Tests and Trials Game Thread

Jaq nods at the spot Kroshav finds.   "Yeah, I think you found a good spot.  At least no flooding here."

Ernos casts his eyes about the area, nodding, "Though sparse, trees may provide cover while digging."

Whenever they begin digging, Jaq begins taking watch.   At first sight of any trouble that is not flying, he will activate his belt so that he is flying and out of any weird magics, like the yetis had.  If they decide to do a quick check of the area before digging, he will agree and will take the back rank of the search.

Ernos takes a few seconds to press his hands against his chest, muttering softly, before his clothing takes on a faint shimmer, and the cloak wrapped around him begins to look as though a heat haze is rising from it.  "I will join in keeping watch.  Tell me if you get too cold.  I can give mild relief or start a fire."

Jaq smiles at Ernos, "I will speak up if I need that.  Last time I was out here I got wet, and then the cold was just too much for me.  I don't plan on getting wet out here again."

Kroshav will walk the area and make sure it's suitably majestic. Once stratified, he'll begin excavating into the far slope, carving out blocks of stone that can be used later in the cairn.

Part of the plan is to excavate a tomb within the mountain that gives enough cover from the day that if Mikram is up for it, he can be brought here to further work within the tomb.

Kroshav clambers up and turns to look out. It looks, unfortunately, like a field of whte speckled with black.

Closing his eyes Kroshav pictures the tree line and the broad, emptiness of the Cut. He the puts Lurn's cairn before him, with all that as a backdrop, and he feels a mild, if somewhat foreign warmth through him. Yes. This will be good.

He then turns to the stone wall to begin excavation.

Ernos is keeping watch and patrolling the area.  Every so often he uses Prestidigitation a few times to warm his clothing.

Seeing that Erson and Jaq are keeping watch Cladmir would be focusing more on assisting Kroshav moving stone/rock/dirt as the dig happens.

Kroshav gets to work, at first mostly clearing snow and ice that are oddly harder to get through than the rock below them. Cladmir is on hand to push bits of rock and stone away from the space the dragonborn is working it. Kroshav manages to get a hole going but it quickly become clear it isn't very stable as bits of stone crumble in. After some trial and error Kroshav finds what must be a more solid slab of stone and gets a proper tunnel started. The none too gentle sound of stone being grinded to dust is muted by the snow all around.

As the pair work Erson stands looking out over the white expanse before him. His eyes scan nearby then continue out to the horizon, where they become fixed as he sinks into thought. His lack of focus is only helped by the warmth of the sun doing a surprisingly good job despite the coolness.

After a few hours Kroshav feels he has made himself a proper cave/tomb like space for Mikram to work in. It doesn't go in very deep, narrow for about 10' before opening up into a nice 30' space. The ceiling is pretty low, not more than Kroshav standing, but he has worked to make sure the floor slopes upwards a bit to keep water from filling it up. Overall he thinks this is a pretty solid start, the rough walls and stuff are a bit hard to fix with the gloves though maybe Mikram can do it.

After all the hard work in the cold Cladmir really wanted to get this over with, but he has no idea how Kroshav will feel about rushing through anything so he will keep his mouth shut.

Jaq continues watching and then states, "Dusk is not far off.  Mikram would prefer the dark tho, otherwise, he might not even come to the surface."

"Rather not do too much back and forth at night, if we can get it to where Mik and I, and anyone else who wants to, can stay out here fairly comfy... Might take another day?"

Ernos nods slightly, "Night will be cold and dangerous.  This would be less secure than the structure, regardless.  But I can keep watch if we act at night."

"If we can get it to where it's camp-able and defendable, we can return to the Library for supplies and to warm up. But want to be able to hold off any yeti's or trolls that might wander up. Wonder if this is too far for her to send her golems."

Cladmir will try and think hard of his cram session to see if he can recall any danger that could happen upon them in the cold AND dark.  If anything comes to mind he would list it out to his companions.

"Why do we want to camp out here if the library is just over there?"  Jaq can't comprehend why he would want to do that.

"Mm, an external tomb I understand, but we can walk here and back.  The underground is most secure."
