“We should just leave it”Mica watches the firenewt attempt to flee down the corridor. “We have no need to chase it through these dark tunnels and the old dwarf’s map says the gauntlet lies that way.” Mica points in the direction of the door Hew was moving toward. Mica pauses and looks down at the fallen striders “Interesting creatures, the newts appear to have tamed them.” He does a quick investigation of the carcass to see if there was anything of value worth harvesting.

Mica:
Earlier (after the last combat) I believe you wanted to search the fire newts and were never given an answer. The firenewts have chain armor, scimitars and shields... but their design is not conducive to use by other humanoids. The armor is a kind of chain mesh tube that they slide their flexible bodies inside of and their shields and blades are small and light. A halfing might be comfortable wielding them but to you they look almost like children's play toys.
These large bird-lizard creatures have a thick hide that defies easy classification... it is somewhere between leather and scales. The hide of a crocodilian or a hydra is probably the closest comparison. You have no doubt this would have some trade value. It would need to be properly tanned and preserved if you were to haul it out of the jungle, but the dwarves may be willing to take it off your hands for you.
You also recognize these creatures have a gas pouch under their gizzard that gives them their ability to spit fire. One of these beasts already spit fire and has exhausted the contents of its pouch. You're confident an alchemist could find something to do with that gas if you could remove the pouch and pinch it off properly.

The tied up monsters fly into an aggressive rage at the sight of the little mammal-like bipeds in their lair. All three of the tethered beasts break free from their bindings! Two of them charge off toward Meiliand the last chases after Nalomanterys.
The badly wounded Firenewt tries to saddle up on the nearest monster. [Meilican take an AOO if she still has a reaction. Almost any hit will finish it off. So the Firenewt is either dead, or it is riding the monster next to it on the map.]

Still feeling the effects of the magic increasing his speed, Ran drops his crossbow and runs over to the striders, circling out of the reach of the first before engaging with the second (the one further to the west).
He slashes out with his longsword, hoping to cut its legs and bring it down to eye level so he can drive his other longsword into its head.
Sometimes a plan just comes together at the right time. Ranswings low, cutting the westernmost monster down at the knees and then catching it in the face with his other blade as it topples forward. The creature jerks violently but by the time Ranhas pulled his swords free, it is dead.

As he turns the corner, he sees his quarry cut down by his group and an angry strider rushing for him and him alone. The wizard skids to a halt, now looking to make a hasty retreat. He flings out a quick cantrip, "Glacio!" hoping to slow down his pursuer and reconvene with his group somewhere in the center of the forge room.
“What, there are more?” Mica looks up from the carcass of the giant strider in surprise as two more barrel down the tunnel toward the party. He rises and follows Ran as he races toward the creatures. Pulling out his hand axes he attacks the remaining strider.
Nalomanterys' icy blast hits the Giant Strider chasing him, slowing it noticeably.
Meili's shortsword pierces the last newt's fiery heart, killing it before it could mount the monster.
Hearing the sounds of combat rejoined in the nearby hall, Hew curses quietly and begins tiptoeing back toward you from the next door.
Mica connects with one of his axes, wounding but not killing the creature.

Magical healing can address some of their physical wounds, but that they require water, rest and aid beyond that which she can render. It doesn't look like they will last much longer.

Down the other tunnel, the Giant Strider lumbers after Nalomanterys, its limbs stiff and clumsy from frostbite. As he is pulling away, it sqwarks and horks up a lozenge of fire at the fleeing wizard.
The rest of you hear a fiery explosion from the outer tunnel.
Nalomanterys, please make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 11 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Ran looks around at the group once the strider’s are dead but then he takes a closer look when he hears the explosion down the corridor.
”Wizards,” Ran says.
He runs down the tunnel after the other strider, using his full movement (40’ with longstrider still in effect - not sure if that’s enough to reach the strider or not).
Nalomanterys runs down the sweltering magma tube back to the entrance of the forge. With the strider slowed from his excellently aimed ray of frost the wizard thinks he'll be able to outrun this mindless beast, until... WHAM! a gob of fire slams into his back, nearly knocking him to the ground, and instantly incinerating the section of his robe which perfectly frames his scorched backside.
Along with the sound of erupting fire, you also hear a squeal of pain echoing down the corridor, followed shortly by the incantation of a spell: "Dormio!" [spell] sleep [/sleep] 24 hp
Not staying long enough to see if his spell took hold, Nalomanterys continues east and then north into the forge room.
