"I could barely sleep. I'm nervous about learning about the magic in me. I'm glad you're coming with me, Darwin." Hamish smiles gently. then looks up, "Also, what is coffee?"
Darwin looks to Ida with bleary eyes. “Give me a few moments and I’ll be more with it. Didn’t seem to sleep that well”.
”I’m interested in seeing the Chancellor teach you about magic myself, wouldn’t miss it”, he says to Hamish attempting a smile.
”Um, what do you mean, what is coffee? Please tell me you have coffee here? Hot dark drink that gives you a bit of pep of a morning? Ring any bells?”, he says hopefully.
"We just pronounce it differently - kaffee. It can be really tasty, or really bitter. And it has something in it that gives you pep. If wait until after your discovered more about your magic before you drink any Hamish."
Darwin smiles, “Phew, that was something I got used to at the carnival, it was a life saver after a long night”.
“Are we planning to meet up here again later? We could maybe talk about our next job. I will see what the Chancellor has to offer, if anything”, he says looking to the Dwarf proprietor to see if he was making his kaffee.
Toryn nods in agreement. Best to stay on this side of the bars than to get arrested again. Especially since I was unable to be there last night. I'm in
Darwin looks to Toryn, "You are welcome to join us visiting the Chancellor, but you and I will need to give Hamish time and space with him before any talk of jobs".
"I wonder if they will let us explore the palace a bit as well"
"They would probably put you to work before they would let you explore. Remember, we were inmates just a few days ago." Ida smirks them as she begins to gather her things to leave. "Toryn, if I were you I'd go get caught up with your work. That's what I'm going to do as well, get caught up with home. The two magical ones can spend time with the Chancellor and possibly find out if he has any additional tasks he needs completed after he helps Hamish. I'll be asking around for the same with the nobles. We will need coin for whatever tomorrow brings." She gets up and motions to the barkeep to get his attention. "I'll be back here no later than 7 tonight, and I'll wait for you all to join to hear about your day."
Ida walks over to the barkeep to make sure everything is paid for and squared away before she leaves. Once he gives her the okay, she heads out the door towards home.
Darwyn shrugs as Ida explains they likely won't be let loose to explore the palace, "You are probably right Ida, but hey, you don't ask you don't get".
He waves good bye to Ida and Toryn, then finishes his breakfast quickly, "You ready Hamish, we'd best not be late?"
Hamish takes a sip of kaffee and is clearly disgusted. "People drink this? On purpose?" He coughs a little before replacing the taste with the last of his breakfast. Then wipes his hand over the back of his mouth and says, "I'm ready to go. I just hope I don't blow up any thing in the Chancellor's room ... or the Chancellor."
Alright, the two of you head to the Palace, Toryn heads back to his shop and Ida to home.
When you arrive at the palace you are shown to the Chancellor's office, right on time.
'Ah, Gentlemen, good morning.' the Chancellor says with a smile. 'Master Darwin, I can't say I'm overly surprised to see you here. Will you be joining our lesson?'
Darwin shakes his head. "I may listen in and see what I can learn, but today is all about Hamish. I'm just the moral support", he says reaching up and patting Hamish on the lower back.
He glances to see if the raven is there with a wary expression, then looks for a seat out the way.
Hamish takes a silent but shuddering breath and rasps, "I know I can't control it. My family thought I was a monster and tried to kill me. I never mean to hurt people, but when I'm scared, things happen. I caused a fire once. And killed the priest that the tried to help me. I also think I used some against the monsters you sent us to deal with, but they didn't react to my magic like they did to Darwin's."
(they did react to your magic btw, they just healed for 3 HP and they hadn't taken damage yet so 😂)
The Chancellor nods, 'Wild magic.' he says confidently. 'So, the good news is, I can teach you to use it. The bad news is, it is wild magic, full control is almost impossible. Undesired side effects may happen from time to time.' he straightens.
'Lets start simple. Your magic is probably somewhat linked to your emotions at the moment, making it all the more unpredictable. Take some deep breaths, close your eyes and clear your mind.' he gives you a moment to do so.
'Picture nothing, a blank white space. Now, picture a chair, a simple wooden chair in that space. Visualize it. Focus on it. Then open your eyes, keep picturing the chair, focus on that chair being in this room. Will that chair to exist right in front of you.'
Hamish closes his eyes and holds out his hand as he envisions the chair. The illusion wavers as he determines the details. As he opens his eyes, he looks shocked to see a chair has actually appeared in front of him. He steps forward and tries to touch it, only for his hand to pass through the back of it. "I did that?"
The Chancellor smiles, 'Indeed. It's as simple as focussing your will. You're a Sorcerer, Master Hamish, the power exists within you. If you let it, it will control you, as it has for most of your life but if you focus and exert your will over it, it will be shaped by you.' he claps suddenly.
'Onto something a little more complicated. Same thing, focussed mind and all that. Instead of a chair though, I want you to picture yourself but not the real you, the you you wish you were. Correct any physical deficiencies as you see fit, maybe add a few inches or height and bulk? Change as many things as you can, then open your eyes, keep picturing it, and will it. Since this one is harder, you may need to physically manifest that will. Choose a word, or a saying and imbue it with your will, speak it into existence. I would also do something like, pass your hand down over your face as you cast.'
The Chancellor walks to a shelf and collects a reflecting glass that he brings over to show the results.
You are casting disguise self. Burn the spell slots but also make a flat 1d20 roll to see if you must roll on the wild magic chart.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hamish again closes his eyes and whispers to himself, "Tvár." He moves his hand as if to wipe his face and suddenly his skin lights, his shoulders are broader, and his thin form fills out in a healthy way. He opens his eyes to see himself in the mirror and gasps slightly. Then he notices something and sighs. "I thought I changed my hair," he says as he wraps a lock of his ever messy black hair around a finger. As he fiddles with it, he pulls it right out of the mess on his head. He stares awkwardly at it for a moment before shoving the lock of hair into his pocket, embarrassed.

So, what are each member of the party doing?
Trying to ruin your plans to screw with us.
Toryn is following the lead of the others who seem to want to meet with the chancellor for various reasons
Darwin looks to Toryn, "You are welcome to join us visiting the Chancellor, but you and I will need to give Hamish time and space with him before any talk of jobs".

(I keep forgetting that Darwin would be shorter than Hamish, I see them both as small 😂)
The Chancellor nods 'Very well.' he smiles.
'So Hamish, how much do you know about your magic?'
The Raven sits atop it's perch, seemingly not paying attention
Hamish takes a silent but shuddering breath and rasps, "I know I can't control it. My family thought I was a monster and tried to kill me. You are casting minor illusion.
