"Oh, I will not let him die, Handleader," says Healer Wattson, turning back and looking at his patient. "But he is going to feel pretty poorly when he wakes up and there could be permanent effects, if we do not act soon."

He then places a hand on Dora's arm and says, "Go and talk to Handleader Ull, she has the necessary authority to authorise payment. She has done so in the past."

I look at the Healer directly as he talks and nod, walking straight to the front desk, "Wilma, are you able to authorise payment for the Healer to use magic on Maclan?  It is Maclan's best chance and he was assisting me."

"Tsk, tsk," says Ull, shaking her head. "That is four Engles. The sheriff will not be pleased, but tell Healer Wattson to go ahead... After all, the driver is one of his employees."

I smile, "Thanks Wilma".

I walk quickly back to the room, "Healer Watson, Handleader Ull says go ahead with the Magick".

[OOC: Just getting ready to go into Canberra for the funeral. Will post a reply late this afternoon.]

"Good," says Wattson reaching into his satchel and pulling out a silver flask covered in esoteric symbols.

The flask's lid is heavily sealed with a red wax, which Wattson uses a small knife to cut through. He then pulls the cork free and Dora immediately smells a somewhat acrid aroma.

"Time to wake up," says Healer Wattson, lifting Maclan's head up and holding the open flask under his nose. The man's reaction is almost immediate.

Groaning, the Maclan's eyes flicker open. Wattson then says, "Quick, you need to drink this." He then proceeds to pinch the man's nose closed with his free hand and begins pouring the contents of the flask down the man's throat. 

Maclan initially looks like he is choking but then reaches up with one hand to make sure he gets every last drop of the draft. He then slumps back down and asks, "What was that?"

"Expensive," replies Healer Wattson, recorking the flask and dropping it back into his satchel. 

Dora can see that the colour is already returning to Maclan's cheeks as the potion does its magick.

I continue watching, content to observe.

Healer Wattson puts the rest of his gear into his satchel and then gets to his feet.

"That stuff is potent," he says. "It should have cleared up all his minor injuries and with a little rest he will be fine." He yawns then and adds, "And now I am going to get my payment and head off back to bed. Good night Handleader Wallus."

Wattson begins to head towards the door. At the same time, Maclan rolls onto his side and says, "That damned horse had it in for me. Why?"

"One moment Healer."

I look to Maclan "why do you say that?".

Healer Wattson stops in the doorway and turns back towards Dora with a questioning look on his face.

"He did not want to just break free," replies Maclan to Dora's question. "Damn beast wanted to hurt me."

"Maclan, hold that thought, I just need to see the Healer out."

Walk over and join Healer at the door and gesture to the hallway, once outside, speak quietly.

"Many thanks Healer, for coming at such an hour and making Maclan well. Will his recall of the accident have been affected by his injuries? Or can I rely upon it being accurate?"

Wattson frowns and then says, "In my experience, the potion should not affect his memory. However, I cannot guarantee that his recall will be accurate."

He then pats Dora on the shoulder and says, "Good night, Handleader... And good luck."

Walk back to room.

"Ho Maclan, its good to see you back with us! We were worried for a while there. What else do you remember about the accident? By the way Barne was here earlier and only left to capture Kurra."

"Damned horse should be put down," snarls Maclan. "Tried to get him to run, but the damned animal would not budge... And when I used the whip, he suddenly went wild, broke free and..."

At the memory, he winces and then says, "What happened then? Where am I now?"

"Barne and I found you unconscious amidst the cart wreck, we carried you in to the Watchhouse and called for Healer Wattson."

"I suppose I should thank you for that," Maclan says gruffly, and then his brow wrinkles in thought. "I remember you wanted me to chase someone? Who was is and why?"

"You are welcome, Healer Wattson says that the potion you took should also clear up any aches or pains you had before."

"Now run me through what you remember of the accident and anything you saw in the lane just before."

Maclan swings his feet down to the floor and sits up before replying.

"Three of you came out of the back of the Watch office... You, a man in fancy clothes and a youth. You crossed the street and knocked on the gate of one of those fancy houses... I remember speaking with the man and then someone, must have been you, started shouting about assassins. The man then shouted something about kidnappers and ran into the darkness along the street... Then you ran in front of the cart and grabbed one of my children, climbed into the cart and offered me a reward to follow the man."

He stops for a moment before adding, "And then that damned horse started acting up. You left and the horse started rearing and crashing against the cart... I do not remember much after that."

"... and could Kurra, is that the horse's name, just have taken exception to being asked to do too much?"
