"Right, you all seem like honest enough folk," Ulmwin says, leaning in to the young halfling. "Seems like you're on the younger side. Just a mistake, exploring what one can do in life, and needing to learn some lessons the hard way, huh?"
"What's your name? You got any friends? Family?"
Ulmwin is asking with genuine intent to learn about them, and to gauge just what could be an appropriate punishment, if any, for these folk. Whether it comes across that way may be a different question, of course.
(( Sorry about the delay in posting. The week before a holiday is always hectic.))
In Elvish:
When I'm alone, you can show me your whiskers. However I'd be interested in your town's purse as well. I'm a light touch and you've seen I can provide the spice. Perhaps an introduction?
Thieves Cant:
I'm interested in your cache, but I'm also interested in the local thieves guild. I'm not affiliated, but am a capable tracker. Perhaps an introduction?
"I can certainly show you my whiskers, if you're a barber, or... I can order you a carriage. Either way, you'll have no arrows left in your quiver."
"I can certainly show you my cache, if you're able to pick locks, or... I can make sure the boss will see you. I'll do one or the other, then we're even."

"Oh no, no, I'd never hurt a fly!" Ulmwin says, pauses for a moment, cocks his head... Then continues with his well-intentioned, but likely misguided speech.
"I'm just curious, you know. I'm still not sure I'm grasping what's going on here, but it seems like you lot were doing something dangerous! I mean, you realize there was a hydra in these parts until recently, right? You wouldn't want your poor friends and family crying over you if something unfortunate happens, right?"
The halfling and humans are still clearly taking everything the strange gnome says to be a poorly veiled threat.
Essilar allows Randy to guide him to the side, making sure not to look like he's moving off of his own volition.
In Elvish:
"I'm all ears, how do we resolve this? I get the sense the rest of your crew isn't read in on all of your... skillset. You gonna be able to square it with them?"

"The dwarves and the gnomes will probably not be a problem. We've been together through a lot. The beast hunter might be a bit more of a problem, but he's a business man. If your cache is good, I figure he'll give it a pass for a chunk of it. Besides, what I'm offering you is a chance to go more or less legit."
Essilar looks over Randy's shoulders at Ulmwin, who is currently staring down the others with his head cocked to the side and gives a bit of a shudder.
In Elvish;
"You'll be buying them off with my earnings then, rather than an introduction and referral? Or is this a let me go for my goods, and you give me a lead for a lead of your own? I still feel I'm coming out the poorer on that, but I'll hear you out on the job."

"Unfortunately, yes there is going to have to be a 'tax' to get out of this situation. Your group gave everyone a bit of start so it can't be helped. And I can't say that the job I'm offering is risk free. To start, you'll have to be willing to travel to the desert. There is a new city, founded by the dragon borne tribes at a new oasis. The tribes control a mine full of rare gems. This is a difficult time for them. They are willing to trade, but until they fully establish themselves, other nations could invade for control of the mines. They need to be able to be able to buy and sell without attracting much attention. Sounds familiar, right? Except in this case, you'd be working for the legitimate governing body of the tribes, a trade representative on their behalf. Play this right, you could wind up working as a finance minister for them. High risk, but higher reward. I could provide you a letter of introduction to them. If you play straight with them you'll do well. I would strongly advise against playing them false, though. Dragon borne have long memories and are singularly well equipped to collect if they declare a blood price is owed."
Randy shows his fire gem pendent
In Elvish:
"A sample of their work. They enchanted it with fire magic no less."
"That's a good lad."
Dornikal looks to Garvey as well and crouches down next to him.
"Ye ready to start behaving civil?"
Knowing he is not that good at being the 'bad soldier (cop)' he just stays quiet and tries to look irritated.
Garvey rolls his eyes, but nods, drool trickling out alongside the gag.

"Wha- what're you gonna do to them? Don't hurt my friends?"
The young halfling takes a half step behind Hank, who squares his shoulders and glares down at the mad gnome.

Dornikal waves he's hands at Ulmwin.
"Nah, he isn't going to hurt anyone. Right?"
Dornikal says, mostly sure of the answer.
"But maybe we can talk about this later."

In Elvish:
"If it was just me, I'd take the intro, but...."
He gestures to the rest of the party
He looks intently the elf. In Elvish :
"Do you want your scratchy gloves back?"
Randy:
"I don't think they're a good fit. Your moths have been at my trousers, I suppose I ought to find a good tailor. You gonna let me double?
"They aren't a good fit for this work. Your friends have me under duress, but I suppose I ought to cut my losses. Are you going to let me go?

Still watching him intently, Randy thinks a moment, then seems to come to a decision.
In Elvish:
"You know, a good ice source is to be treasured, as are good neighbors. There's a king of a job. But are you alone?"
Thieves Cant:
A good smuggler is useful, as is a good fence. There's a clean job available. Interested?
The elf raises his bound hands, replying to Randy.
Randy:
"I'm a captive audience, sure."

Randy gives a glancing look at his friends and then gestures to Essilar.
In Elvish:
"Let's give them some room. Time is short so it's time for plain speaking".
He guides the elf a little further away from the others so it won't be so easy to be overheard.
