Yes... they are... There's a devillish spel that's much like a pact with a demon. If a monarch makes this deal, he lives forever! However he takes his subjects with him to a seperate dimension. The subjects are unable to leave... unless... unless the monarch allows them to...
Ventus pauses for a moment and stares in disbelief that Stanimir is 2,000 years old. He turns and looks at the decidedly strange landscape. This is truly a cursed land and perhaps its people as well. He continues on traveling as he listens to his companion's conversation.
"No, I wouldn't have a problem doing it in light of everything we've discussed but right now I feel like a wait and see approach might be in order and if this Oracle requests that we use said method I might start to feel more trusting."
The fog spills out of the forest to swallow up the road behind you. Ahead, jutting from the impenetrable woods on both sides of the road, are high stone buttresses looming gray in the fog. Huge iron gates hang on the stonework. Dew clings with cold tenacity to the rusted bars. Two headless statues of armed guardians flank the gate, their heads now lying among the weeds at their feet. They greet you only with silence.
Hawker scans the wall as it comes into view, expecting to see sentries atop. Then his gaze meets the statues and he stops, awestruck. He stares at the heads in silence for a moment.
"Slaying these guardians... This prince is a tyrant indeed."
"Unlike what you may think, this was not our ruler's doing. It was the town elder's choice, to prevent people from entering this place, showing that nothing protects this village from evil."
Ventus lets out a whistle when he looks up to the headless guardians. "This is quite impressive. Iwonder who carved these giants and erected such a massive wall"He continues on following the travelers.
Entering the town, Hawker's going to straighten up his back, pull back his hood, slightly lower his head, and utter some Infernal to use Thaumaturgy to turn his eyes white for a minute. He's trying to be generally imposing, not towards anyone specifically.

Arcana to see if I recall anything more about demon pacts
Arcana:9
You recall that you can end the ruler's curse by killing him.

“Well that adds another layer of complexity to all of this but at the very least if push comes to shove I know how to lift the curse on this land.”
Judging by your demeanour that probably won't be the preferred method?

Repulsed, the hummingbird flitters over to Stanimir and perches on his shoulder. “Old man, why are they headless?”

“What a lovely message, Stanimir is there a proper procedure when it comes to meeting your new oracle or something we should expect.”
Ventus lets out a whistle when he looks up to the headless guardians. "This is quite impressive. I wonder who carved these giants and erected such a massive wall" He continues on following the travelers.
"Believe it or not, it was our ruler, when they were uncorrupted and pure."

Lyger keeps an eye out, does he notice anything different as they pass the gate?
