Travin opens the back door of the van and eyes the lone cop staring in disbelief, Tom. "Hawk gets ready to go hmmm?" He calls back to the driver, completely forgetting Gavin's other friend's name. "Ward! Leave thems, yeh yeh they will takes care of their own hmmm? We needs to leaves".
As Travin eyes the cop he begins walking toward him reciting something out loud that none of the others recognise,
"Well it's 9th and Hennepin and all the donuts have names that sound like prostitutes
And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky
Like a tarp thrown all over this
And the broken umbrellas like dead birds
And the steam comes out of the grill like
The whole goddamned town is ready to blow.
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs.
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
And Dutch is dead on his feet
And all the rooms they smell like diesel
And you take on the dreams of the ones who have slept here.
And I'm lost in the window
And I hide on the stairway
And I hang in the curtain
And I sleep in your hat.
And no one brings anything small into a bar around here.
They all started out with bad directions
And the girls behind the counter has a tattooed tear
One for every year he's away she said, Such a crumbling beauty.
Awe, there's Nothing wrong with her that $100 won't fix.
She has that razor sadness that only gets worse
With the clang and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by.
And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
'Till you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out over the side to anyone who'll listen.
I've seen it all,
I've seen it all through the yellow windows of the evening train...

Every few years you are going to look in their faces and know that you're still alives because you chose to walks away, chose to not go downs a road that leads you to somewheres unknown"
With Travin having finished his rant, magic weaved into every word that drips like venom from his tongue, he calmly walks away from the cop and gets in the van, shutting the door and making sure everyone is accounted for, before nodding to Hawk to get them all out of there.
Ward rolls his eyes, “Fine I guess we can get going, give me a sec.” Ward says, before running over to the still dazed cops he saved. “Hope this covers the damage to your carriage! See you later friends.” Ward says, then waves by as he runs back to the van and hops in.

Adam pokes his head out of the van, briefly hopping down, saying “Sir, I used to be in law enforcement, for our small little town. A town that doesn’t exist anymore. I understand the job you are trying to do. And now I am responsible for the sheriff and the law of the land! But anyway, what I’m trying to say is, that this is a bad day. You are having a very bad day, and you need to just forget about today. Go home to your wife, have a nice meal, make passionate love to her, and forget that today ever happened. Please. It will be better for you. Your partner walked out on you, it was so much. And I agree with her. You don’t want to call this one in, believe me. Ok Ward, Travin, Delph. Let’s hit it.” Adam climbs back into the van and hopefully they get the hell out of Dodge. Or wherever this strange “New York City” place is.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Once the shark flying thing was out of the air, Shavaris tried to understand what was going on around her. After the confrontation with the law enforcement? Is that what they were? Such a strange place.. "Delph, is this anything like the feywild? I kinda always imagined it would be crazy like this?"
After Hawk gets them going again, she shouts over the din towards Gavin, "Where are we headed?" And looking back to Ward and Delph, "What the hell happened to the pigeon?"
The cop that is listening to Travin, Tom, doesn't have time to consider the fact that his partner has just thrown her badge back in the car and walked away from the mess he's witnessing. His eyes peel away with only the utmost effort as he watches Delphinium throw the flying shark thing on top of the van, and his face begins to warp into a visage of utmost, absolute terror as the strange Junk Person approaches him. His eyes flick to Adam for a second, but he doesn't hear shit. Instead he turns and flees, running so fast into the nearest alley that his hat blows off as he goes.
"What the f&%k are you guys doing!?" Turquoise says as she turns around and confronts the warriors as they file back into the van. More sirens blare in the distance. "We have to go! What part of that don't you understand!?"
Gavin makes sure the back doors of the van are good and slammed as they speed away, taking a quick turn down another street, then another, trying to create a winding path of egress that gets them further and further from the action. They can continue to hear the sirens even as they get further and further away. It sounds like a whole army baring down on their last position.
"No more shit like that." Gavin says, looking out the glass of the van and watching as Ward cracks the coffee can to inspect the still sleeping bird. "Listen guys. And uh...Shavaris. This isn't Hyboria. We put a lot of innocent lives at risk back there. And it's not like we can just....you know...take out the whole town guard. There are hundreds of NYPD cops and they'll throw all of them at us! They can make it really hard for us to do anything. So, please...pleeeaaase. No more of that huh?"
Gavin, Blix, takes a moment to rub the bridge of his nose while he thinks.
"Okay, okay... Hawk. Just get us out of the city for a little bit. Out toward the forest, huh? We can hide there tonight and then tomorrow we'll go find a mall or something and get these guys some disguises. And I guess we can discuss...you know...what's going on. Tonight. Once we've made camp. I just need a minute."
And then Blix leans over, grabs the coffee can...and pukes in it.
Ward narrows his eyes at Gavin when he scolds him. 'How I did that, fair to disagree, but that stormtrooper needed to be dealt with, quite frankly I was worried they were dead after the first shot. I was ensuring that the creature, which I think it was. After it removed its mask it released a sleeping gas towards me, and was wrinkled and green. And I think I made a good impression on the police." Ward says with his smile returning. "We got chatting well, but he didn't know anything about the Ivo Shandor sadly. But, I think if we can showcase that we are not the threat we could make allies out of them, despite them seeming to be confused by our magics. Do they not have them here? While amazed, most peasants much less guards would be as confused as they were at our methods." Ward says, petting Pidgy and at some point trying to wrangle back his explosives from the group who grabbed them (mainly Travin).

Dageron, having finished conversing with the thrall, opens the rear door and helps has him hop out at an intersection stop. "Remember to make them secure you before you explain everything to them. Make sure they know they have less than 8 hours left to interrogate you."
He looks to the others, but mostly at Travin. "Unless this nation is just incredibly xenophobic, from the people we have passed, and the multitudes of endless murals (billboards and ads), this place only has Humans. Is that correct? I got what I could from our friend there, then, in light of Ward's revelations, sent him to surrender to the authorities here. If the troubles of our realm are set to spill into their world, they deserve a warning. If I'm correct, and there are no other races allowed in this city, our friend there should be his own proof of the incursion he needs to warn against. I ordered him to tell them everything that has happened to our realm. About the Alliance, who we are, who the enemy is. Also that he was under magical compulsion, and to bind him immediately. I hope it helps. Who knows, they may choose to aid us in our desperate war if we can vanquish this Ivo Shandor. Perhaps at least they can avoid Hyboria's fate."
"igniting a fuse that cannot be extinguished Dags, hmmm? Your plan to warn will only invite panic and leads to them huntings and killings any who are differents yeh yeh, better to burn or bury our trash" trav, somehow now sporting a black boxy hat with a little sun visor and silver shield upon it, nods toward the prisoner when he references the trash.
As Ward collects up his loose explosives from the floor and asks for any unused ones back Travin doesn't relinquish the two that he took, and tries nit to look at Ward, even as Ward bores into Travin with his eyes knowing that trav has the unaccounted for bombs.
Tracing sidles up to Gavin, and stares him down. "Gavin needs to explain some thingses, hmmm?"
It's not until Dageron brings it up that Gavin even realizes that the Stormtrooper is gone, and by that point they've gone over the bridge and are well on their way out of the city. There's not turning around.
"Well...well...I uh...guess I hope that works." He says as he listens to what Dageron intends to try and then his own brother's criticism of it. He listens to Ward's explanation of things, then shakes his head, holding his head. "Oh my god, what is going to happen? You know you guys shouldn't be here, right? And Shavaris...yeah sorry keep saying that... But that like...this isn't your world? Just be careful what you do here yeah? I can't imagine what sort of doomsday cults all this shit would stir up if people learned that you lot had come from some other world."
"Oh man, remember that movie ET?" Hawk says from the frontseat as they put the city behind them. "You guys will wind up like that alien! They'll catch you and freeze you and then we'll have to...oh wait. I don't think I'll actually be flying in a bicycle."
"Did your mom drink a lot?" Turquoise asked.
"Nah man, she just spoked a lot of pot."
The van slowly creeped down the dirt road until they found a clearing where they could pull off the road and hide beneath a couple of big oak trees. There was plenty of firewood along the ground, plenty of places to spread out and sleep. Hawk shut the van off and Gavin threw the back doors open even as Travin confronts him. Confronts him? Confronts him.
"We can camp here tonight. Just to get some heat off of us in the city. Stormtroopers and cops will all be looking for us. I..." He eyes Travin long and hard, unsure of what to say. "Sure bro. What do I need to explain? There's been a lot. Not even sure where to start I guess."
Taking a bit to get her legs under her after the wild and crazy van ride, she runs over to Gavin, and interjects, "One question before you brothers do your thing, how did you know we'd be in that concrete bunker when we were? That we would need your help?"
Ward looks through his medicines to try and find something he could help treat the shark's soreness and sighs without finding some. Ward tries to find a way to restrain it without injuring or hurting it more and gives it some pets across its back and leaves some meat rations close enough that when it wakes up, then uses some branches and druidcraft to fashion a sort of scuffed birdcage to contain Pidgy in while he listens to Gavin.

Dageron looks between Travin and Gavin, then replies, "There is already a cult here seeking to end this world as you know it. Further, even if we succeed in thwarting the immediate threat here, Hyboria has already fallen. The chances of us snatching a victory from that defeat are slim. But, there are at least two portals to your world, the one at the Labyrinth, and one at the Titan Forge. If we win here but fail there, your world will still be imperiled. Whatever inconveniences and cultural shifts you experience, they will undoubtedly benefit you when you are invaded. Some knowledge of an enemy is far better than total ignorance. If, however, we prevail, then only the inconveniences will be endured. Such is a low price considering the stakes, do you not agree?"
Shavaris turns sharply to Dageron, "Stop saying Hyboria has already fallen! You don't know that!! And even if a victory is slim, there is still the possibility and we are NOT giving up!"
Travin eyes the interaction between Shavaris and Dag, and thinks a little before interrupting, "shav is rights, hmmm? time can be ****y, yeh? Hyboria may be rough now, but dawnguard can salvage what remainses, hmmm. Here though, we haves less influence on how the leaders of this place acts, less influence on what's they do with informationses that Dawnguard lets out. We needs to be sneaky..."
-
Later when Gavin addresses Trav, he takes a moment to let the question settle, "Travin doesn't likes you being called Blix, hmmm? Blix was an evil and corrupted version of Gavin, a version creates by Travin's failure.. yeh?" He glances at Johnathan as he says this, his eyes looking for some sort of affirmation or acknowledgement.
Turning back to Gavin he asks, "what happened whens Gavin left? Travin saw a six year olds boy leave with Sarah and then this happeneds hmm? How? Why?..."
Dageron looks thoughtfully a moment at Shavaris and Travin, "I am no doomsayer, but we cannot ignore the weight of all that has already transpired, and what might still. Hyboria, in terms of warfare, has fallen. The Alliance is scattered and little more than a resistance. If we could not prevent that outcome, and the millions of lives lost due to it, what right do we have to false bravado over the fate of this world? Who are we to act as self-assured saviors, instead of admitting the very real danger these peoples are in? Even if we win, we have no idea how long it will take, and to what extent it will further pour into this world. The Alliance nations fell because they were outmaneuvered. Their weaknesses - ignorances - exploited. Why would we not freely give another realm the wisdom we have so painfully earned? Must they also lose millions for the pride of the Dawnguard? What dawn was successfully guarded? Our world is bathed in eternal darkness. Any dawn that comes from this will only shed light on the desolation of this war. That is not a badge of pride. I am not wrong to want more for this world."
"Sorry..." Gavin says to Travin when confronted about the moniker he carried home from his time in Hyboria. "It was just kind of all I had left. Well not all but...I mean I guess you understand? Blix was powerful. He was scary, and he could do things. He conquered things. You know? Of course you know, you know what Blix did. He had magic! He ruled the Labyrinth for awhile!"
His eyes flicker to Delphinium, stay there for a moment, return to his brother.
"And all that ended. And I came home. But I didn't come home when we left, you know? Does that make sense? Like, whatever year it was when we went into the Labyrinth, so long ago, that's not what year it was when I got back. It was...before that. Like...before I was born I think. But, see, whatever Jareth was doing in the Labyrinth to fix everything, it had to rewrite time on this side too. Mom and dad...."
Gavin takes a moment to reach up, wiping his eyes with a pinch of his index finger and thumb.
"...see, they knew you were gone. I'm still a little fuzzy on what happened, or how. But I guess I had just...always been here but you hadn't and they spent all this time on you...you know? Like...instead of your life turned upside down because of me...their lives were turned upside down because of you... There was no new baby. No little brother or...little sister? I don't even remember now. Just a hole where our parents had been, filled in by two zombies who paid the bills and took me to school and bought cereal and spent all their time obsessing over you. So I came home...and I was ****ed up you know? From what happened...and they had no idea. Even when I reached out to them, little six year old Gavin Tiller, needing his mom and dad...they had no idea. They could only focus on losing you. And all that crap, everything about being Blix and being powerful? Poof. Gone. No more of that, Travin. I was just a kid again. No big brother, no little brother, no parents."
Hawk and Turquoise have paused by this time, and both look uncomfortable as they listen to their friend laying out his plight. Everything else falls to the wayside as he ignores all of it while trying to explain his whole issue with coming home. It's clear Gavin hadn't intended to say all of this. His face is the conveyer. Once it had started coming out, it had just poured free, like a ruptured dam.
"Well. It's not all I have left. You know, I have this..."
He looks at Shavaris as he reaches into a pocket behind one of the van seats, and holds up one of Jareth's crystal balls.
"It kind of works here. It had been showing me the Stormtrooper fight, in the parking garage. Err, the bunker. As you call it. But it went black a day or two before. We weren't sure what time we'd need to pick you up and we were running late... It hasn't showed us much other than that. Okay, yes, it has...it showed me all this shit that's happening. But...Sarah gave it to me, a few years ago. She's had a hard time too. She said that every time she goes to the Labyrinth and comes back that things get weird. I guess a normal life after being in that place is just...out the window..."
Gavin stops speaking abruptly. His hands, having slowly started shaking during his monologue, clench and unclench. He drops the crystalline orb, letting it roll away from him...and then he begins to sob and gropes for his brother, burying his face in Travin's neck.
Travin is shellshocked, as he listens to Gavin's words he sits deathly still staring off through the windshield into the woods outside the van. He imagines what Gavin must have gone through, what his parents must have gone through, he becomes so immersed in that thought, that he forgets he exists in the here and now.
Travin's reality comes rushing back as soon as Gavin grabs at him and embraces him, Travin squeezes back and holds his brother tightly, "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." The words are a whisper as he rocks his brother back and forth as if comforting an infant. Travin's eyes remain distant and unblinking as they well up and begin streaming with tears, but he cannot formulate other words right now, "I'm sorry..."
Shavaris watches in anguish as her friend falls apart in his brother's arms. She doesn't know what to do. She has no idea how to help him. She knows they have a connection on lost family, but this was something beyond.
She turns from the scene, hoping to give the brothers some privacy and picks up the orb that he let fall. She walks a bit away from them and sees if she can hold it up to either the sunlight or the firelight (not sure what time of day it is).
Adam has been sitting and observing, listening to the discussion and mainly watching Gavin and Travin. When the crystal ball comes out, Adam’s eyes go wide. “Whoa. Is that…” He stands up and walks over with Shavaris, looking in the globe and seeing what he can see. “We need to take this back to that bastard Jareth…” he says quietly to Shavaris.

DM of AURYN: The Measure of Devotion - Escape from New York
