'Friends fine.' he answers gruffly and gestures to the others. Your hands are bound behind your backs and bags placed over your heads.
Your senses are a little overwhelmed as your picked up and placed across the rump of your horses, where you are then secured, before riding away.
Some time later you are brought down and walked for a time before the hoods and bindings are removed. You find yourselves in a large cavern with a gate that is now being locked behind you.
Ida awakens shortly after arrival. Slightly slower to return is Antonius. Toryn never does.
There are several others in the pen with you. One is a Drow Elf, sat silently in the corner staring at nothing. There is a Hob Goblin who paces impatiently. A human with pale hair and tanned skin, that some of you would recognize as a native of the southern isles, watching the Hob Goblin. A Dwarf watching the Drow. A lone Kenku who appears to be meditating, and a Halfling with it's hands bound and a gag in place
Hamish sits quietly, the stillness of Toryn a bit shocking, but not an unknown feeling. Some of the other streetkids didn't make it, especially in winter. Hamish blinks away the tears that well up. He didn't think he would miss the dwarf this much, but these people were the closest he had come to family in a long time. He looks up and takes a wavering breath before whispering just loud enough to everyone in the pen, "Hello. I'm Hamish."
Darwin sits staring at Toryn's unmoving form for a little while, until he hears Hamish speak. He looks to his companion and gives him a weak smile.
He takes stock of those around him, "Anyone know what this place is? Why we are all here?", he asks with a note of anger in his voice.
How was it that no matter how much power he came by, he was still so small and helpless. He had wanted to fight back against the orcs, but knew there were too many. He wanders to the edge of the cavern to see what is to be seen through the gate.
He swiftly turns around and glares at Antonius, "You didn't listen, and this is what it got us!", he shouts pointing at Toryn. "They were waiting for us, they knew our route and the times, you were betrayed!".
"Oh, and you know what would have protected us from poison darts, a carriage you arrogant fool!", he adds then slumps to the floor, his anger spent.
Ida is not happy, and she feels the anger building. As soon as she came around, she searched for Peter's presence and found him quickly. That's the only reassuring feeling she had at this point and she is clinging to it. In taking stock of their situation, it looks somewhat bleak. Somehow she knew Toryn wasn't going to wake up, she wasn't sure how, but she knew. Losing Toryn would have upset anyone at any time, but not being able to even fight for the chance for him to survive to see another day had years forming in her eyes. She snaps the sadness away, and her head jerks up as Darwin speaks. She has fire in her eyes, but softens it upon hearing his anger and his hurt. She looks to Hamish and wants so badly to hug them both and reassure them that they will be free of this place. She finds Antonius somewhat slumped and it hits her that if he was betrayed, he's just realizing it and trying to piece his last few months together. Her empathy towards his situation is what brings her to steady her voice before speaking. She tries to speak softly.
Darwin, were you hurt? Do you have any wounds? Hamish, are you okay? Is anyone bleeding? Antonius? She moves to in between them to be able to speak to just them.
Darwin, if Antonius was betrayed, he's in shock and the anger isn't going to help bring him out of it. He may also be the reason we weren't killed on the road and left. They need him, and somehow us, so we need to better understand why. We will figure it out, and we will get home.
Hamish, we need to try to build a plan, but until we do, try very hard not to let yourself get too emotional. They don't know what you're capable of, and we don't want them to know yet. She moves to Antonius and again asks if he is hurt before sitting closely at his side to be able to whisper. Hey, look at me- we can get out of here but I need as much information as you've got on where we are and what's happening.
No one takes notice of the new comers, nor Hamish's greeting.
Antonius' eyes seem far away.
The gate opens again, manned by 2 very large Orcs. A human appears through the gate, returning to the pen from somewhere, and the gate closes behind him.
Darwin looks to Ida and takes a deep breath. “I’m angry Ida, this could have been avoided but people always think they know better than the small folk, as if we are merely children. But yes, I know I am not helping matters, just trying to deal with everything”.
As the newcomer enters he looks up, surprised to hear anyone else in this place speak. Not even his outburst drew any attention, who were these people? What was with the halfling trussed up?
”It seems we are”, he replies sulllenly, “but I’m hoping just a quick stop. What do you know of this place? Have you been here long?”.
He remembers his manners, “I’m Darwin, by the way”.
'What happened?' he asks as if just now aware of where he is. He looks at Ida, 'I'm fine, just a little woozy.' his brain seems to be catching up on the last few moments. His face contorts at Darwin.
'I'm sorry, we're you not suggesting those changes after we reached Wiesenberg? Unless I got hit on the head and are forgetting things, we haven't reached the city yet.' he snaps. 'Poison darts?' he then asks. His hand goes to his neck where he finds the dart still lodged. He plucks it from his skin with a grimace. 'Drow?' he asks.
The word causes the Dark Elf at the other end of the pen to shoot him a glance but nothing more.
The human approaches the party slowly responding to Darwin.
"It's hard to keep track of time. I feel like I've been here for anywhere between ten minutes and two years", he says jokingly.
"I don't know much; but the small amount of sleep, the back breaking labor, and the microscopic food portions tells me this is some sort of spa. Or a slave labor camp. I'm not entirely sold on one or the other."
Darwyn looks to Antonius, "Look I lost my temper a bit again, Ida is right it wasn't right to shout at you. I wanted to change route as soon as possible, and get into a carriage. I thought we could do that at that Einfallton, but we didn't stop there. But what is done is done, and Toryn paid the price".
He looks at the human, realising he was listening, but didn't feel the need to be discrete right now, especially as Ida was talking with him.
"It was orcs not drow. They said they were waiting for us, knew the lot of us would be heading north, then back south again. They were supposed to stop us. Their chief sent them to ambush us, but I don't know who told the chief of our plans".
He looks to the human and waits for him to reply to Ida, then asks, "How did you come to be here?"
Hamish nods at Ida's gentle warning about keeping calm during all of this. It would be better if the orcs didn't know, and he could use that as an advantage if things went wrong. When the human speaks, despite the bleak situation and dreary cave, Hamish can't help but giggle. He stifles a raspy laugh and tries not to let motes of light pop up around him.
Antonius looks slightly perplexed, 'This doesn't seem very Orc....' he muses looking at the dart still held between his fingers. He slips the dart into a pocket, figuring it might come in handy with some tinkering.
'We need to get as much information as we can, then we can plan an escape.' he seems to now just notice the Dwarf's unmoving form.
'Poor bugger. Must have had a bad reaction.' he notes.
'If we get out of here and back to Haukberg in one piece, considered your pay tripled.'
"Okay, okay, I'll answer your questions but you have to fill me in on all this conspiring and plotting and planning you are talking about in front of a total stranger."
"I'm Cade Gloomdagger: Adventurer Extrordinare, Masterful Poisoner, Seeker of Riches, Seducer of whoever.....I got here because I fell in a hole and now I push carts and eat boiled rats. But what they don't know is.....im the worst person to put in a cage. Never know what I'll do." *casting a menacing Glance over everyone.*
Darwin shakes his head and mutters, “These rich folk think everything can be solved by dipping their hand in their coin purse”, in response to Antonius’ comment about triple pay.
He looks up at Cade appraisingly, “That is quite the introduction, very theatrical”. He furrows his brow at the menacing look Cade was giving everyone.
“Why don’t you show the masterful poisoner that dart?”, he says to Antonius. “Maybe it is one of yours?”, he says to Cade suspiciously.
He wasn’t sure what to make of Cade, he seemed quite theatrical, but for all his bravado he was stuck in this cage and quite possibly had been for some time.
He takes a closer look at the human to see if there were signs of his having been treated poorly or starved, and also tries to work out if he was being honest.
You see that Cade's hair is long and tangled and he hasn't shaved in quite some time. His clothes are dirty and a little ragged and he looks quite slender. These all suggest he's been here some time but he could have been a vagabond before his capture making it hard to determine.
You sense no dishonesty in his words
Antonius shrugs, 'Can't hurt.' he says and offers the dart up to Cade.
Ida feels Peter staring at her intensely like he wants her to say something. In this particular situation, she can't. She can't say anything to him because no one would understand who she was talking to, and she couldn't understand what he would want to hear from the others. She was missing something and it seemed important.
Darwin watches Cade as he takes the dart and proclaims himself an assassin. He's not entirely sure he wants to associate with an assassin, but right now they need to leverage every resource they can lay their hands on.
Wandering over to the gate of the cavern, he takes a look at what and who can be seen.

A six foot tall pale blonde human sets eyes on a few new slaves with a sense of renewed hope.
"Hey.... you guys.... here for the spa?"

"Oooo, poison."
Ida looks at him and has a positive feeling. "Hi, I'm Ida. This is Hamish, and this is Antonius. What kind of labor do they have you doing?

Reaching out for the dart.
"I'm sure I can determine the nature of the poison and possibly the make of dart with my well honed assassin brain."
[medicine check 11]
Cade can identify that he has seen this particular poison before, and it in fact one that is frequently seen used by Drow.
