Red Dead Annihilation: Campaign Thread

Ran and Mica hack, slash and stab another of the Pterafolk until it falls. 

Unfortunately, with the flourish of blades in such close quarters, one of Ran's swords got a little too close to Mica.  [For the critical miss from Ran, I need Mica to make a DEX save DC 13.  Take 9 slashing damage on a failure; half that on a success.]

The Pterafolk threatening Danica is nearly staggered by Meili's assault, but it refuses to relent.  It continues to target the Starry-Formed druid.

Wounded Pterafolk attack on Danica:

Bite:  Attack: 13 Damage: 9

Claws:  Attack: 17 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

The other surviving Pterafolk at the back of the cave continues to block the entrance to the main cavern and continues to assault Hew.

Bite:  Attack: 19 Damage: 5

Claws:  Attack: 20 Damage: 6

Hew, bloodied and furious, darts back and forth, stabbing at the Pterafolk with his rapier.  He is sweating and bleeding, sucking in breaths and coughing them out, but his feet and hand know the dance moves and he presses the attack.

On Danica's Pterafolk:  Attack: 8 Damage: 9

On Hew's Pterafolk:  Attack: 18 Damage: 10

The other two Pterafolk at the front watch as Mica and Ran cut down another defender.  "Pussh the flightlesss sscum over the precssipicsse!" one of them cries.  With help from one, the other clambers over the growing pile of corpses.  Shove: 4

[Here's how we will check this...

1. Mica, make an athletics or acrobatics check against the Shove roll above.  If Mica succeeds, we stop there.
2. If Mica fails, Ran make an athletics or acrobatics check against the Shove roll above.
   1. If Ran succeeds, he holds his ground.  In that case, Mica falls prone.
   2. If Ran fails, both Mica and Ran are pushed 5' back.
      1. In that case, Ran Make DEX save DC 12 to avoid stumbling backwards.  On a success he secures footing on the ledge outside.  On a failure, he takes a quick journey of 150'. ]

Hew finishes the Pterafolk which had been harassing Danica, and pierces the wing of the one that has been assaulting him.

 (This is getting interesting!) Mica flattens against the wall as Ran moves slashes forward, but it is not enough to avoid his blades and he takes a cut across  his forearm and curses. “Watch where you are sticking those things!”

As the remaining creatures barrel towards them, he lowers his shoulder and takes the full brunt of their charge but holds his ground.

((The math and geometry in DnD constantly boggles me and makes me wish I paid attention more in school xD ))

As soon as Meili was on her feet again, Mica's voice was heard echoing through the cave and Danica couldn't help but be relieved at the reliability of her crew. But then an unfamiliar sinister voice echoed down about pushing someone off and the sailor's stomach sunk, eyes meeting Hew's as he coughs even while cutting down another of the dino-folk. And that split second of distraction cost her, a beak coming down on her shoulder in a serrated bite that caused her to grunt in pain. She couldn't rush off with this one still taking chunks out of her and the other blocking the exit. Eyes glowing like stars, the druid slashes at the injured ptera person in front of her with her scimitar and calls out, "Hold fast!" Casting Healing Word as she speaks.

If the all-out attack from Danica and Hew did not take down the last standing pteramonster, Meili tried to add her strength to the collective blow. With little room for a proper swing kick she mostly used it to push the attacked back, so the sword could be thrust properly.

Mica holds against the barreling creatures.

Danica cleaves a wing straight off the Pterafolk, and Meili finishes it off with her sword.  Meili then hops down into the main chamber and moves closer to the entrance and the last two enemies.

Meanwhile, some of Hew's claw wounds begin to close under the healing starlight provided by Danica.

Ran nods his thanks to Mica at holding the line on these birdie folk.

"Don't be sticking your shoulder in the way of my blades and I won't cut you," Ran says to Mica with a laugh. "Now duck your head down again."

Ran lunges forward again, slashing one with one longsword and again with the other at whichever of the creatures still stands in front of them.

Action: Longsword - Attack: 16 Damage: 10  

Bonus Action: Dual Wielder Two Weapon Fighting - Longsword - Attack: 11 Damage: 7  

Will see results before deciding to use Precision Attack or not.

Superiority dice roll to add to first attack roll using Precision Attack: 4  

Round 5

Mica ducks his head again at Ran’s words and as he finishes his strikes, Mica raises back up.  He  thrusts the torch in the face of the lead beast and follows through with an upward swing into the creature's belly.

Attack: 9 Damage: 7  plus 3 colossus slayer damage. 

Both of Ran's swords connect.  This Pterafolk seems larger and hardier than the others, or perhaps it is just more desperate.  It shows no sign of backing down now.

Mica's feint with the torch works too well, as the creature evades both the torch and his axe.

Hew pauses briefly, hacking out a cough and giving a nod to Danica for the healing, then he races down the ledge, past Meili, and pulls up alongside the second Pterafolk pushing Mica.

The two surviving Pterafolk hiss with rage.  "We are ssurrounded, ssisster!"  

"Curssse thesse intruderss!  Fight our way to the sskiesss!" screams the other.

Claws:  Attack: 14 Damage: 7

Other Pterafolk attack on Hew:

Meili ran the rest of the distance to the last of pterafolk now lashing out at Hew. Dancing around the dwarf was not easy but she did her best to repeat the tried combo - kick-and-slash

Ran pivots around Mica again, the best he can to again strike at the lead stronger than usual pterafolk, trying to slash high and low on the creature before it can escape.

Danica does one more sweep of her gaze as Meili and Hew run past, making sure no other pterafolk were moving before following after them, stopping in the middle of the cavern before seeing the dinosaur people grouped up and bottle necked and she felt an itch in her fingertips to let a Thunderwave burst forth. But sound mind and tactics let her shake the urge off and instead she sheathes her scimitar and reaches back with her right hand as a whip like vine appears in her hand, cracking and stretching towards the nearest not so terrorizing folk. If she was able to hit and catch the winged foe, Danica would pull them towards her with all her might. 

Movement: 30 feet or the middle of the cavern, whichever is further back away from the bottle neck.
Action: Attack with Thorn Whip: 8, Damage: 3
Bonus Action: None.

Round 6 

Mica grunts in pain as the lead Pterafolk bites down on his shoulder, then swings his hand axe in an upward arc, attempting to disembowel the beast.  He lets out a shout as he sees Meili and Hew appear next to the trail creature. "Ran, I can see the others, let's push through this lot." 

Attack: 17 Damage: 4 plus 8 Colossus slayer damage.

A flurry of swords and axes, Ran and Mica turn their hit-and-switch tactics into a clinic, cutting down the larger Pterafolk in front of them.

The other, pulled backwards by Danica's Thorn Whip, now stands alone.  Threatened by Hew and Meili, it spreads its wings and releases a deep, ungulating howl.

Hew, looking exhausted, continues to press on with his attacks, not longer bothering or able to shout curses at the enemy.

Attack: 18 Damage: 9

Attack: 16 Damage: 11

The last Pterafolk hisses with unbridled fury.  "You sshall wear the sscarss I leave... You sshall be marked ass murderersss!"

Claws Attack on Meili: Attack: 10 Damage: 7

[Ran and Mica, if you advance into the cave, the 3 deep pile of Pterafolk bodies counts as difficult terrain.  That won't stop you from reaching the enemy... I just want you to know how deep the pile of corpses has grown.]

Meili did feel very much like a murderer but when you actually fight your victim, it gets easier. She did not stop after she got another wound  - Danica's magic kept her fit enough - and answered the claw attack with another sword-and-fist combo.
