. "Aros, it might be best you find something more appropriate to your task to wear. You don’t want to ruin your frock. Resmae, Sammy, gather your things. Time to get ready."
Mr Witch, addressing Halei, Balliol, Wildred and Stalker, "Well, friends, thank you for your time. If you’ve nothing more to contribute, I will ask Thaco to show you back to the carnival. Please enjoy some of the attractions. There is a lot of fun to be had."
Stalker, after careful consideration, nods. "I don't mind going and have some animal handling background. Do they have to be spiders or will another exotic substitute do? Also, more ropes, maybe anti-venom might help. Are any of these available to us? Can you tell us about what we might find about this other 'place'?"
"Well I go where my friends go,I'm with the ranger"
Wildred remains Cautious after the information he remembers about Zyblina..but he dosnt really see any other alternative but to continue down the path leading to prismeer.
Bugs likes the idea of the Burly bugbear named Burly coming with them. A little hired muscle is always useful, even if it does have its pumpkin covered head in a book. But alas, the jack-o-bugbear was not going to be joining them. But a blink dog was. And a Satyr and another Harengon. Interesting.
The tall rabbit listened to the other's comments. "A menagerie to go and fetch some more members of the menagerie. That seems reasonable. When exactly shall this expedition be getting underway? And if we are to enjoy the attractions - is there a place to rest for the evening? Assuming of course, that we leave in the morning and not tonight."
Before leaving he also asked, "You mentioned foul magics. Have there been many foul magics recently? At least one of your acts mentioned someone being whisked away to another plane. Are there other worries here?" He didn't really expect an answer, but what he had overheard before implied that the two misters might be in league with the hags who had done . . . something haggish. Maybe something useful could be learned. They had a mage, so maybe Wildred would catch something.
Aros sticks her tongue out at Mister Light and lets go of Burly's arm.
At Mister Light's suggestion that she change, Aros disappears behind a flap of the tent. She can't have been gone for more than 30 seconds before she reappears dramatically at the entrance. Her makeup is once again perfect. Her dress is gone, replaced by breeches and a stylish brown-leather jacket, cinched at the waist by her sword belt. Her glittering butterfly-wing cloak still hangs at her shoulders. It seems to somehow have been recut in a shorter, more practical style, though no less glamorous.
She saunters in and says, "Yeah yeah, foul magics, anti-venoms. Let's get a move on! We're burnin' moonlight!"
Resmae wraps her arms around Sammy with a big smile plastered on her face, and in sylvan, "We're going on an adventure!!"
When the Misters talk about the new people not joining them and that Aros, Resmae and Sammy will be going alone, her ears droop and she starts worrying how they will attempt this on their own. Luckily they eventually agree to join and Resmae's ears pop up and she jumps onto the ground. "So, when do we go?"
"Fantastic news!" yells Mr Witch with much jubilation as he claps his hands loudly. This is the first time you've seen him smile. Mr Light always looks to be smiling with that big red smile painted on his face. "Questions, questions." Mr Witch continues answering your questions as follows...
Do they have to be spiders, or will another exotic substitute do? "Yes, they have to be mygalomorphs. Their propensity to understand the performing arts makes them suited to behaving well in front of an audience."
Ropes? You can only take what you came with or earned at the carnival. What you have is what you can take.
Anti-venom? "Ha ha ha, You don't need anti-venom." laughs Mr Light. Stalker and Resmae are now unaffected by the poison after being bitten (HP from the venom has been restored. However, the physical wounds from the bite still remain).
Foul Magics? "There has been a kenku trouble maker mucking up the festivities. We suspect the spiders' misadventure, among other troubles at the carnival, is of their doing. This, however, is not your problem."
Rest? "Burning moonlight. An adventure indeed!" says Mr Light gleefully.
For Aros and Resmaes' eyes only
Please read the message on the Hands PM before continuing.
You are all escorted through the carnival. Fair-goers and carnival hands alike, adore with smiles the Misters as they parade through the carnival.
You are led to the Hall of Illusions. This large tent is painted with a mural of shifting images that show grinning faeries diving into pools of colour. The helical stripes of the tent's pointed canopies rotate in spirals, and the whole display seems designed to befuddle onlookers.
The Misters lead you inside where you are confronted with mirrors of all shapes and sizes, set out in a maze of pathways. As you enter, the mirrors reveal in your reflections your youth. You see the Misters as young shadar-kai elves. A very disorientating and befuddling experience. You continue inside. The inside of this labyrinth of reflections seems larger on the inside than the tent portrays on the outside. As you follow the Misters and scrutinise your reflections, you appear to age before your very eyes. Keeping up with the Misters becomes disorientating. You feel woozy and dizzy. Lost, dazed and confused. You hear the elves' voices leading you towards them as you glimpse yourself as old, decrepit, frail.
"Hey, hey, hey", comes the gradually increasing volume of Mr Witch's voice, and the snapping of his fingers, coaxing you back to your time and place.
You regain your senses and look around as you all stand inside a circular arrangement of mirrors of different shapes and sizes. Mirrors above you, and even on the floor. All of them with far off, hard to focus reflections of yourselves in varying states of time and age.
On a portion of the wall, peeking through the masses of mirrors, you see some unknown writing.
Mr Light steps up to a long wardrobe style mirror and angles the mirror to reflect the writing on the far wall.
"Right!", invites Mr Witch as he looks upon this ragtag team of adventurers. "Who's going first?".
"Wait, wait, we're going in there?!? I..I don't know.." Resmae looks to Aros for her reaction on the situation. She then climbs on Sammy's back to try and make herself feel more brave as she apparently has no choice and follows the rest in there. Mumbling a soft prayer to Lathander as they go.
While the mirrors wreak havoc with their minds and make them all very disoriented, Resmae starts second guessing the entire plan, worrying that this is what the whole trip might be like and isn't sure she can handle it. But when they get to the mass of mirrors, and she sees a way out of this place, she hops to her full height on Sammy and raises her paw, "I will!"
"I'll go!" Halei skirts around the group to go in the front with Resmae and Sammy. She didn't really mind leading in case some are nervous. She's doesn't seem too bothered, just excited.
Aros doesn't lose a beat of her signature jocularity, but she does take Resmae's hand. "Resmae and I oughtta go first together, to make sure things're all set up nice for the guests. Laundry's all folded, table set, toys put away..."
Only one can go at a time. Resmae and Sammy are the only ones that can go together due to their unique ‘connection’. If you can’t decide the brave one going first. Roll initiative.
At Mr. Light's revelation of their task, Aros actually takes the time to look at these strangers for the first time.
