(Bearkiller looks at Regula)

Will you light you this chamber with your cantrip?

Regula nods at Galben and casts Light on a nearby rock.

As light illuminates the cavern, Jake can just barely make out the bottom of the crevasse - it's about 20 ft. deep and 5-10 ft. wide you would guess. You sense a faint necromantic aura from your detect magic spell and surmise this was the origin of what you had experienced outside. You would understand that the magic causes all organic matter in the crevasse to age and decompose at half the normal rate. As you peer closer, you see currently heaped at the bottom among broken and well-gnawed bones the half-eaten body of Thel Dendrar, the woodcarver of Phandalin who was murdered by the Redbrands.

Tubard senses something probing its mind, learning one of your deepest secrets and trying to discern your intentions for being in this cavern. Tubard hears a mad cackle and a gravelly whisper in his mind, "You have entered into this lair to gain access to the rooms beyond. What are you seeking? Have you brought me something to eat?" No one else can hear this.

(Galben contiunes down the left side of the tunnel, not crossing he bridge, and walks to the edge of the open cavern and pears down the tunnel)

(Perception check 8+4=12)

Jake speaks in a low voice to those near him. "Look, down there at the bottom." Jake points to the body of Thel Dendrar, woodcarver.  "It would appear that the Redbrands may be using this cave as a refuse pit, to dispose of their garbage.  We will need to do something to right the injustice of murder these Redbrands have perpetrated."

OldMan looks over the ledge and frowns. "If we have time later lets get the bodies of the ones we killed in the street and throw them down there.  Or maybe Wally would make a good sacrifice."

Looking at the group as a whole. "How much of this cave do we want to investigate?  Carp is still alone outside.  I am fine moving forward and investigating further but if you'd rather return the boy and go up to the Manor to make the Redbrands pay for all their evil deeds, I would be glad to help dole out some justice."

(Galben to the group)

"That may be best to leave. Something didn't feel right when I entered the cave."

Tubard responds in his mind "Get out of my head you monster. You must be the one they call Black Spider. I see you leave the dirty work to your puny Ruffians. I have dispatched many of them already. I hope you know that you are next." (Intimidation check 19+2=21). 

Jake nods his head OldMan and Galben.  "Trust your gut.  Let's deal with the Redbrands and return here later."

Tubard hears another mad cackle in his head. "Itsy bitsy Black Spider? I wouldn't pass over a creepy crawly dessert.  Is that something for me to eat?" Based on Tubard's experience, you are starting to get the sense that this is a creature, a monster. You suspect it's a nothic.

OldMan also then hears in his head, "Carrrrp. Delicious meat. Did you bring me some fish to eat? Pickled, sickled, and delicately..." the voice in your head trails off into gibberish.

As Galben walks further into the cavern, he perceives a monstrous creature with terrible talons and a single great eye hiding behind the stone pillar.

 OldMan tries to clear his head.  "Is anyone else hearing voices?  We are being stalked by something.  And either Carp is a part of it or he is in great danger."

Yelling toward the exit.  "Carp if you can hear me run home.  You are not safe."

Calling out into the cavern. "I can hear your cowardly whispers in my mind oh pathetic one.  Are you interested in fighting or would you rather eat?  We have access to several juicy humans that we disposed of last eve.  We could retrieve their carcasses for you to enjoy."

"This creature has been mocking me in my head as well. I say we take it to this Black Spider and show it what we're worth. As for Carp, I will have some choice words for him once we are finished."

(Galben yells to the group)

"I precieve something in here, it seems large with talens and only one eye, Ready yourselves! Should we run or fight?"

"If there's only the one then I say we attack.  One eye means this is the monster that Wally mentioned. Steel your minds and spread out."

OldMan moves out of the way for the melee fighters to get to the front and prepares to cast his spells.

(Galben runs back, stopping up against the wall next to the tunnel entrance where the party entered with his readied attack waiting.)

(Bearkiller moves into the cavern and runs across the bridge, drawing his raiper, reading an attack if aggression is made towards his party.)

Jake flings his torch in front of the group and readies his mace and shield.

OldMan hears in his head, "Delicious meat is what I crave. I can tear the flesh, rip the sinews, chew the gristle from the bones. [mad cackle] What more is there to enjoy in this life? I was here long before the Redbrands came and I'll be here after they're gone. They may feed me on occasion but if there's more to be had, I wouldn't refuse. There are many rooms above I know you'll find of interest. Grinding and gnashing and gnawing and..." the disembodied voice in your head trails off into gibberish again. 

Regula draws his sword, sensing his compatriots movement, readiness, and unease. "What exactly is going on here? Are we retreating or attacking some phantom in the night?"

As Bearkiller moves across the bridge, it collapses under his weight and he falls into the crevasse, taking 4 bludgeoning damage, and lying prone on the bottom.

"Bearkiller! Can you climb up? Do you need assistance? "

OldMan to the group, "I have rope if Bearkiller is able to climb but more importantly now is getting ready.  We are facing an evil that can talk in our mind.  It has eaten those down below."

to the nothic, "Black Spider, I feel you in my mind.  As you can see we are not weak minded like the Redbrands.  We don't have to fight.  As I said we can bring you bodies to feed on if you would like.  But you must come out so we can talk.  Even a spider comes out on it's web eventually."

OldMan readys himself for Black Spiders appearance   He looks for a rock in the cave of roughly 1-3 pounds.
