Ro uses Greko's support to stand back up, "Thank you, Greko. You're kindness knows no bounds. I think I am ok now..."
The elf-dwarf stayed with Greko, keeping ahold of the lizardfolk's hand as if it somehow anchored his consciousness. Maintaining his distance from the cube, Ro gives Tuto a nod, "Thank you, Tuto. I understand that my actions were greatly influenced by the cube, but it made it feel like it was of my own will. I was conscious throughout the entire thing, and if not for your quick thinking I am certain that I would have obtained the cube. Truly, thank you friend. Thank you all."
Ro turns to Oten and the rest of the group, "Though we took precautions, I fear I underestimated what the cube was capable of. My apologies. I feel though that the cube may be spent; it seems to have tired. It may be premature and foolish for me to say so, but it may be a good idea to continue with the experiment. Though I understand if we wish to halt things for now..."
Rum watches the grin spread across Ro’s face as his impeded onslaught ends without success.
As the black void surrounds him and he sees the blue runic circles, his training kicks in and a mental barrier surrounds his mind like great dragon wings. He shakes off the effect and stares at Ro, waiting for what was to come.
Wisdom Save: 13+5=18 (Save)
It is then that he hears the sound of the crackling camp fire, which seems to calm Ro. The wizard falls to his knees apologising as Greko makes his way over to him, speaking conciliatory words.
His eyes never leave Ro as he walks away with Greko, and explains about the cube’s effect on him. Explaining how it is now spent.
He crosses the distance between himself and Ro in a flash, standing very close to the False Knight, his head slightly cocked as he looks down at him.
”Put the ring on”, he says sternly with teeth bared, holding out the ring Oten had crafted.
Ro takes the ring from Rum and places it on his finger. The tabaxi's skepticism and caution was completely justified and, ultimately, it relieved Ro. If the wizard ever did turn permanently, there was comfort in knowing that there were those who wouldn't let emotions stop them from doing what may be necessary.
Ro shows the ring on his finger to Rum, making clear that there was no deception to be had.
Rum narrows his eyes for a brief moment, then nods his head as he cracks a smile.
”Excellent, good to have you back, friend Ro”.
He turns to Oten, “Is it safe to proceed?”.
”Maybe with friend Tuto here close at hand should we need his powers again”, he adds wandering over to Tuto and offering a congratulatory fist bump for saving the day.
Oten's entire body is turned towards the cube at this point, his attention wholly absorbed by it. "Yes, I agree that proceeding is the correct call. Much, though not all of this, fell within my predictions, and we have made progress here in this endeavor that I fear would be lost were we to stop now and begin at another time. One useful thing that we have learned either way is that I seem to have been correct in my prediction that this entity would not be fond of my brain form. I fear that is why it targeted Ro. Thank you all for your assistance in subduing him. Thankful I am indeed that I did not have to resort to a more desperate measure."
He goes silent for a moment, concentrating on the cube, but then adds, "And Ro... It's good to have you back"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"OO!..Oooo!" Tuto cheers as it looks like his friend has came back to his senses. He looks up to Rum with his fist outstretched and accepts it, jumping up to close the height distance. And since there were going to continue on there arcane adventures, no reason they need to do it in silence. Tuto pulls out his flute and begins to play and dance. As he does, he skips about the party and surrounding area, whilst firey clones of himself does the same. They all duck and prance around legs and trees, vanishing one place, and reappearing again. Tuto keeps this act mostly in the background, hopful to not be too much of a distraction.
”How is it that you effected my mind when we clashed, friend Ro? I had to force myself to attack you, and in the end, couldn’t strike at you even though I tried”, he asks, not knowing it was Oten’s spell that protected him.
”You are quite formidable”, he adds thoughtfully.
He stays close to Ro, the purpose of his conversation equal measure intrigue and distraction.
Ro answers Rum's question, "It was no spell of my own that impeded your attacks. I don't know the full details, and at the time my mind was filled with nothing but the cube, but I think it may have been a spell on Oten's part. I believe he was trying to protect me from the cube's mental attacks, but it also shielded me from all of yours as well. A double-edged sword."
Upon receiving the tabaxi's compliment, the elf-dwarf smiles; this one being much more sincere and wholesome than the last he showed Rum. "Thank you, friend. I hold much pride in my spells. And I'm sure that if you're attacks had landed, I would've been done for."
Greko takes this moment to relay parts of a message he heard while trying to calm Ro
"Friends, this message was sent by Jek...They asked if anyone has ties to the College of Lore in the Mistytomb Hamlet. They need some help with murals of some sort....There is a guardian of the Triforce of Courage. They believe it to be a Tarrasque. A couple of the murals are smudged. One shows a blue fire lighting up the sky. The second image shows a smudged whirlpool something about Atlantis, possibly. I only heard bits and pieces due to the cube. Anyone able to help?"
A few minutes later, Oten stands up from the cube. He wraps his circuitry laden cloth around it and tucks it into a storage compartment in the steel defender latched onto his back before he begins taking down the mirrors he had set up.
"Well," he says, almost managing to sound disappointed even through his robotic monotone. "That will be all for now. It will take more time to crack, I believe. But this has not been an entirely fruitless endeavour. I do believe it will be worth studying the cub further, and I have managed to establish confidently here today that it either will not or can not try to force a connection with me the same way it did with Ro. I believe I and I alone can handle it safely, at least for now, until I know more about it. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to continue my studies while we are in transit, I am not certain if it will be safe for the organic minds in near proximity, so I will have to wait until such an a occasion should present itself as to allow me the time and space to conduct my experiments at a safe distance."
Oten walks up to Ro and looks down at him. "Has anyone determined whether there are any lingering effects from his temporary possession? If so, I say we prepare for when we resume travel on the morrow"
"I do not believe so, friend Oten. And he is wearing the ring as you suggested", Rum replies to Oten.
"Let us do as you you say then, and make haste, we can look further at the cube another time", he adds, as ever since the Great Deku Tree, he is eager to move as quickly as possible.
Day grew old and waned into night...and the bizarre blood red moon crawled to the apex of the sky...and it stayed there. Crickets called and katydids sang, whippoorwills whipped and at least once they saw St. Elmos Fire flash in the distance. An unsettling fog crawled over the fields around them, creeping long on finger-like pseudopods as it enveloped all around. A bird, perhaps a loon, called in the night...but only Greko knew for sure.
There were few refugees on the roads as they approached Lon Lon Ranch. It seemed that all of those who had fled Castle Hyrule had gone other directions in their efforts to escape. There were lights in the fog, in the direction of the Ranch. Apparently someone was still living there. Voices carried through the night air, heavy and dank as it was, and there was an edge of stress about them. Fear.
Rum holds up his hand and brings Herbs and Spice to a stop. He looks about them into the fog, his ears rotating towards the voices.
"Whoever is here, sounds afraid, fellow embers", he says. "The fog is for certain unsettling, but I wonder what else lurks in it", he adds, still scanning their surroundings.
"I suggest Lelith and I scout ahead, see what we are dealing with. What say you, fellow Embers?".
"I can hear people at work, labouring. And beyond that, some....moaning", he says a little confused.
"Ok, I will try and go ahead unseen and unheard, fellow Embers. Anyone else who thinks they can do the same are welcome to join me", he says with a smile, then slips off into the fog, hopefully being discreet.
He moves forward carefully until he can make out the source of the sounds better.
After a short time, the others hear Rum's voice from close by.
"Fellow Embers, I return", he says, warning them of his imminent arrival so they don't mistake him for a hostile. He then makes his way back to them to stand by the cart.
"The folk of Lon Lon Ranch are making barricades, expecting another attack from what I believe are the undead", he says gravely. "There were 8, possibly more people, and I saw what I can only describe as a corpse writhing about, all decayed".
He looks to the other's trying to gauge their reactions to the news. His own face betraying his disgust at the existence of such foul creatures.
"We should go and help, but they are wary, we will need to announce ourselves before appearing. Their guard is mainly focussed towards the road to the Castle, not from this side though".

Greko waits for Oten’s diagnosis while watching for a Stripe Tailed Yellow Finch
As Oten is working, Rum moves back to Ro’s side.
”How is it that you effected my mind when we clashed, friend Ro? I had to force myself to attack you, and in the end, couldn’t strike at you even though I tried”, he asks, not knowing it was Oten’s spell that protected him.

Rum gives Ro a smile of his own, a friendly one. He is very glad Ro is back to his usual self.
He shrugs when Greko mentions the Auryn message.
”Not something I know about I am afraid, friend Greko”.
