Sasha stops her playing and gives Will a warm smile. "Thanks, that's sweet of you, I'd love some cheese Will. Not sure I have anything to trade for it though."
You stop and rest the animals and have some lunch, enjoying the pleasant weather and really taking in how beautiful this area of Faerun really is. Your hearts are filled with excitement and hope for the coming days. You feel truly free and relaxed for the first time in a long while.
Luke hops back on Brownie after relaxing and taking in the scenes, heads back to the group. "Everyone feeling refreshed? This was a nice break to relax and see the sights here"
You all saddle up and prepare the animals to return to the road. Off on the horizon you can see a little bit of darker clouds and expect in a day or two the weather may turn a bit colder. You travel about 6 more miles down the road and the hills are becoming more numerous and rough. More dirt and rock and less prairie and trees. As you come around a bend Luke notices some smoke on the side of the road about 200’ or so from your party. Hard to see what is burning from your current position.
Luke points to the smoke “Seems there’s a fire up ahead. Not sure if someone’s camping or worse. I can ride up get a better view if ya think that’s smart”
Aaron shrugs, "Probably just some people setting up camp for the night, don't you think? It is gettin' to be about that time. Maybe there's enough room for all of us. I say we all head over and introduce ourselves."
Gerty is just about to tell Luke that's a good idea when Aaron suggests they all head up. Not one to contradict for no good reason, and thinks about it for a second, "Yeah, they probably wouldn't be having a fire out in the open if they were going to try and ambush folks along the road, let's go check it out."
You keep riding and as you get closer you can see that the fire is a burning cart and there is a donkey laying dead, still attached to it. Scattered around the cart looks like some clothing bits and some pots and pans and other random stuff. A little bit off the road you can see what looks like a small chest, shattered, open and likely emptied.
"Oh, no." Sasha says as she sees the grisly scene, leaving her flock, hurrying over to check for any survivors of the apparent bandit attack. Perception: 11 She then quickly checks around for tracks to see where the bandits may have gone. Survival: 19
Luke stops several yards before the burning carriage and yells to the others who are eager to start searching "Watch where you are walking! Everyone searching in opposite directions could criss cross your footprints with those that did this...The fire is still burning, they may be laying another trap. Be careful! Man alive you need to read more books."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Good gods.. Alright, I’ll check over here! ,” Aaron climbs down from the wagon, and starts looking for drag marks in the dirt and grass to the north side of the cart.

Sasha doesn’t see any signs of survivors but find lots of large, human sized boot prints all about, heading in lots of directions. following a bit to the north the tracks disappear when they reach the rocky edges of a steep outcropping.
Would you also like a piece of cheese?
William asks Sasha as he takes a bite from his apple.

Luke let’s Brownie graze a bit, while he stays near her looking around the area.

Not that you can tell, but the grass is well grown in so it would cover previous camps.

Aaron nods, "Yup, now back to business." He climbs back up onto the wagon and waits for the others, once again following Luke's lead.

(Is it evening or later?)
the sun is still up, but hanging low in the sky. You have about 3 more miles of movement before it gets dark and the risk of exhaustion sets in.
at this point you have made 15 miles from town
